  • Oh God, what keeps you out keeps me in.

  • i feel like m ward should be holding a pipe in this picture

  • WOW!!!!!!!!!!! this group put some soul into this song...clap clap!

  • I think it's amazing that this song captures mine (and most people's) feelings on God. Love this and The Roots' version.

  • sounds like flaming lips

  • m.ward looks so fucking valiant in this picture.

  • @kittydojo1 "valiant". haha. and @marimba94 that's word. I was buggin out when I first heard Black Thought rhymed to this I didn't believe it. but it what true!

  • yesss....

  • 2:40 godly sample

  • @IanJackes i will be using that

  • why they changed country guitars to this perfect sound? I thought all songs had similarity with the others ...

  • they sampled the drums from a rap song...ughh idk which one tho im almost sure its a kanye west sample tho...somebody please help me lol its bothering me that i dont know ...its on the tip of my tongue (pause)

  • nevermind it was a kid cudi song lol i feel so much better now lol "where is the love"

  • Comment removed

  • @mattwash32 they didnt sample a kid cudi song

  • * is there any love

  • @mattwash32 KiD CuDI actually sampled it too. It's a Trevor Dandy song, originally.

  • @mattwash32 It's Is there Any Love by Kid Cudi.

  • @mattwash32 Actually...theres an older source too. Trevor Dandy's 1970 gospel song "Is There Any Love." Apparently Kid Cudi sampled the same song? I am not sure on that, but both have the same melody and rythym.

  • The background vocals sounds a lot like Marvin Gaye's songs. Especially "Anna Songs" by him.

  • this is exactly how i feel about God.

  • jim james entering @ 2:54 ish is heavenly

  • @Mileck64 thats conor

  • This is definitely one of my favorite songs right now. And to think I was introduced to this band by my English 3 teacher xD

  • THE most beautiful song I have ever heard!

  • I know, I too have the album. Here's the thing. Musicians don't won't you to know they do things the "easy" way. They just aren't admitting it. Besides, if MOF didn't use the drum machine, then you can bet it was used somewhere before MOF got it. Bottom line is damn near all of this kind of beat comes from either a drum machine or a computer program. If it is not human, then it has to be. Wouldn't you agree?

  • Yeah this is cold

  • heard this on the radio , love it!

  • does anyone else think of the flaming lips when they hear this?

  • The first contact I've had with this band is this YouTube clip. My sister heard it on a non-commercial radio station.

Is anyone able to tell me whether these guys have signed up with a record label or are they independent?

On the song, it is reasonable. Invites the listener to hear things with heart. Quite a good release. Simple (which is different from easy).

  • theyr indie still i think, but i saw theyr CD at target the other day so idk

  • If Jamiroquai and Groove Armada worked together on a song I think it would sound like this..

  • He has. Thousands of years ago!

    It just takes some searching.

  • Good questions, Mof.

    Answer those, God.

  • I don't think they sampled the drums at all. It is just a common drum machine beat. I have several drum machines here in my studio, and I can easily match this. That is the thing about automation. It does take the "human" out of it. But in this case, like a lot of others, it just doesn't matter. If you care about the drums here, you are missing the point of the song. In my humble opinion. Love and peace.

  • @leftyjcw no it is a sample. its credited in the album booklet

  • Dear God, what a great song! Saw them on Jimmy Falon this morning and they were excellent.

  • me too! Hadn't heard of them till I saw them on there.

  • @luvmegan Speaking of JImmy Fallon, The Roots collaborate with MoF amazingly on their track Dear God 2.0.

  • i HEART this song!!

  • This song is so haunting. So beautiful. Why do so many suffer?

  • Comment removed

  • i find myself mirroring the feelings found in the lyrics alot lately. Very nice tune by m.o.f. :D

  • The acoustics at sutbbs in Austin on friday the 13th were A M A Z I N G!!!!!!

  • this beat sounds like the kid cudi beat or maybe its just me.

  • Its a drum track from "Is There Any Love." Kid Cudi uses the same drum track in one of his songs

  • Good ears!

  • Yeah Kid Cudi uses this beat. But they both sampled the beat from Trevor Dandy's song "Is There Any Love."

  • just got back from seeing them at the beacon in nyc. they killed it on stage. this song was my particular favorite. new favorite band!

  • so SADE.....great song

  • I saw them In Minnesota Last Thursday, I'm wearing the shirt now.

My mind is still blown from a combo of Yim Yames's voice, and Conor and M's Guitar playing.

  • What they came to Minnesota!!!

  • @SwazyFinesse

    Yes sir! October 29th!

It was at the Orpheum (which is fancy enough already!)

    It was amazing!

  • You're Soooooooooo lucky!

  • saw them at the bridge benefit concert

    beautiful.

  • Love this, great song.

  • **SUPER SUPER!!!!*** MAGIC!!

  • man favorite artists in one band! lol sweeet all star team :D

  • this has "The Soft bulletin" written all over it........

  • dude..... totally. I was thinking that today when I was listening to it.

  • saw them at the greek last night too! And it is better live. :)

  • Sooo awesome! Saw them last night at the Greek. This song is way better live!

  • some 70s gospel song *titled the same "Is There Any Love?" by...uh trevor dandy. Can't wait to get this cd dl'd to listen to!

  • this is the only phenomenal song on their album. The rest is mainstream garbage. lol

  • i agree with you, this song is awesome, but the whole album is sweet imo. hope to see them live some day :D

    cheers

  • I definitely disagree. I like most of it a bit. And there are a few songs I like a lot. I wouldn't call it garbage in the least.

  • most of you probably aren't kid cudi fans, but I recognized the beat from Is There Any Love from his A Kid Named CuDi mixtape. And beyond that, some 70s gospel song. Hah. I reaaallly like it on this, and I think I like this song quite a bit. Whether it was expected or not. :)

  • Not really a fan of this style--I like the country-rock thing they have going on in different tracks a bit more.

  • whose going to the Toronto show Nov 2nd?

  • Nice tune...

  • This sounds so much like the Flaming Lips and is therefore awesome. The rest of the album, less Flips-y, but still it's awesome.

  • Jesus. That drum pattern is insane! Great lyrics too! Incredible song!

  • Does anyone know who all these guys are who are singing this?

  • conor oberst of bright eyes

    mike mogis of bright eyes

jim james of my morning jacket

    m. ward from she & him

  • Hahaha m. ward is from much more than she and him. He is way more famous as a solo artist.

  • @30degreeseverywhere m.ward is from m.ward bro!

  • Thanks to KCRW for turning me on to these guys. Great dance tune, btw... Almost wanna see you guys in Jackson Five suits. :) Nice falsetto, baby.

Thanks for adding a touch grace to my life.

  • Lovely!

  • This is the best song of the year, right Keith?

  • Jim James is the new king of falsetto.

  • This has a lot of Eykah Badu. YY is heavily influenced by her.

  • ya dude, im expecting NAS or some shit to pop out and bust a line.

  • haha yeah me too. its so smooth

  • who is YY? Just wanna know so I can look them up.

  • Yim Yames or Jim James from My Morning Jacket.

  • beautiful

  • damn man, this is some heady/heavy shit.

  • On the album, all three brought songs they had written individually, then they collaborated. This is OBVIOUSLY one of Jim James. I love it! These guys are the brightest in music today. So refreshing to hear artists playing, writing and SINGING!

  • precisly. ARTISTS. none of this lady gag me shit.

  • im kinda disappointed, barely any conor. not just vocally but musically. it doens't feel like HIM. anyone agree?

  • it shouldnt feel like HIM.. its a group bro, a collaboration..it shouldnt sound like any one artist, and it doesnt, its a fuckin wonderful jam

  • no Texas shows man

    none

  • holy shit this is fucking awesome

  • i certainly increased the view count by 30-40 today

  • I honestly think this is a lot better than what I expected. And they even said themselves the "Monsters of Folk" name was more a joke than anything else. Can't wait to see them in Omaha

  • This is a step in the right direction in my book. I love mmj, but I just might be lovin this more!

  • sounds like one of those oldie station r & b songs by marvin gye or something

"whats going on?" tell me whats going on"

  • whats going on is its finally time to get back 2 making real music again, the 70s ruled.

now if they would just use the same recording techniques

  • they are playing in omaha in october. tickets are FIFTY DOLLARS. they'd better have an orchestra.

i do not dislike this song, and i know it's strange as this is not what any of us would predict these guys to release. unfortunately, that turns some us off of the music, but if you think about it without judging on these artists previous records, i think we can agree its not a bad song.

  • are tickets really 50 dollars at the holland?

  • unfortunatey

  • all three artists do well in omaha, and are well known... it will probably still sell out

  • I'm not sure what to think of this song...But isn't it supposed to be "The Monsters of FOLK"? Maybe they should change it to "Monsters of R&B". But other than this song I really love everything else I've heard.

  • i do not think i like this

  • errrrr not sure how i feel about this.

it has a flaming lips feel to it, no?

  • i agree.

  • Someone tell me how this song ends, I fell asleep at about the 2:00 mark. Unfortunate.

  • boy band of folk lol..

  • Well...it doesn't sound like folk music, but it's pretty good none the less.

  • this is strangeeeeeeee shitttttttt

  • Gatherings like this should stretch wings; i like it: sincerity gives it roots & wings; lots of hooks that are brilliantly & sincerely executed: ]. SoCal, Detroit & Oz somehow all in one .... rolled up in:

    'More!' .... please!

  • This song would be great if it wasn't for the damn chorus. It just sounds really poor written compared to what these guys could produce.

  • this sounds a bit like an r&b song. interesting, its gonna take a few listens.

  • Thank you god, I couldn't freakin download these songs!

  • awesome.

  • wow, you're fast.

  • thanks :3
