Chester Thompson is a great keyboard player. I think it will take a piece of Santana with him. That's not to say that Santana will fold and never be good anymore. Look how many years he has been in music. It still hurts and I think Chester was a HUGE part of Santana. He was Santana's Pippen. It hurts. My brother went to see Santana in Vegas and said the guy replacing him isn't even 1/4 of Chester!

I saw one of the last gigs Santana played with Chester, a concert in Salzburg in '08. I was in the front row and you could see that Chester gave it a 110%. I haven't yet heard Freddie Ravel (the new guy) play. But Chester + Santana = pure magic.

Totally agree! One time I went to a Santana concert and I took my Live and In Living Color album and when Chester was setting up I ran up to the stage and asked if he would sign it. He looked at the album, shakes his head with a smile and signs it! One of my treasures hanging on my wall and in my memory. Yes! Please come back to TOP, Chester, we miss you.

I think Chester Thompson has left Santana after 26 years!!! Can anyone confirm? He is/was the fundamental part of the Santana sound!!! :o( Looks like Freddie Ravel is in the new seat...

I think so. They don't even list him on the Santana website as being in the current line up.

They made the same thing with Tony Lindsay when he was working on his new album they put his name on past players, on the website says that chester is going to have a long absence due to his family, he wants to spend some time with them...Santana is not so stupid to let him go..he is an important part of the band.
