Great version of a fantastic song of a brilliant band. Aztec Camera could have become as big as The Smiths, but after the first record some things went wrong....
Mid 80-t´s, northern sweden. All I wanted was to be anyplace but there. Great upload. Thanks for the memories. Those northern blokes like Aztec Camera, Orange Juice, The Bunnymen etc had style!
Fascinating - I've never heard this version. My favourite track (just!) on possibly my all-time favourite album. Used to have it on in my bedroom while doing my homework leading up to my O-levels & in the 6th form.
yeah i played this more than the A side n quite different from High Lands Hard Rain version Very funny coment re We could send send e mails ! Romantic lyricists like Roddy coud not flourish in modern times.Thanx 4 the post.Would like 2 c Mattress of Wire 2
wow I had that cassette for years untill it got chewed. I didn,t even know it had the name C81. I got when I was in highschool. definite favourite for me were Blue Boy-orange juice. wish you could post that one.
I have the Postcard 45rpm version, which I love (I think it's much more inspired than the later album version). But I never knew of this version at all. It sounds great, like a different take from the same sessions that produced the original 45 version. Not sure if that's the case, but it's wonderful all the same. Many thanks for posting!
I had this cassette from NME it was realy good. It got me into aztec camera and John cooper clarke. two of the bands are from liverpool, blue orchids and wah. the dub version of twist and crawl was one of the best beat records. nme also did a tape with vic godard singing just in time, i wish i had kept it. thanks for posting. everything was more simple then.
SIDE ONE: "The "Sweetest Girl"" Scritti Politti "Twist and Crawl Dub" The Beat "Misery Goats" Pere Ubu "7,000 Names of Wah!" Wah! Heat "Blue Boy" Orange Juice "Raising the Count" Cabaret Voltaire "Kebab Traume (Live)" D.A.F "Bare Pork" Furious Pig "Raquel" The Specials "I Look Alone" Buzzcocks "Fanfare in the Garden" Essential Logic "Born Again Cretin" Robert Wyatt
SIDE TWO: "Shouting Out Loud" The Raincoats "Endless Soul" Josef K "Low Profile" Blue Orchids "Red Nettle" Virgin Prunes "We Could Send Letters" Aztec Camera "Milkmaid" Red Crayola "Don't Get in My Way" Linx "The Day My Pad Went Mad" The Massed Carnaby St John Cooper Clarkes "Jazz Is the Teacher, Funk Is the Preacher" James Blood Ulmer "Close to Home" Ian Dury "Greener Grass" Gist "Parallel Lines" Subway Sect "81 Minutes" John Cooper Clarke
Any fellow musicians know what the guitar chords are? I know the intro on the bass is G# F# E B but beyond that I'm kinda lost it's been awhile since I used my ears for interpreting music :(
wow.....amazing find. thanx a billion for posting this. never heard this version. love its rawness....still sounds like it belongs on alternative radio now.
I discovered MUSIC with aztec camera and this is the second best song for me, after Walk out to winter. Glad to know there are people who still love aztec camera. From Mallorca.
I tried to upload the single version of we could send letters and just like gold but it seems the mp3 is blocked so meh...I'll upload the Matress of Wire single later
Thanks so much for posting this. It really is moving to hear Roddy Frame's voice sounding so much better on this version, than on others I've heard of this song. Thanks again
i wish all Aztec Camera songs could be like these. Damn money driving thinking.

Ive never heard this version before!
Its got an urgency that the LP version lacks and is way more potent for it.

Wow, this song brings back memories.
"We could send emails" just doesn't quite have the same ring to it.

This version is a lot faster than the LP. Roddy sounds so, so young. Brilliant.

Hi
try Googling "Killermontstreet"
at the bottom of the hopmepage is a bit for guitarists - we could send letters is one of the ones featured.
good luck!
