errr... she's too ... pretty. i don't think she's fierce enough to dance kitri. Her face showed no fire or passion, and her dancing didn't really either. and the music was dreadful.
It's the only thing I hate about the Paris Opéra, the music is so slow! I know that Nureyev slowed it down but I think it got slower and slower by the years. If you look at other Don Quixote of the Paris Opéra of previous years, the tempo was faster. I got to say Aurélie Dupont was very boring, no fire at all.
Is there something Aurelie doesn't do right at? XD She's GORGEOUS at every role! XD I actually LOVE her Kitri, isn't as Exagerated and Overdone as many of the Kitris i've seen, she's so elegant and soft, like Kitri should be.
I think she was great. I find lots of people tend to over do it, and whenever someone comes along with a non-over the top interpretation people shun them.
the music is heavily re-orchestrated in this staging, thats why it sounds odd. Terekhova danced to Minkus's original, whch was at the same tempo, but had more "punch" in the old orchestration.
agree there. he always did that ( slow the music down) so he can fit in his batteries and little steps. this is not so bad as his Romeo and Julliet ... there it doesn't even sound like Prokofiev anymore. he made it hard as hell and it doesn't even look good.
She's a very graceful dancer--I think she would do better in more elegant roles instead of spritzy ones like Kitri. She almost looks heavy doing these steps. She is beautiful though. I love her costume! What's that weird turning jump thing she does around the stage at the end, where she looks like a frog?
I have to agree. I was curious when I saw the name on the clip because she doesn't come to mind for this role, although she's a favorite. The pentultimate Kitri for me is Harvey, not for her technique, but the light, feisty aire she brought to her characterization. You could tell she and MB were having a ball up there, and as a result, so did the audience. Dupont is better suited to the elegant classics or cold modern pieces.

It's just a different interpretation, that's all.

I don't like the orchestra... the way they play the music sounds weird and very slow. Terekhova is much better Kitri than this one.
