  • Thank you! It turned out fabulous. Plus, cute guy helped :)

  • god bless him and his broken english <3 you runny

  • Retake lol

  • how many grams is 1 1/2 cups of rice?

  • HaHaHaHa, it took for you 3 hours to make two coup rice,

change your method, fast wash two coup of water in running water, (that is one minute), then put the rice in microwave oven, keep time on 8 minutes, after eight minutes check the rice, cover the vessel and put for another 3 or 4 minutes. your rice is ready in less than fifteen minutes. you should put oil and salt as required before hand.

  • why do i have to place a frying pan under the pot??

  • Thanks.., goo tutorial :)

  • I couldn't get hold of any short grain rice or Japanese sushi rice so i used a mix of medium long grain rice and glutinous rice, the results came out nice, almost like real japanese rice but a bit more sticky. I used a measurement of 2 part regular rice : 1 part glutinous rice.

  • do you have to use sugar? what will happen if i don't use it?

  • @AgBrBeIeEnwood you dont have to use sugar if you use a seasoned rice vinegar. For ex, i have a kikkoman seasoned rice vinegar that contains the same effect of making your own. about 5 bucks at a local whole foods.

  • @runnyrunny999 I do not have a rice cooker. I made the rice according to your recipe. However when I went to form Onigiri the rice didn't hold to well so I could not handle my Onigiri. I had to use a fork (-_ -') I was highly disappointed. I think I didn't let the rice cool down enough or I did something else wrong. Any advice you can give me on this?

  • i really must say that this was a wonderful recipe i made sushi and it was fantastic thanks to your sushi rice really good thank you

  • I love this video and you make the rice look so easy to make. Just one question, whey use the pan under the pot when you are going to boil the rice, Other then that, great job.

  • Ghehe! You rock!

    Thanks!

  • I laugh so hard when you say " now you know make a sushi , so you ready to make a sushi.. Hah??? .. then retake.. OMG to your expression LOL

  • @mrsbeautylover

I know... the end cracked me up...

  • You are so adorable! Let the sushi roll! LOL

  • why do you need to wash the rice

  • @iancansing washing rice reduces starch so it cooks evenly and is less mushy. some rice brands add powders to whiten rice so that gets washed away in the process too.

  • @kibidangoDAIsuki o thnx

  • @iancansing because the rice might not be clean, since some places just rinse with water after picking it from the rice patty

  • helpfull and entertaining ^_^

    definitely subscribing

  • whats the name of the leaf that had been soaked for 1 hour? i thnk , not in our country, can it be substitutes with? tnx handsome cook

  • @NeoFurri tablespoon and teaspoon

  • @NeoFurri table spoon i guess.

  • what other stuff I can use instead of the seaweed. I live in a remote almost island wehre I dont find this kelp. nice vid

  • I didn't have rice vinegar so I added apple cider vinegar but only added salt no sugar and it came out great so if you don't have rice vinegar then apple cider vinegar works. not the exact taste but still good none the less.

  • I used this recipe and it came out fabulous! thanks sooo much!

  • Love this video. I use this instruction all the time and rice is always delicious.

  • thank you so much for this, i just made california rolls for the first time and the rice came out PERFECT...and i'm no cook! lol. my rolling was terrible, but that was about it...but without this video i would've been fucked so thank you again hah :D

  • Thank you! I'll try this recipe. The one that came with the rice I bought made it hard to chew on, instead of soft and puffy.

  • lol, i have a rice cooker though..

  • haha wait does it have to be white rice... haha been using brown rice just realized

  • can you help me? whenever i try to make sushi rice i think i make the sushi rice dressing bad i use

    Ricer Vinegar

    Sugar

    Salt

it doesn't taste like sushi rice.. well its too sweet

  • SWEETNESS !! :D

  • woah...this is pretty cool. this is a tight technique. now how do you do it if you have a rice cooker?? lol. same thing?

  • is the konbu kelp really necessary?

  • @xXReaperXx4308 I would say, sushi is all about subtlety. The soft, salty, flavor that the konbu adds is really something that only some one who has been eating sushi for a long time will notice. If you are just going to make American sushi, with mayo and cream cheese, those ingredients will cover any subtle flavors the konbu adds. So no, it is not really necessary, but if you want to make it right then yes.

  • just want to say thank you for making this vid. i got it right on the first try and the sushi i made with the rice turned out perfect.

  • why do u use the pot in the pan does that make a difference

  • Easy and fun!

I also follow you on Twitter! : )

  • very helpful Runny! I just need to get the kelp now... Is there anything you can substitute it with?

  • What if you don't have that padel?

  • you are the best, omg thank you

    !!!

  • girls gone wild music lol

  • @clos19851 hahahahahaha

  • @clos19851 i thought of mario party -.=

  • Would it be okay without kelp

  • @bivcyz00 yes, the kelp is really optional. Its fine without it.

  • I don't know where you live, but you can get kombu(kelp) at whole foods, pcc, uwajimaya's,or even some qfc's and asian grocery store,I live in a big city so I have access to it at many places,I hope you can find it,it is great for miso soup.

  • your so cute! thanks for the instructions.

  • Umm...can help cause the bottom me the rice got burned. Anyway to prevent it?

  • @AprilFool369 Use a thick-bottomed pot or do what he did in the video - put the pot in a pan on the burner.

  • could anyone help me what is "Konbu kelp" or where can I find it ?

  • this reminds me of cooking mama :D the hand fan ^^

  • Thanks for uploading this

  • Where do you get the kelp?

  • dude! you washed the rice for too many times! it washes all the vitamin B1 covering the rice away, thus reduces a large part of the rice's nutrition. I appreciate that you nicely cook the rice traditionally, but washing the rice "traditionally" too?? 0.o

  • dude! you washed the rice for way too many times! it washes all the vitamin B1 covering the rice away, thus reduces a large part of the rice's nutrition. I appreciate that you can actually cook rice traditionally, but washing rice "traditionally" too?? come on! 0.o

  • @redhydrangea1991 Rinsing the rice washes away excess starch, which can make the rice gooey or slimy when you cook it like this. For sushi rice, you want it to be nice and fluffy!

  • @redhydrangea1991

He obviously washed rice too much. I think that is not the proper way of making traditional sushi recipe.

  • why the sugar looks different than I have ??? is it very soft sugar ?

  • before i met my husband I never used a rice cooker because my parents would alow it >< they said rices cookers are for ore than 3 ppl and i was like wtf xD not they are not but i became a pro at cooking rice without one. but i never used a pan while cooking rice is that to stop it for scorching on the bottom?

  • "kay know you know how to make sushi...........now you're ready to make sushi." LOLOL

  • Thank you for the video!

  • What kind of rice should I use?? Any rice?

  • Nutrients.... If you want nutrients you should be eating brown rice.

  • You're so cute! I just want to pinch your cheeks!!

  • So now we know how to make sushi rice and we're ready to buy a rice coocker for next time...:)

  • it kind of sounds like Jamaican music in the background

  • @burgersfortheboysss its calypso music :)

  • All the thumbnail said was "How to make sushi rice without rice" I was shocked, then it said cooker...OH

  • What do you do once you added the vinegar mixture and mixed it in? as in how long to leave it to cool and where to leave it to cool? How long can you keep it in the fridge for?

  • oh oh oh, runny!!

its wrong to wash rice like that!!!

you just have to wash it 2 times and you can cook it. wash it to much, it will lose its nutrient!! :-)

  • @chonkhongduocnick yeah i heard that too. I was told by my taiwanese friend who is a chef. He said never wash the rice more than twice because it loses its nutirents and washing it is only to remove dust and or foriegn particals :) I think washing rice more than twice also makes it lose its taste in my opinion. So now i tell my husband to wash it 2 times from washing it 4-5 times

  • can I use wakame instead of konbu? I cannot find it in whole belgrade, and i cannot travel 200 km to buy algae

  • lol wahhahahah

  • if you don't have the kelp is it still okay?

  • RICE GONE WILD~! <3

  • why don u save the rice water for oily plates??

  • @stressfree45 im guessing it cuts trough grease ? xD but after the 1st time u wash the rice keep the water frm the second time of washing and use it to was ur face with. it help keep ur skin bright :)

  • Kizazuky!!! ohhhh !!!!! nooooooooooo cunami cunami
