Thank you so very much for this video. I have been trying to learn long tail cast on but I can never quite get it. Over and over I watched the other videos but I am such a spaz! Your video actually has me casting on stitches correctly and easily. Again, thank you so much!
I saw other videos and different techniques but yours is the one I liked the best. My work even comes out cleaner and nicer. Thank you very much for this great video. P.S. If people complain about missing a step, maybe they can figure out how to work pause, back and replay. c_c
This video is awful. You forget to mention at the end the needle needs to be pulled through the middle and I couldn't figure this out. Finally watched a different video and got it right away.
Thank you I have watched every other casting on video and yours was the only one that taught me how do to it in a slow but watchable way! Thank you for the easy verbal instructions and the medium speed visual directions!!!! You totally ROCK!!!!
I had been attempting this technique for ten minutes using a couple articles before I decided to youtube it and I'm glad I did. Your explanation was perfect! I immediately got it, so thank you!
I made up my mind to start knitting yesterday, ignoring naysayers saying that I couldn't learn to knit in one day...and Today thanks to You and this Vidy...I"M KNITTING! Thanks So much!
VERY helpful video. Very clear, and easy to understand. This definitely got me on the right path.
NOTE: to those saying that knitting is to hard or this video didn't help: don't skim through info looking for an easy way. Once you learn it the right way it will become easy, and muscle memory will make it second nature. Your hands will do it without your brain having to think about it.
thanks for putting this up on here, it took me a few tries because i have clumbsy fingers but the instructions actually MADE SENSE to me, which is near-impossible
Thanks for putting this video up .. I haven't knitted since grammar school and your instructions and commentary are very helpful.. :) It is nice that you go slowly to teach which makes it easy to follow along, and then you show us some at the more normal speed too. Books or written instruction just can't compare. Thanks again

O my! The video is excellent. Very simple, yet detailed and at a perfect pace. Thank you for your time and dedication to teaching us begginers. Very nice. Thanks!
thank you thank you , i took a class on sunday and i wasnt sure about the cast on i just wanted to be sure to find the right one, and i did it right YAY lol going to look more owhat youve done
HELP! I have tried several different techniques, but can't quite get it right. My cast-on is always MUCH looser than my bind-off. I've tried doing a loose bind-off, but it is always TOO loose. How can I get the same tension with both? Additionally, my cast-on and bind-off look completely different. Any way to make them look the same or similar? Any suggestions are appreciated! :D
Already knew this, but didn't know the name, so now I do. Yay! Side note: another way to measure the tail is to decide the width you'd like (for quick knits like scarves and shawls) and triple that by using your fingers to pull off the width you'd like three times in a row and begin at that spot. Works for me every time. Great video, wish I'd seen it when I was first learning this. Would have been so much easier!
I'm having trouble doing this the way youve described and shown. When I do the cast on, I do the same placement of the working/tail as you do but my working yarn ends up at the end of the row, and I'm unable to knit with it. However, when I switch the placement of the working/tail, it works perfectly but I end up with a lot of extra tail. Wtf is going on?
Thank you so much!!! I have been using this method of casting on for several years, BUT I never knew that I had already completed a "knit row." No wonder some of my projects did not make sense! Thank you for your very explicit way of explaining the various knitting stitches in a very clear manner. You are the best!!!
Super helpful. Thank you so much. I am a test knitter for a local yarn shop but have only a few cast-ons in my brain. You just helped me with one more. THANKS!!!
This video is so helpful. I am just learning how to knit, and the pictures I find in books are a bit confusing. But seeing someone actually do it makes it so much more clear. Thank you so much for this, and all your other videos.
@juliaiscool49 I had to unwind my needle about 10 times before I felt comfortable with this. It just takes some time and practice to get your hand used to it, and to make sure the loops are going on correctly.
I first learned this method using two hands, and it is infinitely more difficult, so try and master it this way. You won't be sorry.
Thanks for sharing your time and expertise with us. This is an excellent tutorial in which there is not a single wasted word. So pay no attention to those two ill-mannerd louts WESTENDCAL and LAURADEBUNBURY, both of whom clearly suffer from pathological senses of entitlement.
THANK YOU for this wonderful video!!!!!!!! I bought my first knitting needles last night and I'm teaching this to myself this morning...your method is the only one I have been able to understand. Can't wait to watch your other videos!!
I wanted to cry before I got to this video for casting on. This helped me so much. I knit so rarely these days and when I do I forget everything. THANK YOU!
Thank you, thank you, thank you for this great video! I appreciate that you added the comment about the fact that this will count as the first row of knitted stitches, a detail which is often omitted from other instructions on this method.
Thank you. I must have watched a dozen videos on the same thing before I found yours, and yours is the most clear I've seen, you showed and explained it simply and clearly, and after a few minutes practicing I could do it no problem. 5 stars.
I don't know how to pull it through, it's the only problem I'm having. I don't understand what I'm doing wrong, there's no loop like there is when you do it.
Your videos are GREAT! The way you have the camera makes it super easy to do, the visual stays the same from your hands to mine so there is no confusion. Plus you seem really patient and easy going. Thank you so much for making these videos!!!
Great video. You're a fantastic teacher. Thank you a bunch for posting this. I just have one question, what do you do with the remaining yarn when you're done with the cast-on? I'd appreciate it if you would let me know, thank you!
Yeah! I know how to knit, but not to how to cast on, thank you! My daughter is learning to knit as a coping mechanism for her eating disorder. Thank you for helping me help her!

try again; you may not be properly looping the stitches- watch carefully where her needle goes, and make sure you have extra yarn for the tail.
