Just saw the movie, fucking changed my life. The ending, in my opinion, he chooses to die and stay in his room because during the movie he struggles with questions of the afterlife and he said at one point that he hopes he can breath a sigh of relief before he dies because he has done all he can and is ready to face what comes next. Also, I found it very lovely because of the message it relays to the outcasts of the world: It will get better for you. Plus, Frank kicks FUCKING ASS!

I saw the movie Donnie Darko for the first time today, at first I thought 'wtf is going on?' then something clicked and it all started to make sense. It was horribly beautiful. The ending had such an effect on me that I thought I would recommend it here for others to watch. The music and the way that it worked with the scenes was beautiful. I love the sort of films that leave you speechless.

@lacewingslippers It's not scary at all. It's a psychological thriller. Frank (The giant rabbit, which is really a guy in a costume in the movie) is just really creepy looking. That's all really. And you might need to see the film quite a few times to "fully" understand it's meaning. The Director's Cut explains alot of these "questions" but I would suggest watching the regular version first, it's just more enjoyable that way..

@leviethen It revolves around the book he gets which causes him to realise he is in a tangent universe and in order to get back to the primary and stop it from being destroyed must complete the loop must bring the jet engine back with him. It is unclear whether his death was actually necceary but it was a long and surprisingly complex plot.
