  • Baby. Making. Music.

  • *Could you really ever find such a universal categorization? I apologize for the incorrect grammar.

  • What is "good" to you maybe "not good" to me, hence , "good" is not a classification.

Classification should be the same to everyone regardless of taste.

  • @Arapidos could you really ever find such a universal categorization. It seems each band is unique in it's own way. I don't believe it's right to compare bands that are in some similar, when there are so many differences that define their individuality. By doing so you bring expectations to an audience, that could deter a person from listening to good music.

  • minus the bear is perfect for a confusing day

  • awesome song, wack video.

  • silversun pickups, silversun pickups, silversun pickups, silversun pickups, silversun pickups, silversun pickups, silversun pickups, silversun pickups, silversun pickups, silversun pickups, silversun pickups, silversun pickups, silversun pickups, silversun pickups, silversun pickups, silversun pickups, silversun pickups, silversun pickups, silversun pickups, silversun pickups, silversunn pickups, silversun pickups..............

  • @MonsterCody There you go.

  • hahahahahaha......mathematical......hahahahahaha......programmed......hahahahahaha

how about: "just plain sucks" that would be a good interpretation, and I will mention the band name for all those retards who don't understand what shitty band I'm talking about, Minus the Bear ssssssuuuuuuccccccckkkkkkkkssssss!

  • @MonsterCody buddy, you do realize that the loops and delays are done live?

Are you now dissing pink floyd who uses delays just as well?

  • @MonsterCody Kid... Just shut the fuck up. I'm not arguing with you, I'm not gonna restate everything everyone else has, just shut your fucking mouth.

  • Genres ARE NEEDED, that way theres a difference between The Black Eyed Peas and The Boy Will Drown. They're just not needed if you become overly obsessed and specific with sub genres..

  • awesome lyrics

  • This Sucks!

    go listen to some, "Silversun

    Pickup"

    better than this crap!

  • @MonsterCody nah man this is just people expressing themselves in a different way, if you dont have something nice to say please dont diss, no offence intended from me

  • @MonsterCody Silversun Pickups* If you're gonna dis one band over another, at least get the name of the band right.

  • @easierplans I don’t think I mentioned a band name I just simply said, "This Sucks......." and then suggested and alternate bands name as reference.

  • @MonsterCody "I don’t think I mentioned a band name... suggested and alternate bands name" Do you see what is wrong with what you just said?

  • @easierplans no i do not see anything wrong with what i said. sounds like its bothering you alittle bit. Probably keeping you up at nite. I'll save you the suspence, "They" still suck, and Silversun-pickup is the alternate band you

    should listen too.

  • @MonsterCody I can't find a band called Silversun-Pickup though. You said that you didn't mention a band name, but then told me that you suggested an alternate band's name as a reference. By suggesting an alternate band's name as a reference, you mentioned this band's name. That band being "Silversun-Pickup," which, to my knowledge, does not exist. Even if I agree that MTB sucks, you make no sense whatsoever.

  • @easierplans First of all if you can’t do a simple search then I really can’t help u, but thankfully this explains allot about your demeanor, I guess MTB fans aren’t as smart as they think they are or am I over analysis this too but in any case, “MTB still sucks an u just have to live with it!”

  • @MonsterCody Are you older than 12 years old? Do you speak English? I found an awful lot of results for a band called "Silversun Pickups," but none called "Silversun Pickup." And I never even said I was an MTB fan. I love Silversun Pickups, which is why I bothered to respond to you in the first place when you got their name wrong. You're giving fans of Silversun Pickups a bad name.

  • Comment removed

  • You know if you wanted to genre-lize MtB, how about "Indie" or "Music" those are good genres if you ask me.

  • i am a big fan of MINUS THE BEAR...also i was really interested to hear how these guys were gonna sound when I found out Dave from the one and only legendary BOTCH was playing guitar in them! My girlfriend had a spare ticket for them tonight so im going to see them tonight.. REALLY good band.

  • The Game

    FFFFFUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUU

  • @xxxyowmaxxx sorry for your loss...

  • Fuck all you haters. This song is simplistic beauty.

  • so yea despite yew guys arguing there, this music is ill

  • THIS SONG IS FUCKING SWAG

  • he looks so young in this. i was so young when i first heard this. fffuuck, good times, good tunes.

  • this song is sick

  • Jake looks like Seth Macfarlane

  • You people need to examine why it is that you like certain music. This song is boring, frankly. It's just cookie-cutter -- from the lackluster vocals and the uneventful instrumentals to the standard structure (verse, chorus, verse, chorus, ad nauseum). I'm really struggling to see what there is to like about this particular track.

  • @ArchdukeAnderson

this is more of just a chill song, bro. check out some stuff off their first album, got some pretty sick guitar stuff.

  • @ArchdukeAnderson

There is a technical term for music such as this: minimalist. However, I would not classify Minus the Bear in that category completely, since this song is not the stereotypical song type of the group. The drums are rather technical in this song, though often much more so in other songs.

  • @ArchdukeAnderson

you obv like shit music. Minus the Bear ftw/MTB for the win/MTB ftw/Minus the bear for the win/minus the bear eff tee dubya

  • I lost the game.

  • you cant put a price on this brand of action. :D

god dang i love minus the bear.

  • but you are touchin me like keanu reaves? :p

  • @afrobrhm1 lmao like piano keys

  • Comment removed

  • @afrobrhm1 piano keys. :D

  • if you want to put minus the bear into a catergory id say something like "grind core metal punk electro western gospel" aka my favorite type of music. and other than that i wanna punch those 10 people in the face who disliked this song.

  • super funky beat at the beginning! Incredible :D

  • "Menos el Oso" The Best album, Ever!!!!

  • It's really weird seeing the previous bands of each member. Very different sounds except for Sharks Keep Moving.

  • Minus the Bear is, in my eyes, a great band...like a modern Pink Floyd.

  • Comment removed

  • this whole album is awesome

  • Math rock is what its csalled according to wiki.... cant go wrong with wiki... either way is awesomely awesome: )

  • So I was reading some of the comments on this video, and many of them seem to be arguing about how to classify Minus the Bear, or what genre they are. I'll tell you the one genre they fit in: the genre of genius. Pure genius.

  • it's impossible to do that, they pretty much come from polar opposite backgrounds of music and that's not the right description, just totally unrelated then =b

  • Minus the Bear is amazing, just amazing, love them. This song just makes me want to dance in weird ways

  • SO true!

  • Hey guys just need a little help deciphering one line in this song. "there is no mouth to trace its shape on you, but you seem to let it f*ck you anyway" what does it mean in contrast to the rest of the song? Please help and thank you!! MTB rocks!!!

  • @alyssashinkle The beauty of music is that you can make up the meaning, as long as it means something to you. To me though it makes no sense as well but so do alot of things in this world.

  • The video kind of makes me think of the game Mirror's Edge

  • in my opinion, the only time a very specific classifaction is needed for a band is when describing it to someone who hasn't heard it.

  • i agree whole-heartedly

  • very well put. i completely agree

  • in most my experiences answering the question, "what music do you listen to?" i always find it better to hand over my ipod and/or put on a few choice tracks from a few choice bands, mtb being one of 'em! =D

  • 0:35 UNINTENTIONAL AUTO TUNE!

  • I like that unintentional autotune hahahaha

  • what's with people labeling music on youtube recently? howabout we say it's "good". that's just about used as common as "Aggressive melodic prog-pop experimental math"...

hey tom what kinda music do you like?

    ohh nothing much, good music.

    sounds better than:

hey tom what kind of music do you like?

oh just Aggressive melodic prog-pop experimental math

  • s3xyb3astsixty9 you just made my day

  • great point. i concur

  • just hand 'em your ipod silly =p

  • @s3xyb3astsixty9

if i asked someone what kind of music they liked....and they said

"ohhh nothing much, good music"...i'd bitch slap them.

  • @myjunk081 i'd bitch slap them if they replied with aggressive melodic prog-pop experimental math... good music opens up conversation, as to a long ass well thought out explanation leads people to think you have no friends.

  • @myjunk081 "like"

  • @s3xyb3astsixty9 yeah right....and what's up with the rubbernecks on youtube who categorize all music as just good music???

  • @RudraNightmare it's all about not giving a fuck

  • @s3xyb3astsixty9 oh yeah. Why don't you go and hang out with that bieber kid's fans...I heard it was good music...

  • @RudraNightmare it's their opinion. i personally don't like him but i really don't care how justin bieber fans think... and i guess if you want to label music as complicated as you can, go on ahead, it's you that's being the douchebag in that situation. ps you suck at trolling.

  • @s3xyb3astsixty9 actualy I don't label music as complicated as can be. Someone asks me what kind of music I listen to I'll say band names cuz their's no more accurate ways of describing what I listen to. I never took sides here. I'm just pointing out that the point you're trying to pull with the whole whoop-da-doop about labeling music has been said a million times and should be swept under the carpet cuz it's a rubberneck's statement. As for my justin bieber remark it's just irony

  • @s3xyb3astsixty9 to many people talk about bieber to. one track minded like dogs

  • @RudraNightmare alright. here's some advice.... nobody cares. like you're trying to be a dick, and i give you an a for the effort, but you're just failing sooo bad. come on buddy, grow a pair and stop caring about the other side of the situation, that's the only way to really be a dick. now go on, be a dick to other people by not caring about their opinions or feelings!

  • @s3xyb3astsixty9 whatever man...I said my opinion and you didn't get it...I quit

  • @s3xyb3astsixty9 Maybe it sounds better, but good is a subjective label, and is basically useless. Not everyone agrees on what good music is. If someone were to tell me that they liked "Aggressive melodic prog-pop experimental math" it would give me a lot more insight into what they like than "good" does. "Good" tells me absolutely nothing.

  • @easierplans you're over thinking it. i was saying agressive melodic shit doesn't tell me much either, it just tells me that you know a lot of different ways to analyze music.

  • @s3xyb3astsixty9 If you have a genre label though, you can type that up in google and find similar bands, which would definitely give you some insight into that style of music. You can't say the same thing with a label like "good." That's the whole point of labels. They give you some frame of reference. When I listen to music though, I don't really ever focus on labels or analyzing the style, because that's not what it's about to me, but labels are hard to avoid these days.

  • @easierplans the fun in music is finding different styles that sound similar. like how blues is to punk. that's a lot easier to remember than shit i typed over a year ago.

  • @s3xyb3astsixty9 I disagree, but I get what you're saying. The fun in music to me is listening to music that I like, haha. It's got nothing to do with what style of music I'm listening to. And blues and punk are both labels. You wouldn't have been able to express that opinion if someone at some point hadn't come up with the labels "blues" and "punk." And using labels is one way that people CAN find different styles that sound similar.

  • @easierplans my point is simple lables are bettter than like 20 words to specify exactly what you want. blues and punk are more general, i don't think you do see what i'm saying.

  • @s3xyb3astsixty9 Ohh, ok, I gotcha haha. I thought you were saying that all labels were bad.

  • @s3xyb3astsixty9 id offer: hey tom what kind of music do you like?

    minus the bear!

  • If I had to lump Minus the Bear into a genre, which I wouldn't really want to do 'cause they don't exactly "fit" with any contemporary ones, I'd call them "Aggressive melodic prog-pop" lol.

If you must "genre-lize" music it's probably best to be as specific as possible.... Which defeats the purpose of a genre anyways.

Maybe genres are becoming obsolete and unnecessary? In my humble opinion it is best to disregard them. Form your own opinion as to just what the music is and what it means to you.

  • "genre-lize" hmm generalize.

"cater to popular taste to... and present to the general public"

So basically call huge differences the same and put all music to the level of Rock or Alternative since we all know bands in these genres sound nearly identical. Yeah I'm not a big fan of genres either.

  • I hate the fact that people are so concerned what genre a band is. They cant just pop in a cd blast the shit out of it and say that it was a good record. But people are worried what style it is and what section of the cd store its going to be in. afraid that it might be un alternative instead of rock . Everyone should just keep and open mind and try to find the good things in the music that they are not used to . ...Peace brothers

  • Amen

  • thanks brother

  • dude indie is a genre these days

  • experimental rock... math rock... something in there. who cares exactly what the genre is... the fact is that it is good music.

  • Comment removed

  • alternative is not a genre, it was bastardized the same way indie is today...it is a word describing music outside the mainstream a la "alternative to the mainstream"

  • Comment removed

  • I classify them under "fricken' sexy music"

  • minus the bear kinda defies genres a bit, still indie i guess altogether.

  • Comment removed

  • progressive indie, nice!

  • indie?! do you really have to use that stupid genre!

  • thats what the genre is isn't it?

  • i think the word indie is used way too often where it shouldn't be. indie stands for independent right? which means being signed to an indie label, which mtb are but that doesn't determine the sound they make? a lot of bands are on indie labels but they don't all make the same genre of music... and just to clear it up, i do love minus the bear a load so not hating on them, just that word.

  • so what genre are they, or what you refer to them?

  • math rock? i guess. i don't know. never really thought about it. i just listen.

  • yeah, thats the point...

you can find indie bands that are doing heavy metal, and others that are doing hip hop... people has just used indie as a way of saying alternative rock (i suppose that is the best way to call it)... indie is just a legal situation, not a music genre

  • Well said!

  • fuckin love this song

  • Yeah but you fuckin love anything ,you crazy bastard you ! :)

(Do you though? I have no idea?...I don't even know who you are for godssake !!!!)

  • not what i expected wen i saw this was the guitarist from botch's new band but its still good

  • Yeah my thoughts exactly, except they've been around for 6+ years so they're not exactly new

  • well by new i just meant his band after botch

  • this is as metal as it gets

sick band, ill make sure to get there album

  • @mateothebest ok, i really enjoy minus the bear. but METAL? are you friggin serious? metal? you're mental.

  • Haven't ever heard of this band before, I they're very good. Unique style for sure.

  • HELL YEAH!!!!!!!

  • this songs iz fuking fresh.i luv the beat.now this is real music..if you agree say hell yea

  • hell yeah

  • hell yea

  • i love minus the bear. so fuckin much. they are original and amazing. wow

touching me like piano keys <333

  • who are you, simon cowell?

  • rofl

  • agreed on the melody thing. minus the bear is more rhythm and harmony based. they kind of get you in an infectious groove.

not to detract from either of them though, i think the vocal styles of jake/brandon fit well with their respective bands' style.

  • that was by far the most intelligent criticism I've ever read on YouTube, and I congratulate you for that.

  • haha, yes simon only wishes he had my musical insight. I was just trying to bring a little debate into the commentary, rather than just throwing around claims on who is better. I have since beat planet of ice and menos el oso into the ground listening wise not even quite sure why we're comparing the two bands given they're distinctly different

  • Dave Knudson is a MANIAC.

    Botch. Was. Insane. Awesome.

    MtB is perfection.

  • can u consider this math rock?

  • ooo, how cutting

    lulz

  • its 1/2 drummer and 1/2 drum machine

  • sounds like donkey kong. kinda in the beginning

  • yeehaa

  • Seeing these guys at soundwave festival tomorrow. can't wait

  • omg lucky, i wanted to see them really badly.

  • You should probably keep that to yourself.

  • i love both foals and minus the bear, they are both great bands! and bloc party were great also, but this new album sucks...

  • yes!.. this guys are real..

    love it.

    works in so many ways.

  • yea you said it exactly.....minus the bear, foals and bloc party (unfortunately, none of their new stuff is too appealing...)

  • bloc partys new stuff does grow on you though, but minus the bear! their drummer is just mad, i love them!

  • you know there is a lot of music out there, there most probably is a band like bear out there, check out Communique, they sound quite like Bear.

  • boom4shot shut up u probaly dont even know good music what do you listen to some soulja boy wanna be rapper shit?

  • oasis sucks chode, these guys sound nothing like them and are 10x's better

  • London rock always sounds the same. No one sounds like minus the bear. These guys wreck cock party.

  • NEEDED me

    any good stuff

  • Maps & Atlases = Look Mexico ( i like them both ) and both sound like From Monument to Masses .

but minus the bear is way better !!!!!

  • foals is so so.

bloc party had the world on a silver platter and fuckin kele gobbledick threw it all away

    yes... battles rocks

  • thank you joshbrill foals greta nd bloc party amazingg :D oh and ;);););););););)

  • Foals? Don't bring that into this.

  • Alright guys i know there's a lot of debating going on so i'll contribute, naturally.

Minus the Bear or Maps and Atlases

    I'm undecided

  • its quite good for american music but bloc party and foals smash it. There is a hint of minimalism in this but foals is the complete end ofthat spectrum and bloc party, well theyre just bloc party.

    LOOOOOOOONDON FUCKING RULES

  • Joshbrill88, yes English music is better but Minus the Bear have been around well before The Foals. And Minus the Bear have been making 'Foals sounding' songs a good while before The Foals.

Bloc party are mint. But Minus the bear are in different league to the The Foals.

  • Words out of my mouth there like UQUEEF (lol at your name)! I like Foals, and i like their minimalistic element, but Minus The Bear are THE kiddyz! Not really that into Bloc Party Though, but each to their own :)

  • uhm those 2 aren't even comparible and if the jonas brothers are even on your brain you need to gtfo of here. PEACE.

  • if thats not some of the sickest drumming i've ever heard, then i'm just gonna stop listening to music. my god. the chops. the timing. ahhh!!!

  • check out BATTLES if you like the drumming for minus the bear.

  • BATTLES!

  • haha i love how you just pull that out I love Battles AND Minus the Bear AND Incubus is anything wrong with that? Everyone has thier own opinon

  • minus the bear is a group of some of the most talented musicians ive ever heard. the riffs fucking own...

  • this song = super chill

minus the bear = good band

    jonas brothers = lame

thats all you need to know to get by in life

  • You think the Jonas Brothers are lame!?

And that Minus the bear is awesome!?

I think I'm in love with you!

  • You gotta fall in love with me too, then...

  • i think any1 with a brain knows that the Jonas brothers are lame

  • I would also say song structure is also important - Minus The Bear really mix up ABACD/whatever the structure may be. How is it that I'm a classically trained musician/singer and yet I cannot usually remember correct musical theory terms? haha

  • Damn, best band in the world.

  • I have the EXACT same telecaster...Well model anyway lol WALMART FTW!!! LMAO

  • Yep, I'm sure Minus the Bear uses Walmart Telecasters.

  • narrr Minus The Bear have a whole lot more street cred than Foals

  • i really dont see where mtb sounds like foals.. foals is very good dance music. mtb is very good music. no arguing necessary

  • Minus the Bear>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>Foals
