My mom taped The Christmas Toy for us before we were born (in 1987, 1989 and 1994) and didn't cut any of the commercials. The Christmas Toy is still one of our favorite Christmas movies (we watch it every year!) but just hearing these commercials makes me feel like a kid and instantly puts me in the Christmas mood! I love them. I think the original tape has been played so many times that it doesn't work, so thank you for posting these! :)
irony is adults and children werent fat back in the 80s you rarely came across someone who was obese 300Ib or more if you did everyone would stop and stare now its no big deal.....All that Corn Syrup I guess
Thank you SO MUCH for uploading this, 80sCommercialVault!!!! If I could, I would make the Kraft dishes shown in this, and give them to you for your reward for preserving and uploading! Although you deserve a lot more more for your efforts and sharing, than just this food.
Got to give them credit in that It actually looks like they just prepared the food in front of a camera. Usually for tv commercials and print ads they hire an artist to make fake food.
Ok, some comments about the food in this here commercial set
The Strawberry Almond bars look ok, but I'd use butter.
The Apple-Mayonnaise-Onion-Sour creme dip? That's just gross!
The Cheddar Crisps?.Ehh, I'd have to figure out what a "cheese dough" is first.
Ok, now, who in hell would give someone a gift basket of luke warm processed cheese slices, sandwich meat, pepper rings, & margarine with vegetables on it? Good way to get food poisoning. And who eats meatball subs and chicken wings on xmas?
@Chub4ChubsRule We always eat things like subs and wings for Christmas dinner, it's tradition that we eat "finger foods" instead of a big dinner. I think the margarine and vegetable dip sounds a little nasty too though.
was thinking about these the other day, I remember seeing them when I was a kid. Showed them to my parents, and we all had a good bit of nostalgia. Thanks for posting =)
I remember these commercials even back in the 70s - they were like a Holiday tradition because they were a number of Kraft sponsored TV speciails. It just seemed to be part of the holidays.
Wow....just...wow. I cannot believe that someone posted these. I also have childhood memories of watching Christmas Toy and seeing these commercials...THANK YOU!!
I'm not saying I'd actually eat them, but the cheddar crisps and cappuccino cheesecake don't look bad. And I'd totally eat some of that chocolate mousse.
These are great commercials and such a product of its time. Nowadays I can't imagine many modern day foodies would consider buying all their various groceries from a sing food conglomerate.
However, some of the things seen (such as Lender's Bagels and Celestial Seasonings tea) have since been sold off to other companies or spun off.
But it seems that everything back then was owned by one or two companies... either these guys or Beatrice Foods. And Beatrice Foods had the commercials ending with "We're Beatrice" at the time. Look it up.
It's so interesting to see! Just about all the labels on these products are a lot different today. I think most of them still exist although I'm not sure about Kraft strawberry preserves. I really like the 80's elegance conveyed here too and the way everything is described.
I think if I could rewind & freeze time, It would be sometime in the late 80's. My Grandma Birchfield whom I was close to was alive and well. I didn't like elementary school , so it would most likely be in the summer. And, yes, I just gave away my last name.lol
Yay!! Thanks for uploading these!! I watch my taped version a lot, too! ;)
This year, I live with my husband and I don't have the tape here.. but I'm still going to watch the christmas toy- sans the commercials, which are a cool part of it
OMG! I remember watching this on tv when I was little and thinking, "why don't my parents ever make anything like this?" Now I'm glad, because we would have all been 300 lbs! Start the x-mas dinner off with a meatball sandwich the size of New York?! Ahh!
(Wow, Perry Como!! Where's my undies to throw on stage!!!)
If anyone is intersted in the actual recipes for these, I have a few of them. You can also fined them at your public library if you just look for the magazine. TV Guide Dec. 1986. Enjoy!
I think these continued through as Kraft sponsored Fluppy Dogs that came on afterward... or was it before... I need to find my vhs tapes. And a VCR.
