have watched this film twice now in with subtitles in english. Was moved to tears at the harshness of her life and yet she was still able to paint...most real artists move walk the fine line of genius and madness.
It is not right that as a young woman I went to art school and heard nothing about this woman. I should have been taught about her works, as an inspiration for me as a child.it is sad that one does not have someone like this portrayed as a mentor. I am glad to see she is now known, and appreciated. the hell with whomever writes the art history books.
@mrsbrown333 I think that is because your teachers may not have heard of Seraphine de Senlis either! Without the film her painting would have probably remained mostly unknown. People often don't have confidence in their reactions and opinions when it comes to art and it takes someone, in this case a patron or a film maker, to say something is worth looking at. Human beings respond basically like sheep so if we see others looking we think it must be worth looking at too.
"Thank you so much for creating this video of some of her work. I just watched the Movie Seraphine in French with English captions. Her work is just so incredibly detailed and has such vibrant colors." (fechmb0749)

And thanks to this wonderful composition of your own a trip to France won't be necessary. You truly have captured the beauty of her few works which otherwise cannot be seen in detail and full perspective at the same time. Thank you for accomplishing this.
i hate it when they call and lable someone mentaly ill.seraphine was very creative and imaginitive.unusal.unique and god sent.a truely beautiful person.
Thank you so much for creating this video of some of her work. I just watched the Movie Seraphine in French with English captions. Her work is just so incredibly detailed and has such vibrant colors. I can see why she said the work was dedicated to the Virgin Mary. It is inspirational given her bleak and impoverished life; exactly the opposite of it.
@modelleg What a coincidence! That was my first comment! i mean I said - watchin the movie "Seraphine" with my girffriend -: "she seems to have Pollock style before Pollock himself". Even as Patrickg75 said: c'est improbable...

@stroudart i am french and live in america for 20 years .. and there are plenty of artist lovers in the us ... its not fair to talk like this .. i know many french people who dont know anything about art and dont care .. i would say that the french tv and media is much better .
@stroudart The USA is really diverse, you should give us a try before making up your mind. For example, I'm a lover of art so you found one already :)
@SuperStarsNStripes There are many Americans who claim to love Art. The problem is their checkbooks do not reflect that love. Artists can't live off pats on the back.
@benmcdadestroud It's strange to blame America for poor artists. Europe has plenty of poor artists in it. The whole world is struggling in a horrible economy. Not everyone on earth is guaranteed a living doing what they love. America has so many galleries. To blame a nation like this just sounds silly and prejudiced.
@benmcdadestroud it seems lke I can't write the name of my web page here where I have my paintings. It keeps getting kicked back as an error. Too bad I'd like to show you..
According to a recent survey, the average American TRUSTS Fox News. ..Accordingly, such mondane minds will never desire a work of Art out of any Altruistic sentiment for Art or Humanity. To "flip" a painting for profit like real estate OK. But for the value of "Culture" per se NO! Polyester Hearts just don't have that depth of feeling.

There is so much warmth in her art. It is very comforting. It feels a little like one could fall back into it and bathe in it.

Saw the movie "Seraphine" today. I felt really sad for her.
Those are beautiful paintings.

The sadness you express is touching and the admiration for her work truly inspirational_
I wonder how you might act on this sadness for an artist who lived her truth; her inner reality in creative manifest form?
Would you buy more art? Support the arts?
As an artist, I am really interested in how to reach the average American about the value of culture.
