this is pretty close to what I'm trying to do with guitar but the tone isn't what i want on the shred parts only on the long bends and vibrato. if you took away the backing would it sound as jazzy though?

When the key changed, it looks like he wanted to change modes, going from a major scale (over a I to VI) to a minor pentatonic blues scale. That and the key change combined kinda catches your attention.
