this screams myrtle beach s.c. and wrightsville and carolina beach n.c.......get your shaggin shoes on ya'll! i am 40 and i was raised listening to this!
This record is a double-sided hit - "Teasin' You" was huge in New Orleans and the Gulf South in 1965. Thank you for posting "the other side," & kudos to all that like soul/r&b/disco/house/jazz/blues/funk - any permutations thereof."Co-opting" of American music? No, NorthernSoul designation has shined a spotlight on many artists and songs long forgotten or never "known" before. It reinvigorated many careers, and has really made the U.K. pop charts more interesting in their variety. DAVEDJ .
reminds me of an early Chuck Jackson or early William Bell..the good ones that aren't posted of course few might be!!Great song, first time heard//thanx*****
To me that's 60' soul. I thaught that northern meant that it was coming from Detroit ( motown ) as it is in the upper north of the USA... anyway. good music.... Feel good music :)
More & more I am annoyed by this label of "Northern Soul". I understand England's North is kind of like the American South in that it's working class and that this music was first popular there before catching on in the rest of the U.K. but this music isn't Northern Soul because it is American. This music is simply 'Soul Music' and it happens to be American. Just call it soul.
@Alhambrasheff Nope, but accuracy does matter. Willie Tee wasn't 'Northern Soul' or 'beach' music, but was representaative of the New Orleans sound that is better reflected on "Teasin' Me'.
@zapwatt What`s to get annoyed about ? Northern Soul is a term and genre we use in the UK and it covers many artists and styles, few, if any artists would be described as NS, but some of the sounds produced found popularity within the NS scene, at the time the more upbeat and rare the track the better. This track found popularity in the UK because of the NS scene, without the NS scene many tracks and artists might have had to wait years more to be appreciated in the UK. We all love Soul !!! KTF
Northern soul, I've never heard the phrase before. Wiki defines it as a British phenomenon. In the Southeastern US, this is called beach music. Regardless, this is an old time favorite of mine and thanks for posting.
Many thanks for the comment, much appreciated. A quick searh on Youtube for "Northern Soul" will give you a good idea of what the scene is about and just how varied our love of Soul music is, and this has been true since the late `60`s. I hope you find time to check it out and discover just how varied "Northern" actually is, I hope you get hooked !!! .Regards.
Whichever way you go , be it a general term like Northern or Beach, I know this guy has left tremendous memories for all of us, Carolina, Beach, Northern, it`s all great to me. Many thanks for the comment.
I saw Willie in the mid 80s in New Orleans at the Jazz Fest. He was into his jazz thing at that time but this is a great song and thank you for posting. May he rest in peace. I also saw Lee Dorseys' last perfromance at that same fest. Now they are both gone.
I know there are a few postings of this track by Willie, but after his recent passing I just had to include it in my uploads for sharing. When this track gets into you, it cant be removed.!!! Thanks for taking the time to leave a comment.

How many times did I shag to this at Myrtle Beach? It played many times a night at Starnes on the jukebox back in the 1970's.
