I have a basic airbrush set with canned-air. I'm new to airbrushing with my fursuits and I've purchased Golden brand acrylic paints and Golden brand acrylic paint thinner for fabric airbrushing. are these the right things to use? Or should I do my airbrushing with Rit dyes instead of thinned paints?
I made my friend a picture of a white tiger with a violet nose and violet eyes. So i was wondering if you would agree if to make a partial for her! She had the same color pawpads too. Her toes and fingers are also violet. just think about it
She made the head herself. If you would like to try to make one of your own, you can buy upholstery foam, synthetic fur, a hot glue gun, glue sticks, and acrylic or plastic orbs for the eyes.
I’m a complete armature and I’ve already made two wearable heads from these materials (mine come out more cartoony than photo realistic.)
Hey Beetlecat- I was wondering what brand of airbrush you like to use. I'm in the process of building my own fursuit and would like to do a considerable amount of fur trimming and airbrushing to get a finished effect. I'm just trying to get started but would love to hear the opinion of a professional fursuit builder on what airbrush brand and its inks and paints are most appropriate for this type of project. Any help is greatly appreciated. :)
Hi, i have an airbrush tool in my house, i have to find something for the pressured air but - what type of paint can i use that wont clump, melt or reck fauxfur? - thank you ^_^
i dont have an airbrush and ive seen some of ur vids before i noticed you paint the stripes by hand, i want to make a lioness would i be able to add the spots and lighter areas on her belly, chin, eyes etc by hand easily? plz reply thnx!
wat did u make the nose out of or did u buy it like that? and how do u atatch it to the mask? im going to b making my own fur suit for the first time and i really like the way that nose looks.
I was wondering, where did you order you Airbrushing kit from? I've searched all over different kinds of sites to find one, and yours seems to work very well.
ps.. please respond, I have had no luck with others, and I'm a little desperate
I was wondering...I'll be painting my own fursuit head (a snow leopard) soon , and I can't seem to find a decently priced air brushing kit. Where did you get yours from? The ones I find online are very inconsistently priced, and I can't find a good base line price.
im so confused on how you make this.....im not a furry and dont plan to be but its wierd......how to you start out?like to you grap cardbord and make it round like a head or do you use something else?like how do you get or make the eyes?how to you make the teeth and get the fur?how would you put the fur on?im not so sure how you make the rest of it either....about how long does a furry suit take?
well this must be way better than using spray paint....i experamented with black spray paint the more you have on the tail the crustyer it feels D: bad experament
If you wouldn't mind me asking, specifically what kind of paint are you using for this? Planning on airbrushing aswell, but not quite sure what to use. Wouldn't want to be halfway into this project and screw it up xDD. I'm not the very patient type.
its REDICULOUS these cost so much. I KNOW they didnt cost that much to make. I dont care how long they fucking took to make either. A week? GOOD FOR YOU. it takes the long to knit a scarf. I dont charge that for 1000 FUCKING DOLLARS, DO I? NO.
@Tortchclaw well have you ever bought resin? foam? do you know how much these cost? They arent cheap. plus the basic math of how long it took at lets just say min wage would put it well into the hundreds. but most figure more then min wage cause well this take more talent then flipping burgers. This isnt even factoring in things like paint, health hazards and saftey equipment if the mask is resin. Resin casting isnt exactly safe.
please can you tell me everything I need to have to paintbrush and where to buy it?? I have searched in alot of time. but it's a little hard to find anything when I dont know what to search for... well I have found some airbrushes at amazon.com, but I can't get further than that... please please help me ;_;
umm im new to fursuit making and hopefully u can help me cuz im completely lost ive asked many ppl and no one has responded, umm... where can u buy an airbrush like that and how much is the avergae price. please help me... plese
@Fraxture Sorry for not being them, but I think it's done because the Fur would dry up with Paint, and it gives it more of a realistic touch. And it must be easier to Blend. ^^
Is it best to airbrush with a lot of air or more weak? And I thought you had to brush more in between the fur to get an even colour?
Do you know if there is any difference between color used and washing?
sorry for all the questions but...
One more!
I am going to create a fursuit that's white.. Its quite plain, but do you think it will be good to airbrush grey/darker parts between the fur, or will it only look dirty?
@stenseng 1. Depending on the fur type/ what you want your fur to look like, you should use both. That is for if you are trying to make it even, or if you're trying to add a pattern.
2. Not sure.
3. If you're doing an 'average' pattern (Such as Tiger stripes or Lepord spots), it wouldn't look dirty, nor would something like it. But if you are going to add light spots, it would look dirty.
a bangle tiger aye i can tell from the pots on the ears. i wish i could air bush. im making my own tail and ears achaly furst time ive tryed doing any fur suitage. i would love to have a full suit but so expensive.. i realy should get one priced for me just to know
Man, I might try doing this rather than messing with different colors of fur. My sona's way too complicated to try and sew everything on, if only because of her spots ^_^"
About how much paint would you say you go through doing something like this?
I really want an airbrush set for xmas. It gives a suit a much more blended look to the fur and markings. More realistic. you know. Your SO handy with one.
I'd probably keep making mistakes!
were did you get it?
anway the head looks wonderful, but with your skills Imnot at all surprised!
I kindof like it white too! I'd love to someday see a white lion suit. That was what I originally wanted to make, before I changed my mind and started working on the YETTEH!
Beetle NEVER responds to comments unless they're business related, and even then she rarely answers... Trust me, I know. But goodnesss I wonder how much this cost. Moving jaw rig and all... I would guess about $800-$1000?? What do you think.

about ohw much is an airbrush set?.im making my first furry costume and i want to airbrush it so i can blend colors.. ill be using black and neon blue pain it i use an airbrush
GREAT job Beetle the paint is commin' along swimmingly! Out of curiosity, what is the song in this video called? If you tell me you created it aswell I undoubtedly propose to you! LMFAOOOO <333
i wouldnt recommend making them, alot of work and and pain, i have soo manny injuries inflicted by making a base, i almost got 3rd degree burns from my hot glue gun, i'd save the money and buy it
wow you baby i never even made a fursuit but i got burned by a hot glue gun before and its no where near 3rd degree burns it goes away over night gust try not to cut yourself with the exactoknife then you have a problem
Real hair is useful (using horse hair for a wefted costume mane or costume tail for example) but no one uses real fur because it just does not wear well or look as good as fake fur.
Quality of the fur? The fur doesn't change, but the paint will make it less soft. With little paint it doesn't make an obvious difference but with lots of paint it will feel noticeably coarser.
After it's properly cured, you can wash it with little change. But the more you wash it (especially if you scrub it with harsh soaps) then the more faded it will become.
Research methods and materials as they vary greatly. Mine are just one way to do things and I do every mask differently. The fursuit Livejournal is a good place to start.
I have some questions, I'm beginning my suiting hobby and I need some tips form the pros, How much did you pay for an airbrush like that, how fast does the paint dry, and do you need a certain amount of skill to use it to achieve proper effect? How durable is the mask, can it take falls and frequent use? And towards the end of the video what was on the towel, if anything, that you were using?
I used a slicker brush you can buy at a pet store. A hairbrush is not good enough as you need something that gets right into the fur and stops the fur from lumping as it dries.
I've been considering commissioning a tiger fursuit. Although I've always been curious to see what one might look like in a semi realistic style in actuality. This gives me hope!
I have a basic airbrush set with canned-air. I'm new to airbrushing with my fursuits and I've purchased Golden brand acrylic paints and Golden brand acrylic paint thinner for fabric airbrushing. are these the right things to use? uuummm i feel kinda stupid for asking this, but do most fursuiters use real animal fur for their fursuits, or is it fo-fur?
nascarboy575 3 years ago
Real hair is useful (using horse hair for a wefted costume mane or costume tail for example) but no one uses real fur because it just does not wear well or look as good as fake fur.

This is such a beautiful mask! Just wondering, what kind of paint are you using?

Does this affect the quality of the fur as it dries? And can you wash the fur afterwards after use, without the color coming out?
KumaniCat 3 years ago
Quality of the fur? The fur doesn't change, but the paint will make it less soft. With little paint it doesn't make an obvious difference but with lots of paint it will feel noticeably coarser.
After it's properly cured, you can wash it with little change. But the more you wash it (especially if you scrub it with harsh soaps) then the more faded it will become.

$50. quickly. yes. yes. soap and water.

Nice work! how much does one of those air bruses cost?
mightybalto1925 3 years ago
What kind of brush did you use?
Could I just use any regular old hairbrush?
Arichelic 3 years ago
I used a slicker brush you can buy at a pet store. A hairbrush is not good enough as you need something that gets right into the fur and stops the fur from lumping as it dries.
Beetle91 3 years ago
Ah, okay then. Thanks!

That's a beautiful tiger head!
I've been considering commissioning a tiger fursuit. Although I've always been curious to see what one might look like in a semi realistic style in actuality. This gives me hope!
