  • He didnt say anything about having your pets spayed or nueterd

  • A Gremlin? Man, they hated their contestants back then almost as much as they did in the early 2000's, where every other car they gave away was a Chevy Cavalier.

  • Bye for Mary catchin the holy ghost!!!!

  • 25" She's got herself a big screen from the 70's.

  • Mary was about ready to have a stroke...

  • She will be burning down the highway in her new Ford Pinto..its Hot, Hot, Hot!

  • Jonny Olson.

    Rod Roddy.

    R.I.P.

  • screw the car...i wish i had that awesome tea set

  • Like really I almost forgot that Family Fued theme like cue..... How I loved the 1970's-1996 price is right.

  • The kid's bedroom set is a lot nicer than the adult's

  • I LOVE TPIR!

I relish the memories and feelings this show

    brings me!

  • wow my grandmother has that bedroom furniture (the white furniture)...it belonged to my mom's stepsister (who was 13 in '75, lol)

  • 1:30-1:37 - Mary mustive drank Gummi Berry Juice (A drink used on Disney's The Adventures of the Gummi Bears TV Show)

  • would have been cool if she started making that bouncing noise!

  • A V-8 Gremlin...what I have always wanted--NOT!!! I would have deliberately tried to win the tea set!

  • what an ugly car

  • I wish I could buy a new car for four digits where the first digit is a $3___.

  • @gtey Me too. Or even a decent used car.

  • Worst cars you could ever have on a show. I'll gladly trade in exchange for the cash value of the car.

  • Not to worry - the Pinto probably caught fire somewhere not long afterward and was junked, and the AMC was probably sold for scrap iron at some point in its "life."

  • Why can't they show old TPIR episodes on Game Show Network?

  • Mainly because of copyright laws thanks to the hard-ass company named Fremantle...

  • Was this episode closed captioned when CBS reran it?

  • wow a v-8 engine!

  • MARY SPAZZED OUT!!!!!

  • The 1975 Ford Pinto... They're trying to kill that poor lady lol

  • @OnTheRun167: Well, as they used to say in the 1970s, Pinto "leaves you with that warm feeling inside."

On a lighter note - did anyone notice that Janice looked the same 35 years ago? The other model's name was Anitra.

  • The background in the first showcase sounds a lot like the opening theme of Match Game.

  • I find it hard to believe that all of that first showcase was $2,075 on that 1975 show. These days with the AICO furniture, Ashley, Pulaski or other brands, it'd be over $18,000, $19,000 or $20,700. Blame it on inflation!

  • I liked how they went on a little longer with the showcases so you could hear the funky background music longer. They had and still have the coolest, danceable background music out of any game show. They need to make an album of those instrumental songs. I know that Edd Kalehoff and Score Productions did all the music.

  • These days, those showcases would be $19,000 to $20,000 with those rooms and other prizes. They're like $6500 to $8000 with those living room/dining room groups. Sometimes, I get offended by the excesses of the room showcases when they add a spa or watercraft to it sometimes--they want to be Wheel of Fortune and its extravagant prizes way too much!

  • I guess you prefer a lifetime supply of Rice-A-Roni than said items you mentioned.

  • It's funny how the decaf coffee has no brand!

  • I've noticed on TPIR these days a large number of the small prizes (can openers, clock radios, etc.) used on games such as Plinko don't have sponsor plugs. I guess "promotional consideration" just ain't what it used to be.

  • Yep, plus most of those prizes are purchased by TPIR and the reduced amount of promotional advertising that network will allow TPIR.

  • It did, called Decaf.

  • I was bummed for Mary winning $8.74...

  • I think if he got horny, it was because of who was modeling the sofa.

  • eww look at that car...

  • OR a tea set??? Geesh...

  • amc gremlin with the 318 v8

  • AMC Gremlin with the 304 V8.

AMC did not use the Chrysler small block or any other manufacturers engines until 1977.

  • a pinto or a germlin il pass on the cars

  • Don't you just love that reaction when she saw that COLOR TV and when she saw that FORD Pinto. Just to think, back then, it was HOT. Today, that's is the equal to what a Flat Panel HD tv an a CHEVY Cobalt. WOW!

  • money prizes were not what they are now.. Pinto lol.. "padon me, you're sitting on my whammo.."

  • Oh. I feel awful for the last woman. They're like, "Here! You got enough to buy yourself dinner tonight! Now, the person who won a trip with luggage, and another person who won a camper, here's a bed set, and some air freshener, and some gum, an old book, a chair, a television, and don't forget the car!"

It's... insane. And quite rude. I'm glad for the wheel.

  • AHA. "You can win a car! ... Or a tea set! It's shiny!" Why wouldn't they go, "You can win a tea set, or a car!" And I can't believe it was only $3916, and a sports car from a 1986 episode was only around $15000. It's insane.

  • did i hear johnny say that gremlin had a v8? that would be worth a lot of money now.

  • My wife bought a brand-new 1974 Gremlin with the V-8, automatic transmission, radio, heater, whitewalls and nothing else...and it was $3000 in 1974...the '75 models had to deal with catalytic converters and heavier bumpers than the '74s...

  • I wonder if they got a supply of Whammo Bubble Gum and Decaf Coffee or just one of each.

  • Was Whammo Sugarless Bubble Gum the original name for Blammo Sugarless Bubble Gum which changed its name in 1976 following a lawsuit from the Wham-O Toy Company?

  • I think that Whammo Bubble Gum was made by Wrigley's.

  • Armoul Products of Illinois.

  • Bob won't play any old episodes because they gave away fur coats and he is a vegan now.

  • HORRAY FOR THE SILVER TEA SET!

  • WHAMMO - One letter away from losing all your stuff!

  • Bob was such a pro.

  • did they hae the big wheel back then?

  • not until either the early or mid 80s

  • @coleyd

Actually, they added it later in 1975.

  • The big wheel and Showcase Showdown were introduced when TPIR was expanded to one hour effective 11/3/75.

  • In the very first week of the 1975-1976 season, the show was an hour. It had the Rainbow Wheel where contestants in Contestant's Row played. It went back to a half hour until 11/3/75 when it permanently became an hour show and the Big Wheel and Showcase Showdown was introduced.

  • no, this was still the 1/2 hour version, where they would have the top two winners from the three games they played on there. see today, its three games, then the wheel, then three more. but then it was just three games and then the showcase

  • @hummer2567 the big wheel was introduced when the show went to a full hour later in 1975

  • Oh well, $8.00 was a lot back then.

  • the prizes were so crappy when you lost , that game sucked

  • It'd be great if GSN got TPIR gain, ut Bob Barker is against it.

  • Isn't it Les Moonves who won't allow TPIR to be put on GSN?

  • Don't forget the Ford Pinto! My granddad had one of those when I was a kid! Whoo!

  • Personally...I'd perfer the tea set.

  • CBS didn't ruin every second of the picture with their logo on the screen in 1975!

  • AHH MAN an AMC GREMLIN, Can't get one of those without the AM Radio thats a MUST!!! LOL
