  • the film is very good.

and contains one of the best asses in the history of cinema:

Cate Blanchett, near the beginning of the story. watch it.

  • How did I possibly miss this film for 10 whole years? I have always wanted to live in a place like that. What a beautifully shot film in a breathtaking location.

  • Cate blanchet is a hot slut

  • See what some of you don't understand is that this movie does not exactly depict the book...no movie is exactly like any book...but the dreary foggy days suddenly become beautiful and extraordinary in their own way..this man finds love and life again through hard work and new relationships develop...he becomes his own person...it is a beautiful book. Depressing at first, then it gets better...that's the point lol.

  • the little girl who plays his little daughter, Bunny, is actually played by triplets. they don't even act anymore due to drama I'm guessing? but They went to my high school and I became close to them because they were involved in band with me. they graduated in 2011(:

  • , but ending was to hapy, something was not write for a drama, I dont want to say it was bad movie, it was good, awesome landspapes, but there shood be more darker sicret into family, somethimg more where is no solution of it .....fog, solitude , true love and broken man can live again

  • @Norlandsson When the author, Annie Proulx, was writing the novel she said that it had no happy ending but merely an ending without misery. The novel clearly defines as that but in the movie it was not as well "recieved" as the novel.

  • The Shipping News - well a weirdo guy sleeps whit a woman(I shood say slut), she are pregnet, after daughter are older she died (woman), and mans aunt comes and they go beck to roots from NY to New Found Land

In beggining I thought its be psyholigicaly more harder to watch, but it wasnt there was something missing, there was tragic beggining of story and family(even there tragic begining till viking ships discovere Vinland) ,

  • I dunno how good natured and warm and whatever Newfoundlanders are, but this movie is fucked up. Like... SERIOUSLY FUCKED UP! I'm sorry but I cannot see how anybody likes this film.

  • This movie defines depression. I hate it. I absolutely hate it.

  • lard tunderin' jaysus byes, dis is one dull fuckin' movie.

  • @krankedupalways hahaha

  • @krankedupalways The reason you found this movie dull is because you have no heart, you have no patience, you have no depth. I guess that's obvious from your youtube name. What a moving and beautiful story and the acting is excellent. It's people like you that keeps Hollywood churning out the cliche movies. Sure this movie has slow and depressing parts, but doesn't everyone's life have slow parts? You see, shallow and superficial people like shallow and superficial movies. Dime a dozen.

  • I thought Quoyle was supposed to be self concious of his chin? It looks like a good movie but I loved the fact that in the book he was such an anit-hero. Chubby, large chinned Quoyle.

  • Kk this motivates me to read the book (still hate pre collage englisg....)

  • i read the book, and jack looks the exact same as i imagined him! but for some reason i thought quoyle would be chubbier..

  • suprisingly all star cast!! I love cate!!!

  • I would like to watch this movie with closed captions. CC. Only. Otherwise I will blinded by the stunning visuals and and all the Hollywood acting.

The novel ( screenplay) is moreimportant than the film.

    Dr John

    Bangkok

  • I enjoyed the movie although I can only describe it as queer as fuck. Where in hell do the writers of this type of movie come up with this stuff? Spacey gives another great performance in a movie that is long and goes nowhere but you were glad to ride along.

  • th1s m0vie - can be seen online for free j @ MOOV ZON . COM search the above link on google

  • rofl the aunt is the James Bond woman

  • @Midgetrage she is Judi Dench, not just the "james bond woman"

  • I live in Florida but Nova Scotia is like a 2nd home to me. I've yet to go to Newfoundland. I have a home in Nova Scotia and grew up in the summers there.

  • how many daughters does he have because I distinctly remember him having two daughters in the book but I can't tell from the trailer?

  • @crazyrainbowlover

There is only one daughter in the movie.

  • @crazyrainbowlover There is only one daughter in the movie, Bunny, but she is played by triplets, to stay within the laws regarding child labor.

  • @crazyrainbowlover

    Petal sold one

  • @crazyrainbowlover

    Petal sold one

  • i mean Katherine Moenning :)

  • Jeah! Kate!!! I love You!!! (L)

  • I live in Nova Scotia, and a little bit of this movie was filmed like 35 minutes away from my house. I was pretty young and didn't really think much of it.

But I did not realize that it was like a major project of any kind, I have never seen the movie, and honestly did not know that Kevin Spacey was in it. If I had known at the time, I would have gone a tried to meet him or something :P

  • I love Nova Scotia!!!!!!! I go there every summer:D where abouts are you from? I go to Port L'Hebert- it's near liverpool. Idlk it's very tiny:p

I also go visit my cousin in Halifax:)

  • I'm from St. Margaret's Bay, it's beautiful.

About 20 minutes west of Halifax :)

  • i don't find the trailer does justice to the movie at all! i remember seeing it when the movie first came out and i thought it was going to be rubbish.. but i completely fell in love with it once i saw it. the music, acting and story are incredible. it's a story with a very mystical quality to it.. absolutely beautiful.

  • Quoyle is supposed to be FAT

  • Some Years ago, I ran in this movie "by accident". Out of a sudden mood I sat down in the cinema and it was totally worth it: Great actors/story, impressive heartfelt music, and amazing landscape pictures. An absolute highlight!

  • The book reads beautifully. I've never seen the movie, hopefully it holds it's ground.

  • this is the one movie that made me feel like, no end is too low, and no start is too humble... I love it, and will love it for the rest of my life, and will always tell people about how good it is... btw, did I say i want to go live in NewFoundland?

  • @NateGreyCR eh, book's better

  • I didn't see this movie, I saw just few scenes...I would like to know who's that actor who rape that little girl on the lake.

  • I never knew they made a film of this. The book was excellent

  • I've lived in Newfoundland all my life and its nice to see that people actually know we are on the map.

  • i wanna watch it lol it looks interesting

  • The Movie Is Excellent. This is one of my favorite movies from Kevin Spacey.

  • I agree; while I am may be not a big fan of drama movies, this one has an incredible atmosphere that swallows the viewer from the first moments. Once you start watching it, you are in :) and it's impossible to get away. In short: great, interesting and not too easy picture.

  • You guys have to read the book, you get soooo much more. The film hardly holds a candle to it!

  • the character look nothing like described and only one daughter im only half way through book and i can already see holes in this movie

  • I am Canadian and we are known for being warm, friendly people. But the absolute friendliest, kindest, salt of the earth people, anywhere on this planet, are Newfoundlanders. Yeah we have our Newfie jokes, but every Canadian also feels a sense of pride because of the goodness of the people who live in this province. No finer people alive.

  • Respect from your neighbor to the south.

  • That's very nice...ty!

  • Me and my old man have made two trips to Nova Scotia...we're hoping to get to Newfoundland and Labrador one of these days.

  • Right on! I am in Nova Scotia right now. Never been to Nfld myself but I have friends there and one day I want to check it out also. How south are you anyway? I am heading back there soon, spent half my life here and half there and now it's time to go there again. :)

  • Go all the way to the top of Cape Breton and spend the night in Meat Cove at the campground on the cliff. Million-dollar views.

I'm in NY for the summer...I work in FL during the rest of the year.

  • @no1zgrl4eva - I live in Vermont, and in the past 15 years have made 4 trips to NFLD, each for more than a month....long story. But two things were, and always are apparent: The coastline of NFLD is non-stop and unutterably spectacular, and the people were unfailingly outgoing and good natured. It would be a dream that the people of the United States could be as can-do, cooperative, and gracious.

  • @no1zgrl4eva

    dear ???

i wrote your letter above and ofcourse you are friendly people but..... the newfoundlander dogs are most friendly, nices, kindly, the best, faitfull etc etc creatures on the whole planet. my dog BORIS was my biggest and beloved friend. 4 years ago he died and i missed him every day!

i,m from holland and excuses for the mistakes i write, my englisch is not so good.

i have my dog 11 years, 8 months and 1 day, he was black and 74 kg.

so, i like to tell you this...

  • Cuit movie with great actors - Kevin Spacey, Julianne Moore, Judi Dench

  • I love this movie but where is Sunshine? She was so cute in the book.

  • i don't find the trailer does justice to the movie..

  • OMG THAT WAS SHANE <333

  • Oh man my english teacher gave us this book to read over winter break. I had no idea it was a movie. Looks like I could just watch the movie. :D

  • Im from Newfoundland, and its a suprise to see Kate Moennig in this movie.. lol probably the only reason i'll watch it, XD

  • One of the reasons I love this movie is because it showed a side of Kevin Spacey that was very unexpected. A totally different performance to any i'd seen from him before...

Julianne Moore, Judi Dench and Cate Blanchett are, ofcourse, great aswell!

    Just a sweet, uplifting film.

  • What a beautiful movie. This is why we love Kevin Spacey. A rich cultural texture hidden inside simple surroundings. Who couldn't fall in love with Julianne Moore in this story?

The climate is severe & and weather may be deadly at times, but I think that these people here are more deeply happy with their lives than most anybody you'll find in New York or London. If I ever find a tiny little town like this to fit in to, I'll never leave.

  • it is a great book, also "POSTCARDS" by E.ANNIE PROULX.

  • it is indeed a nice movie.

  • read the book first

  • The girls who play Bunny are triplets they went to my elementary and middle school, and go to a high school in my district. They're really nice girls, but some people have inner jealousy or something and say they're mean...

  • This movie is abit wishy washy, some of it is good and funny ans some of it abit pants, some solid performances. Worth a look tho. Just wasn't screwed togeather right. Could have been great.

  • forget about the movie. the soundtrack is ok, but the rest is crap. go and get the book!

  • judi dench gve the performance of her career cnt belive she didnt win.

  • I adore the scene when some old journalist explains to Spacey how to make news!:-) I love this film becuase every little man after seeing it understands that he can change his life for the better. The same is true of American Beauty.

  • I liked this movie. why it got bad reviews...

  • Beautiful movie, great performance by Spacey :D

  • Probably the best movie I've ever seen.

  • This movie is brilliant. one of the best ive ever seen
