@superwrench4 Fairbanks-Morse diesels were also used in US Navy YTB's,YOG's and other auxiliary vessels and they were used in the early ALCO diesel locomotives. They could run on some of the lowest grade fuels and do it reliably which was necessary considering some of the places they were used.
In Australia,Glen Innes NSW, they had a diesel powered power station and one of the Engines was WW1 MAN diesel from a German Submarine. Unfortunately it was scrapped in 1987 . An amazing piece of workmanship.
We had shitty torpedoes but no less than the Captains in the Pacific Fleet extolled the virtues of the Fairbanks Morse engines and their capability to be oversped on escapes on the surface and not one failed on a patrol. You're the one dreaming.
M.A.N. diesels also served as main propulsion units for DKM Graf Spee,DKM Lutzow (formerly Duetschland) and some other major surface units of Hitler's navy.Their range and reliability made Graf Spee a force to be reckoned with as the Royal Navy learned while chasing her all over the South Atlantic.
Fairbanks-Morse My friends. The commander of the Pacific Fleet in WW2 slammed American torpedoes but said without a doubt the FM diesels in the subs was by far the best.
Read you history, these are the engines that ran the allies ragged in WW2, fast, dependable, and well engineered, it was into the 1950,s before the rest of the world cought but with this level of quality
@MegaBartSmart You are joking I hope? Considering that the Germans actually invented the diesel engine? German engineering including Mercs, Audis, BMW's etc etc piss all over anything American and as a Brit it's hard for me to admit that the Germans are better at anything but its a fact. Can't beat German precision and safety.
