The church boy front is usually put on because of other peoples expectations of that person. I know from experience.I put that front on for years but always wanted out.. A way to just go one way or another and be done with it. What got me out was a consistant teaching on Gods grace and his love for me. I found it almost like possative torment if that makes sense. I couldn't stop thinking about a God that would persue me and never stop loving me. It drove me nuts. I started falling in love w/him.
I'd say bad Christian, not an atheist. I'm an atheist, "There are no gods." Maybe it is fun to consider yourself an atheist? Then you can say later that you were an atheist? I don't get it.
I think that this is what life is like for a lot of people in the church. There is this underlying sense that they are not good enough, not “christian” enough. Obviously much of the characters behavior in the vid is destructive, but I wonder if it is less because he is not a good enough Christian, and more because his Christianity exists as a pressure release valve, allowing him to focus his moral energies on things like bible reading and church attendance rather than actual moral issues.
