  • how long u left the substrace and sand in water before u put tha plants?

  • @nickdelkis

Actually you can start planting immediately :D ~happy planting!

  • @borneosucker Thank you very much! What song is that?

  • @nickdelkis

...haha, I think it is Souvenirs D'enfance :D

  • Sorry if this is well-known, but are the leaves of Dwarf Baby Tears grown out of water a distinct "emersed form" like those in Cardinal Plant (Lobelia cardinalis)? I'm wondering this because when I first added the latter to my aquarium I had to wait for the broad dark emersed-form leaves to fall off before the small light green submersed-form ones characteristic of the plant emerged. Other plants I've tried that have two different leaves like this were Potamogeton and Alisma species. Thanks!

  • @Humilus

Yeap, most aquatic plants have somewhat different leaf form when grown emersed. Usually much more robust. And some of them also grow flowers. Good observation :D ~Cheers and have fun planting!

  • Well, if you fill your tank completely with water, the pressure on the bed will make it very difficult for roots to make its way. Also it will house a lot of anaerobic bacteria. Could you update on the progress?

  • @onu2be

Well thanks for the comment :D.......you can look at the progress from my channel.....chears

  • did you wash the dirt before you added it to the tank?

  • @d0wee1

Hi, nope, I don't wash the soil, just the sand only :D

  • Have you ever used Fluorite black sand or Eco complete planted aquarium substrate?

  • @lorez201

Nope, they are not available in my area :(...that's why I have to use alternative :D

But I think they are quite a reputable substrate for aquarium, ready made substrate, you can use it straight from the pack. Unlike the way I do, I need a layer of sand or gravel to hold the soil down...which means a little extra effort to prepare the substrate before they are ready for planting :)

  • Where did you get the Green Man soil?

  • @lorez201

From local gardening store :D....I have replied your same question with details in the other video :D

  • I have had the same idea of planting the aquarium before getting fish for it; I also like your method of using sand and soil.

  • @lorez201

Yeap, I always feel there is no rush to put in fishes into a newly setup tank, after all, getting the tank establish before putting fish in is always advisable :D....those were the days when I started with sand and soil, but later I moved on to gravel and soil, because I find that gravels are much easier to work with, and more selection of colours to work with :D

  • holy shit, thank god for the pause button.

  • @2jzdashgte

LOL, why do you need a pause button?

  • I have a 60g tank with a 28 watt light, is it underpowered? P.S. It's really bright and a T5.

  • @MriBackup

I would say it is underpowered if you plan to grow light demanding plants. What are you growing by the way? Glosso?

  • @borneosucker Thanks, ive upgraded

  • im from malaysia too .where do u buy Dwarf Hairgrass

  • @NTZY1997

Hi thanks for visiting and watching my videos :D

I will pm you a link, coz it is impossible to post a link here.

about your question regarding CO2, yeap, nowadays I use CO2 in most of my tanks. Great to meet fellow hobbyist from Malaysia, so keep in touch buddy :D

  • im from malaysia too i bought some java moss for myr 5 and i watched a few of ur vids and with advise from the shop keeper i managed to grow them on driftwood.Do u use any co2 at all?could you tell me where to buy Dwarf Hairgrass.

  • oh ok thank you. Do they sell them in large amount? because my tank is only 20 gal.

ans ur moss wall is really cool. im trying to make one ^_^

  • @tooopuffypinky

I'm not sure in your place, you have to check though :D

Here in Malaysia, I can get like half a gunny sack for MYR5, which is dirt cheap and a lot, but also dirty (contain silt and etc), so have to wash it before use :D

Post your moss wall pic or video when it's done yeah :D, would like to see how it goes :D....Cheers

  • @borneosucker

haha k. hope it dont die before i can upload the vdo

  • where do you buy your sand?

  • @tooopuffypinky

You can collect river sand or in that video, I bought use construction sand, which I bought from hardware store :D

  • @borneosucker aca con arena de construccion se secaban porque las raices no chupaban tuve que usar grava ¿? volvere a probar. buen video!!! saludos =)

  • @rorioshi

Hi, yes, nowadays I use gravel instead of sand :D......it is easier to work with gravel too.....gracias :D

  • does fluorite substrate work to achive this carpet effect with glossostigma

and what equipment do you use co2? lighting wattage?

  • @BiggDoggSoCal

Honestly this type of substrate is not available in my LFS, so I've no opportunity to try it out :(

But from what I understand, it's a mineral rich substrate, it will be an advantage for the plant.

yes initially DIY CO2 then pressurized, and lighting at 4wpg

  • do you recomend this set up with discus

  • @BiggDoggSoCal

Yeah, I think discus can do well with this plants :D

  • oh ok

  • do u have to add in a second substrate?

  • @trojanshawaii

2 substrate there.....one is the soil, another sand over the soil. the sand purpose is to keep the soil down and not floating up.

  • wow where did you get that soil from?

  • Hey :D

you can get the soil from gardening store

  • that is full with npk premix..

  • haha....I guess so :D

anyway....I do use npk to fert some of my plants :D

  • That "hong kong human" made me laugh! :D

I wondered if i could try this method with dwarf baby tears too?

If i got my substrate and light, i will give it a shot to the baby tears to see, if they are cooperative ! :D

  • Haha....I wonder why petpera called me "Hong Kong human"

    Anyway, I'm Malaysia human.....hahaha :D

Yeap...you can try this on dwarf baby tears :D

  • you are hong kong human

  • haha no, why do you think so?

  • beautiful Video..and beautiful piano music !!! luv it

  • :D Thank you for the comments

  • did you mineralize the soil first? or just put it in straight outta the bag?

  • Just put in straight out of the bag :D

  • great video keep making them , im just looking in tho this plant lol after 14 years of having aquariums.

Any way i enjoyed your video only the music is a bit hmm not my taste hehe .

    Peace

  • Hey...thanks for the comment :D

haha, about the music, it was just my random pick :).....

  • Yw :)

  • how do you chose substrate for your plants? I wanted to grow dwarf hair grass and glossotigma too. and im wondering what they need from their substrate.

  • Basically there's 2 option, you can opt for substrate specially for aquatic plants, Or you can make your own substrate like in the video. Hahaha, honestly, I never considered what the plant needs from their substrate, I just plant them the way terrestrial plants are planted....sorry mate, I'm no plant expert, I just do what is logic :D

  • btw how u switch on the light all day?

  • I use timer to control the light....during this time, I give the plant extra period of light....12hrs light, 4hrs rest, 4hrs light and 4hrs rest. so total of 16 hours light and 8 hours rest. So, it's actually automatic.....:)

  • this kind of tank cost Rm 30 in Malaysia, nearly $9 US dollar. just tank, i brought tank like this, not powerhead filter for now, i think we just need naked tank and light, i'll wait the plant grow well spread, than i will start buying filter, diy co2 and fish!

  • Yea...around that price. hehe....same idea chan, I will install the filter and CO2 later on after I'm satisfied with the plant growth :)

for now, it's just enough water and lighting

  • do you make your own aquariums?

  • haha.....no, why you ask?

  • ive never seen aquarium like te one you showed in the begining.

  • owh really?...I never knew.....haha.....what's the differences anyway? size or shape or probably something else? let me know :)

  • all of the ones that i have seen have a plastic frame along the top and bottom

  • Owh...haha....I think I've seen those kind of design, but not plastic frame, I think they use black colour aluminium frame, probably it's for reinforcement and at the same time makes the aquarium better looking :)

  • Your right but that's just to mask the ugly kit and substrate and they are from plastic indeed.

    Peace

  • haha....what you mean by that? what plastic?

  • some was saying that he never had seen a aquarium like this, with out a black plastic bar on the bottum thats made fom plastic peace

  • Owh I get you now, those that will frame up the aquarium....haha, thanks

  • LOL....that expensive arr? I thought you went to find it in the wild.....haha

  • that y i wanna ask u, how to find moss that can be plant in aquarium in wild, like waterfall area, been there few times. got nothing but hard rock! lol

  • Owh...my experience is I spotted them growing on shallow area....I'm not sure those growing out of water can be converted to aquatic moss, some day I will try it.

  • i found it, cost me rm20 about 100gram.

  • Thanks for the comment bro....by the way, hows your moss finding going on?

  • hey bro! thanks for this tips!!! really!
