Silly presumption. The government places orders to stockpile for the armed forces, not to keep you from getting it. You are free to buy ANYTHING you want. If one company won't sell to you, there are a thousand others that will. Grow your own and raise livestock, you will never be dependent on anyone.

I think alot of people here are missing the point, why is the goverment stocking up on long term food storage? Thats what you should be asking. There filling there bunkers up. Do they know something most people Dont? Just a thought.

Sure they know what is going on,Understand This there is No way they can tell the people. There job right now is to keep the world going for as long as they Can.Vision in your Mind what the people would do If Told the end of the world is a few weeks away. People running screaming stealing food, mass panic, Riots, Think about it. No person on this planet wants to Die Keep that in mind. For now enjoy what have our Family's. @bnsnid (1/2) There used tro be an organisation called The Civil Defence in the US.  You can see relics around on and in many buildings especially schools. These are triangle signs with black corners and a yellow center with CD in the center. Below was a number like 350. This indicated this building was a nuclear fallout shelter with 350 person capacity. Inside the shelter there were survival supplies. When the Civil Defence was disbanded with the creation of FEMA by Carter.

@bnsnid (2/2) Following Katrina FEMA received a ton of heat for not maintianing caches of survival supplies as the old CD did. FEMA did not have any method to rapidly insert survival supplies such as helo tranportable cargo containers. In response to this, FEMA has been building up rapidly transportable emergency supply stores using the volume of people at the Superdome as a baseline. No massive conspiracy just lack of communication that conspiracy theorists would not believe anyway.

@bnsnid (additional) The govenment for decades has been buying billions of tons of food called crop surplus to stabilize crop prices. There is no secret to this but it, insert sarcasm, is really a scam by the globalist Rockefeller NWO Black Helocopter flying Illuminati, sarcasm off, to fool you into thinking the government is not buying crop surpluses. Lest we forget the millions of MREs purchased by the government and HDRs.

@Robbob9933 crop surplus doesnt concern me, i know about that. But they are buying large amounts of freeze dried foods for there bunkers. Preppers couldnt buy much there for a while because the wholesellers said the goverment had contracts with them and was buying large amounts.

@bnsnid Did you understand my two part comment? There has never been a secret. FEMA put out an RFP for large quantities for freeze dried food and Mountain House and other responded and got contracts. If you are concerned for an immediate need lasting up to 5 years, go with regular canned foods. The "Best if used by XXXX" is a marketing ploy. This is NOT an expiration date. If you want eggs, powdered eggs taste better than MH, use a tad more water and let set a tad longer.

"the Government" is not a "body" to freely feed with "our" food . This is an unfair and rude Government. (american at least) The people deserve access to all of this food at the fair market value. If the Government won't give it up willingly I say raid them & take the stash. POWER TO THE PEOPLE!

@PolarDenMother The government gives an ungodly ammount of food away for free, well not really free but rather at tax payer expense. By the way, why are you here anyway? By using terms like "deserve", you are professing you have an entitlement to something. The whole idea of prepping is about self sufficiency and self reliance. FEMA is using these purchases to mimic the old Civil Defense Shelter stores, the law that created FEMA required them to do so. After Katrina they decided to do so.

I had trouble watching this show the other day.. It was so obvious that Cnbc wasnt worried about any facts, just discrediting anything about 2012. Also doing its best to try to make anyone involved in the thought of 2012 a loon or money hungry con artist.... Not a crazed 2012 fan but I just hate it when there is obvious bias in any subject.
