  • i use to play a borad game it was a dinsour game it wasnt a borad it was kindof a borad matt any idea what the game is called?

  • what is a samurai ninja?

  • He is aware of DnD and other roleplaying games, he just prefers more structured games like Descent. Real RPGs have more depth, but they are also more taxing (time-consuming to prepare, and e.g. "handling" the players) on the DM.

  • Duel of Ages is now $160 on Amazon!!!

  • thumbs up if you typed top 10 bored games :l

  • haha, I actually watched this videos to find out wether descent is in your top 20 or not. I never expected it to be that high since the balancing aint that good. well try t get a german versin of road to legend... u pay 3 times the price of the basic games. andactually its that with alle expensions except the latest one. the well of darkness is sold out again since a month or so. u amricans realy have it way more easy on that one. english expensions r always available

  • no 1 chess

  • Heroscape looks like a lego boardgame!

  • Hero scape... Pretty awesome! Although... if you have some time and haven't had the chance before... try Dungeons And Dragons!

  • @WilliamSilverful If you like Heroscape then I think you will like DnD. I just played it for the first time this past week and it was awesome(as long as you get a good DM). It's like a less structured version of Heroscape but not in a bad way. What I mean is that the possibilities are fairly limitless. You should definitely play if you get a chance.

  • what's with the Bengal tiger?

  • As much as I like heroscape, it is waaaaaay to dependent on dice rolls.

  • It says on wiki that heroscape is now discontinued :(....

Time for an opensource version? Hollyscape

  • Holly Rocks!

  • Hero Scape is rediculously huge!

  • will you decipher the ...::: OnyxCode :::...

  • 6:41 - 6:50

    SEGREGATION!!! :0

  • oh my gosh Holly is so cuuuuuute!! What a sweetie

  • now i wanna play with Holly! it looks like the coolest game ever! hahahaha

  • 2:23 kid's face.

  • 0:37 You almost smashed her hand. o_o

  • Samurai Ninjas. Awesome!

  • Out of pure curiosity, where do you place:

Betrayal at the House on the Hill,

    Survive,

    Lords of Vegas

    or Scattergories party game?

  • heroscape is best

  • HeroScape is the best. Of course.

  • Have you ever reviewed mutant chronicles? also a dungeon crawler game and was one of my favorite, anything like it (Descent) should be amazing i will purchase them haha

  • omg descent looks so fun. it reminds me of a game my dad played when i was like 6 but was too young to understand it. It might have been a version of dungeons and dragons with miniatures, are there any other like this?

  • @Tranqx That 's probably HeroQuest.

  • At 2:23 i went: "NOOOOOOO, dont do it!" :P

  • Wow, in the Heroscape review, this guy is like the Billy Mays of board gaming!

  • Oh my god I remember Heroscape!

  • I kept waiting for Chez Geek or Space Marines

  • this guy is stupid, candyland is the best board game

  • psh, more like TOOL of ages

  • This video has made me smile more than any other one you've ever done. kbye.

  • Wish I had someone to play board games with

  • @Zambaku It's not as good as face to face, but look up BSW. An online boardgaming site.

  • que tio más raro, por no decir otra cosa.

  • oi got Heroscape?

  • The terrain is the very best part of Heroscape. One of the best game components I have ever seen. Useful for lots of different kinds of games.

The figures are nice, but the rules are weak.

  • how is heroscape not number one

  • Family Quality Time with board game now who woud think of that. Thats Great

  • Get him! He stole a little girl!!!!!

  • I played descent as the dungeon master ... quit fun and the dice throws are sort of my specialty all in all .... I always get waht I need but I su** at card games ...

  • Weird your daughters have 3 different hair colors, blond, brunette and red head.

    Anyways, sweet reviews! :D

I want to try these now! I remember playing d&d when I was really young, so much fun!

  • @starblinky Descent really IS a very good D&D type game. Good components and good rules. It's one that I don't own but wish I did.

  • Descent is Ultimate Win

  • The Great Dalmuti = one of the best card "party" games. Dark Tower is a classic. Formula De is easy to learn and fun plus there are different tracks you can buy. I still like table top games like Warhammer too

  • dude love the show

  • i have hero scape its awsome

  • hero scape sounds cool, i guess that's why it's #3!

  • Samurai ninjas?

  • @Rakafeth yes. samurai ninjas.. the worst kind of ninja!!!

  • @gaiamantic Oh ok, now I'm with ya ;)

  • I really wish someone would do a Sid Meier's Alpha Centauri boardgame. In my view best turn based strategy game on computer. It would translate well.

  • 2:24 Holly is like WTH

  • when did he have time to make all them kids playing all those cool games?

  • holly is thinking when you dropped all the box " mommy , he is insane..... "

    =D

  • Wow, Heroscape at number three huh?

Yes the 3D terrain is awesome, but the gameplay... well it sucks.

It is SUPER unbalanced. which when I'm looking for a good game is the most important thing.

  • @jeremycrones Sike, Heroscape has some of the most balanced gameplay out there. Also there is no power creep.

The gameplay rocks. It's simplistic but it leads to great strategy.

  • to me all these three games sound prettx much the same, so playing such sort of adventure role playing table topboardgames must be really your faavourite. Have you ever heart of talisman

  • @Noirarion He definetely had. Talisman is a classic.

I've never played it, but I heard it's quite boring with lots of dice rolling and not very ellegant compared to newer games.

However, I know one guy who played it (and he isn't a board gamer as far as I can tell, however, he is damn good at chess) and he said it was really good.

What do you think about the game?

  • You're scaring her!

  • Duel of ages sounds a bit like heroscape.

  • HERO SCAPE ROCKS! played b4 its AWESOME just because you put that as 3rd i SUBBED!

  • I <3 HS.

  • Needs to have a Duel of Ages review on how it's played, I can not find one at all.

  • @Samueljustsaid Look on boardgamegeek(.)com, then surch for "Duel of Ages" and go under review. There is a written review from Tom.

  • i have just got into heroscape but in the uk its pritty much dead and i am unable to find the sets, ebay has them but are way over priced :( i hope thay re-release it,my sis is buying me descent for my birthday carnt wait.may have a look at duel of ages.

  • Lol, I would like to see him tell his daughter to clean up her room, after dumping all the game pieces.

  • I want to play descent so bad!! I cant believe he has played over 1500 board games!! I dont think I want to know how many hours I have put into all of the video games ive played.

  • just finished watching all these videos, wow they are very well done thank you!, i am diffidently going to go check out ticket to ride now.

  • the only one of those games that I have played is Descent it is awesome I think it should be the top 1 but its just my opinion

  • Where's Catan?!

  • lol@ her at 7:50

  • i want play Heroscape.

  • @Mangekosharingan7 its frickin awsome

  • @Mangekosharingan7 Its pretty fun i have the main game and the swamp expansion along with the castle expansion but all of that gets a lil bit pricey

  • Very informative. I have never played any of these games but they look like a lot of fun. My top three are: 3 Talisman, 2 Settlers of Catan, 1 Stratego.

  • HOLLY ATE A PIECE IN YOUR LAST VIDEO!

  • @JusticeBieber1 He did!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Tool of Ages, mayhaps?

  • I love heroscape.

  • lol the little girl didn't blink from 19:00 to 36:00

  • Hey, what about "Settlers of Catan"? Which spot did it get?

  • @BoardGameUnboxer:

    95...

In the newest list it's actually 130.

Although that doesn't mean that Tom don't like the game, I am still surprised that it's that low in the list...

  • Wich spot did Talisman get?

  • lol what are we looking for now holly!?...huh, what?

  • @spider That's a Hold-It card organizer. You can google that and you'll find it. It works great for a lot of games. I use it for Catan and Ticket to Ride

  • where did you get the card holder and cases you used for descent? i have the game and for now, i'm separating everything into little zip locks. but it'd be nice to have some of those cases.

  • yeah google.........there are stores that only sell or specalize in games so they probably have the cases you want for cards, characters, sets. etc etc

  • i eventually figured out that they're using tackle boxes. I found a bead case in an art store so I got that. ALso found these wooden treasure chest cases and heart shaped cases. I used the heart case for health pips, and the treasure boxes hold the cards for treasures.

  • Wow! Whatabout clue!

  • @ Amadeus:

    Clue?

How often do you play games?

I mean: I know a lot of board gamers, and nearly noone of them has a very well known board game like Monopoly, Risk or Clue as his favorite game (including me).

But Tom seems to like "Clue: The Museum Caper" (how he would say) "quite a bit" xD

  • It is a great game! Clues my fav.

  • @ Amadeus:

I hope you don't think I wanted to offend you, because that's the last thing I wanted.

I just don't like Clue very much, because it's a bit boring to go around the board and because if someone has a better note system than everyone else he will win the game.

But I think the biggest reason for me not liking it, is because there are (in my opinion) much better games out there!

  • this guy's just like 'petedorr' but with board games rather than video games

  • lol @ the co-hosts in the background, :D

  • great review

you are the tarantino of the boardgames !

  • Heroscape is bad ass. Nice review. I can't get into 7 hour rpg board games. that's a little much.

  • WHAT ABOUT TROUBLE :O

  • one question..i dot have many friends to play board games...wich games i can play alone?can you reccomend any game that i can play alone?if is possible 3 options ..thanks!!!

  • hey, u can try to look for space alert(realtime), arkham horror(kinda rpg), agricola(solitaire system).... or look at boardgamegeek for more

  • @ Himonil:

Do you want to adress Tom with this?

He already know this games and every single of them has a places in his actual Top 100.

  • @ Himonil:

    Sry for my first answer!

Damn Youtube showed your comment twice, one time as the answer it is and one time alone.

But I first just saw the last version...

    Sry!

  • oh you poor thing

  • @ picklejewce:

    What do you mean?

  • start with solitaire. That kicks AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAASS.

  • I great board game you can play alone is the old Games Workshop DUNGEONQUEST game. A little warning in advance - it's very difficult to win. I think you can find used copies of it in eBay for around $30.

  • great review and cute little girl!! congratulations keep the great reviews!!

  • My previous posts aside though ... I have to commend Tom. I own over 200 board games of my own, I'm an avid gamer and do RPGs, Miniature Games, Video games and of course board games. I have to say that the wealth of your reviews is AWESOME!! Its really cool to see people doing this sort of thing. Its nice to get a feel for a game before you decide whether or not to buy it. Its nice to get a quick little review before pulling a game out after a long time on the shelf too. Please keep it up!!

  • Decent is not a very fun game for advanced board game players. Play warhammer 40k, Warhammer Fantasy, Warmachine, D&D ... all far superior to this game. If you are playing with kids or non-gamers .. Decent is great. I like these reviews but I'd recommend cross referencing these reviews with board game geek. Also the "all time" stuff is really not fair to all of the out of print games out there many, many of which are far superior to your top three.

  • I think heroscape and descent are games for people who only play board games and won't or can't play miniature games. Games like Warmachine, Warhammer 40k, Warhammer Fantasy, etc. are much more enjoyable and much more well designed. Heroscape and Decent are really dumbed down and very basic. I love playing Heroscape with my kids, but wouldn't even consider it with the gaming group. Same with Decent it is D&D for non-RPG players, its a super basic dungeon crawl. Heroscape is also collectible.

  • He has all the games ever made, and a bunch of really cool kids to help him play them.

This is what heaven must be like.

  • i wish i had a bunch of nerd friends to play board games with... lol

  • awesome!

  • "...a really cool rule book which you want to see."

    "Hell ya."

    lolz

  • This sounds kinda like Dragonstrike.

  • dont krack your back while lifthing the games oh and i had a hart attack

  • OH my hart failed at 02.24

  • My favorite 2 are Advanced Squad Leader A Game of Thrones

  • omg each of ur daughters has a different hair color. brown, blonde and red. thats funny lol

  • Wow you have a on of games!!! :D That is awesome!!! :D

  • haha no problem. yeah it takes time to get all of it down, but keep going at it, the more you do it the more fun it is

  • hey does warhammer count as a board game?? if so was it in your top 100?

  • it's more of a wargame but it's still awesome

  • cool man thanks. lol m struggleing with it though. the nearest center to me is 2 hours or so away. it sucks

  • i would consider it a "table top game" but i have the same problem with trying to find places to play

  • Great looking board games! Some of them seem a bit daunting to learn, but they look fascinating.

  • i agree

  • That little girl has the best dad ever!

  • and when you give her the rulebooks....man little girls are cute.

  • Holly is so funny when you dump all of the heroscape pieces out haha.

  • Just wanted to drop in and say I loved your list. I like boardgames but combing through bgg isn't exactly the best way to find games I might like, however your list showing and telling about all the games gave me more then afew games to look into. Thanks again.

  • I do not find it ironic that Lunch Money did not make your Top 100. No priest with daughters their age should dig a game about little catholic schoolgirls bloodying each other up over chump change... and yet, it's MY number 1, and I actually let myself be surprised that you didn't mention it in your Top 100.

Don't worry, I'll get over it.

  • Lunch Money is just brutal and brilliant!

    I love it to.

  • And Monopoly

  • What about Sid Meier's Civilization the board game

  • i laught when i found out your 6th child will be another girl ;) from your homepage.

well anyway....Tom have you played the game Tomb from Alderac Entertainment ?

can you make a review? well tnx and keep up the great work !!

  • super XDDDDDDDDD

  • this young girl rox 7:53 :O

  • So true with the Duel of Ages moments. There hasn't been a game where if my brother gets Sparticus, it's time to get out the way because he will...not....die!

  • I love me some Heroscape.

  • Thanks for the great series. Returning to board games after being away for a while your reviews have proved most helpful. I think I've bought all your top 10 games, plus quite a few others from your top 100. Keep up the good work!

  • HEROSCAPE FTW!

  • hi what's ure opinnion of stacraft board game? ... i'm a fan of risk and i was wandering if it's similar or maybe u can give me a sugestion of another game like risk. tnx and great reviews

  • Hi Seth,

Many are pointing people who like elements of Risk to Risk 2210 A.D. or Nexus Ops as similar but much better games than the original Risk.

  • heroscape rocks :)

  • 7:41 Your daughter licked your rulebook

  • The way he handles the game pieces (dropping it on the table like that!) hurts my feelings =)

  • 2:23 HOLY SHIT

  • Thank you for choosing heroscape as three. I hope wotc sells more of it!!!!

  • I bought all three DOA games and the Scrye magazine expansion recently! I can't wait to get the Master's Addendum and the other 3 expansions! I've even taught it to my non board gamer friends! (They LOVE HALO and WWII FPS's though which helps!) :-)

    This game is amazing!

    Thanks for the review Tom!

  • Hello Tom and Holly, can u pls make review about "CONQUEST OF THE EMPIRE" 2005 game?

  • Diplomacy is an excellent game, very good for teaching, and a classic.

    And I hate it. :)

Game of Thrones is very similar, although I like it a bit better.

Both games give me a headache thanks to multiple backstabbings and angry outbursts.

  • do they sell theses games at walmart and could i play theses games with my family? also is it fun to play with just 1 or 2 other people?

  • Heroscape you'll find in all the big chains...Descent and Duel, you'd have to go to a specialty games store.

It's actually really surprising that a game as SOLID as Heroscape is so widely available.

  • all this time i passed heroscape because i thought it was a kid game in walmart, im going to buy it.

  • best show ever plz keep it up!

plz tell me your oppinion abaout game of thrones and diplomacy.

  • I originally just wanted to see what you thought of Arkham Horror and ended up watching the full top 20. I'll now go back to watching the other 80 games you've reviewed. Thanks for the entertainment and I'm really looking forward to more videos. Top notch - cheers

  • meh, Heroscape?! Ok, if you have like a good 30 minutes just to set the game up gl with that.

  • I envy you so much for all those games. But anyways amazing job with the series.

    Congratulations.

  • Great stuff! I just started getting into board games and with your insight, I won't have to go around spending a lot of money trying to find a game that suits my taste. Thanks for all the vids!

  • HeroScape!!!!

    You two are hecka funny!

    Great reviews Tom.

  • You know you've Talked about Duel of Ages plenty of times on the Cast, but for some reason I always thought it was more of a Duel in the Dark kind of game so never got that interested.

But that sounds really cool! I want!

  • I am planning to buy Descent. I've heard it is like HeroQuest but better.

  • Excellent series! I'm looking forward to future videos. Thanks for the hard work!

  • Great job. I really enjoyed the series.

  • Vasel family rocks! :D Tom, your podcast is the only subscription I have on youtube, normally I just browse, but this is just that good. Keep up the good work!

  • Great stuff Tom, but I don't envy you cleaning up that Heroscape mess. :D

Looking forward to the new series of videos.

  • Wow, finally at the end :) Me and a few friends are just getting back in boardgaming after 10 - 15 years and it's been great to get an overview of so many titles.

Thanks so much for all the effort :)

  • Hell yes! Heroscape rules all!!!

  • I was kind of hoping you'd say #1 was Crocodile Pool Party just to surprise people ;)

  • Duel sounds like that episode from the old Star Trek
