I desperately want to start playing slide guitar but figure I better get better at normal tuning etc. first. But at what level should I be before I start trying slide?
Nah, go straight to slide. it's never too early. open tunings are a totally different game, and they're a lot easier to work with from personal experience. Go for it.
Was tryin' to get the worm out of a bottle of Mezcal one night back in the '70s, bottle broke and the damn thing's been stuck on my finger ever since.
this is great.... 5 star..not enough open g tuition is shown on the u but i agree with choupek a little slower and front on camera shots would help me become a much better player... thanks for sharing with us all.....good man
If this helps, the core of the 3 turnarounds I'm playing in this clip use the following chord shapes starting at the 3rd fret, then playing at the 2nd and first fret:
Turnaround 1:
index finger across 1st and 2nd strings
Turnaround 2:index finger on 4th string second finger on 2nd string, third finger on the 3rd string at the 4th fret( like a D chord shape in standard tuning).Turnaround 3:Index finger 6th string, second finger on the 4th string.
what kind of amp is that in the background... never mind - it's a kenmore

@piddlefish Not sure of the brand, but it always seems to run really hot. It really cooks on my cover version of "Home on the range" too.

Very cool turnarounds. I'll be adding some of these to my arsenal! Thanks for sharing.

The player counts the most. Not the guitar :)

Your new to slide, congrats! Take a listen to John Lee Hooker, Robert Johnson, Eric Sandrinas their to me my favorite slide guitarists.

I like the turn-arounds, nicely played, but they don't comprise much slide, just seems like regular turnarounds with a slide note at the end. :(
