I think it is kinda easy to play banjo. Though I am Japanese, I could play banjo when I was a youth age. There are many instructional books of playing banjo in the US. In case of me, it was hard to find such the instructional books in Japan at that time. However I could play the banjo! Tune is "open G" Please get it through the books.

  • Sorry if this is a "noob question" But I've never played banjo and I really whould like to buy one :P And i'm just wondering. How is a banjo tuned? is it like a Guitar? That if you put your finger on the 5th freth on lets say the top string,is the string under the same note or what? I whould really like to know :P

  • most likely "open G"

  • Yep, open G standard tuning (GDGBD). 2nd string 3rd fret = 1st string open (D), 3rd string 4th fret = 3rd string open (B), and so on.

  • yea, i jus started messing around with this one, and figured it to be the same as most others

  • Hi" Folk`s I see you have Fun

    nice Greetings from Austria

  • he probably turns you on

  • yeah. keziki if u dont like the video dont watch it deepshit.

  • Fantastic! Great job guys!!

  • Excellent.

  • cool i'm learning how to play the banjo

  • Pick on!

  • Keep it up!!

  • I just got the TAB for this song from someone today, i'm gonna try and get it as good as urs =D.

  • I also forgot to mention, where you would usually slide in to Em by going on the D from first to second fret, how you went from fourth to second sounds really good.

  • well, it was recorded by earl scruggs in the key of G, but the recording process was really weird back then, so by the time it was on record, it had sped up ust a little bit into G sharp.

    Good job!

  • Thanks, this is an interesting detail: I remember reading that early bluegrass bands (in the early Bill Monroe days and the early Flatt & Scruggs days) purposely tuned their instruments about a half-step up because they liked the higher pitch and tighter string tension. You can hear this on a lot of the early Flatt & Scruggs recordings (ex. the tunes on "Foggy Mountain Jamboree").

Thanks everyone for the comments! I do not have tabs but this is pretty close to the version in the Scruggs book.

  • Doz u know the Darrington's?

  • VV4NNcc33 is right. See my band's version of the traditional bluegrass classic, "All My Day" (at my youtube page) for a lesson on proper tempo and, keep working!
