a lot of judges, prosecuting attorneys and politicians want to get re-elected on that "they are tough on crime", but they don't admit that the criminal justice sysyem is a failure-corrupt and the strong get stronger and the weak pay extra with their ass and money from relatives if they survive at all. Earnest remorse, debt to society and rehabilitation to be a better citizen doesn't work in 99.99% of the cases. They just become meaner and learn more crime.
