That's what I loved about cartoons from back in the 80's. We payed little (if no) attention to the backstory. But we still ate it up.

However, one thing I hated about the animated series was the lack of the other characters. My favorite character (Man-E-Faces) only appeared in 2 episodes.

I believe that this is the "Opening" that Paul Dini alludes to in the interviews on the DVD set of the 1st season. He said that initially he had or somebody had written it that ways since you don't need to be a "Good" guy to wield great power or be a Master of the Universe. I don't think they used it more than once though.

Well, let me be honest. There was an AWFUL movie called "Masters of the Universe" in 1987 where Frank Langella played Skelletor and Dolph Lundgren played "He Man". The remake was called called "Grayskull" and was to be released in 2011 but there are problems. (With Mattel about Toy rights, mind you! Gotta sell to those little ones, ya know.)

There were some good things about that film. I hated it when I was little as I didn't understand adaptation (I wanted to see the cartoon exactly but with real people). I loved the performances of the SKELETOR and EVIL-LYN characters and the latter could support a film herself with the arc her character was on at the end.
