Excellent video and perfectly presented. This dance makes me think of the continuity of stillness. Even the slightest movement is balanced and could be a marvellous photo. It is funny that the voice position of the singer is exactly the opposite of what is considered beautiful in the west. That is the shrieking, white and throat sounds, inadmissible by the rules set by opera for example.Yet beauty is splendidly revealed .
@pasa6370 Most Kabuki players are men, including the female roles. Not sure why, jut tradition. Women used to also be in kabuki... then they weren't. *shrugs*
I have never seen anything so beautiful in my life, I thought that it all was a moving painting. And if this is traditional kabuki and the courtesan was played by a male, he is the most fascinating looking man I have ever seen and more power to him.
yes she /he is a man, this kubuki ,women did not perform in public, only the geisha, and just like women in shakespeare's time they did not perform on stage, this is traditional play
Actually, the courtesans DID perform in public. The highest ranking were artists first, prostitutes second. Additionally, it was women who invented the dance form that became kabuki in the first place.
The narrator is annoying. I hate those clipped consonants. Freaking irritating. I can't even enjoy the dance with music cause I'm watching it on mute cause his voice drives me crazy.

This is a Kamigata-mai piece called Kosu-no-to. I don't know if you could consider it Kabuki.

He's probably my favorite dancer. You're right though, Ahamayoisac, he is far more graceful than most women.
