Don't know why you all haters here. I've gotten a chance to drive one HS250h for 2wks. And I found out that this is one great car. Unlike most magazine found that this is not a great mpg car. I've personally observed about 780km per tank. And to fill only cost me $37. And the standard eco mode is quite boring to drive but it maximizes the fuel economy. however with a touch of the power mode it turns the car into a completely different animal.

ECO mode is to turn of the air conditioning and go slow and save gas and get a much higher gas mileage

PWR mode is to maximize speed/performance but still get good gas mileage

This is pretty sweet actually. For those of us who want a decent looking car (this is much better looking than the prius imo) with decent performance, and reasonable gas mileage (even though I know its nowhere near that of the prius's) this would be a good option. I doubt many people would realize that this was a hybrid on the road. Personally, thats what I'd want. Gas-electric hybrid technology just is not a very cost-effective solution to improving fuel efficiency . Smaller engines, including the exciting new turbo diesel technology out there, and reducing weight during the design phase could well be where being "green" should start..

I think that is why jargon like "carbon footprint" and such is starting to be used liberally in attempting to sell these rather dubious overpriced and under performing vehicles.

Ridiculous vehicle. Lexus are typically distinguishable as Lexus. This thing is bulbous, awkward looking. The front looks like the new Honda Insight. The rear look like a Mitsubishi. The general shape looks like the new Corolla. It's probably the ugliest Lexus ever sold in the US. Fuel economy is only great if you do nothing but city driving at 35mpg. If you commute on the highway, you're better off with a traditional gas powered sedan. My '06 Kia Optima gets over 34mpg. Hybrids kiss my butt.

I think for a starting model it is nice indeed. The interior to me looks very nice to touch but does look a little busy. 189hp is enough to live with for the average consumer. My only gripe is the rear altezza tail lights, makes it look a bit cheap, and it does closely resemble a Corolla.

They shouldnt have made a HS sedan, insted they shouldave added this hybrid to the growing IS line up.

The HS250 doesnt look nice from the rear and like a COROLLA from the side (which isnt a bad thing), but it doesnt look different enough.

Lexus should really try linking its high performance hybrids with Direct shift gearboxes. That way you can have nice old gearchanges.
