My second semester of college I screwed up bigtime and failed every class. I am in academic probabtion and was wondering if:

a) will it appear on my transcript forever?

b) will this keep me from being a cop?

The US police education seems poor. Why do you not have a specialized police education with subjects that prepare you for the job you are going to perform, such as for example a bachelor degree in general police work (e.g psychology, criminology, sociology, criminal justice and law)? It seems ridiculous, pointless and counterproductive to demand a bachelor degree that in many cases does not even remotely apply to police work, such as a degree in business administration.

A lot of times you think the suspect may not be armed, and when the police search them, the police do find a gun on the suspect. If you are still 17, the first thing you should do is wait until you are at least 19 years of age or maybe you want to try to find out if there is any police dept. that is willing to hire you at 18.

If you are willing to wait until you turn 19, a huge step you could take if you really want to become a Police Officer is to get into college and get certified as Law Enforcement Officer. You do that and when you are ready to apply you'd have a great advantage over the other applicants.

The polygraph is a big fat lie! The machine CANNOT tell the difference between a truthful response versus a deceitful one. Think about it, can you honestly believe that a machine can read your mind? Just because you passed doesn't mean you are any more innocent or guilty. There are KNOWN ways to pass the polygraph that a guilty person can use to pass while an innocent person (who is nervous and/or uncomfortable) could fail. Especially tough are the Federal DOJ positions like FBI, NSA, Secret Service, Homeland Sec, etc where they try everything to eliminate you with the polygraph whether your are guilty or not. The interrogaters are very aggressive.

The sad part of the polygraph, is that for those high profile jobs, a FAILED polygraph will stay on your permanent record. So, if you apply at the FBI and fail, you cannot apply at another agency like the Secret Service because they will tap into your record and see that you failed the FBI's polygraph. You've pretty much black listed yourself from all Federal agencies. That's fucken garbage, because plenty of criminals pass the test while innocent people are denied a good job.

Yes, they are in a position of authority but they are people just like us. Drugs above weed, like coke for example, are not tolerated(in my understanding).

Honesty is a major key. As long as you stay clean you have nothing to worry about.

Unless you were arrested and there is evidence to you smoking marijuana, there's no way for them to know that you smoked marijuana. Now, that's not to say that you won't get tested, because you will. But, if you haven't smoked in a while, say two months or longer, then there's really no way for them to know. Marijuana is usually out of your system within a month.

They should drug test Police Officers on a Monthly Basis. They have the most access to drugs and a high potential for steroid abuse. Contrary to popular belief police do as much or more drugs than the rest of the citizenry. Usually they do it to enhance their performance or to combat fatique, i.e. taking Meth or cocaine or steroids.
