    Sorry mate but you are not making scientific breakthroughs and this video is not historical. You need to utilise good experimental method and definitely read up on a few papers conducted by actual research teams before you begin assuming you are the "one and only" and making groundbreaking scientific history. Also, there is not one shred of evidence for the existence of "souls" in human beings, you are only working to ruin your potential reputation (non-existent thus far).

  • if there was a 100% chance of reflecting light then I wonder if light could store data and how much data if it can, I believe fiber optics is a stream of light that transfers data yet that has a start and a end, where this would only be a reflection so even if it was possible to store data in light i wonder what kind of defragmentation that would take to make since of it.

  • @luthervanguard interesting the idea of data storage... maybe it can be called data trapping and again how much data is a good question and if more and more light could be introduced into a 100% reflecting box, more and more data can be stored. I got the idea by an experiment to see how much was the weight of a soul measured from a dying man. That got me thinking can a soul be trapped. Who knows, soul ,light and data could all be the same !!!!

  • Of course the answer is no....

    the foil is only about 50-70% reflective for visible light. Add the speed of light to that, and you'll get a near-instant drop in intensity.

  • thanks for the comment. I am aware the answer would be no even before i started . I want to see if any one knows of a material that will 100 percent reflect the light and if it does not exist, is it possible to manufacture such a material. I also want to try to understand if there is a use for a light trap box.

    In physics, there's a saying that there's no such thing as 100%.

    You can make a pretty good mirror that reflects 99% of all light over a broad spectrum, but when you're talking the speed of light, 99% doesn't get you anywhere.

    There are also dielectric mirrors, which can reflect up to 99.999% (five nines)of radiation in a very specific wavelength. Still, in a 1 meter box, that means you've only got 10^-1400 of you original energy left after a second.

    Is there anyway you think a box could be made that the light will be kept bouncing off each wall and thus inside of the box remain lit even when the light source is switched off. I know its a bit like asking "is there a way to trap a soul so you never die" But not so long ago people were saying man flight was impossible. Ps i disagree with the poor 1 star rating as this is the first tender steps by man to create a light trap- the vid may even be historical !!!!!!!

    No, I don't think there is a way to trap light in a box. To do that, on a molecular scale, you'd have to either find a molecule that reflects all radiation, or one that emits absorbed radiation in a single direction. I think neither of those is possible.

    Unless someone comes up with a radical new methode of making a mirror, I'm pretty sure you'll always have "leakage" of photons, simply by "absorption" of the mirror material.
