Well the singing is certainly nothing to celebrate but let's be fair, it was the Conservative government that suggested changing the lyrics to O Canada (which for the record didn't originally have the line "in all thy sons" anyway). These Liberal MPs simply sang part of the song in French and part in English choosing a French line instead of the one that contains the masculine reference in English. No one is asking for an official change.

The bigger irony of course, is that it was the Conservative party of Canada, Stephen Harper, that argued the need to change the lyrics to a gender neutral version -- the first government in history to advocate the change--see the CPC's 2010 throne speech. He quickly flip-flopped, though, when he realized how dumb an idea it was.

As for the comments regarding whether or not the anthem should be changed, it most absolutely should not. The simplest reasoning being that changing the lyrics to suit one side of the argument only disenfranchises the other. If any decision will produce mixed opinions, why change a historical piece of our country's heritage?

Everyone is entitled to their own beliefs, but it just becomes absurd when they try to extend it this far.
