@theantiredneck thats just ridicolous. the faster the plane flies, the more lift the remaining wing will get, hence pushing one side of the plane up and generating an unrecoverable roll. one wing flying is only possible going knife edge all the way to the ground.
This happens more than U would think thats why they include nylon wing bolts in kits instead of steel, the nylon grabs a little and has a lock nut effect, if you use steel or stainless hardware you need to build a little liquid thread lock in the threads so it has some grip to it!
@Titusatreides: This wasn't a manned plane...it was a model at the 2009 Tucson Aerobatic Shootout. It's radio controlled. There are other videos on Youtube that show the entire wing-ripping-off sequence, if you look. You should look at a few of the other Shootout videos...they are truly amazing fliers!
Awesome flying skills. Done this many times myself on a simulator but never had to do it for real. He's joined the "one wing landing" club started by Bill Hempel! Bloody nice effort!
What you talkin' about Willis? V1 wing for sure!

The engine is so powerful that losing one wing doesn't matter. Great piloting though.

You just need more speed so the tail can counter the torque the one wing is putting on it!

If you have a long runway like 700 feet or something you can land normally and level! planes can fly on one wing level they just need more airspeed!

Two questions:
1) Is this some cgi? (please, take no offense)
2) in case it was'nt, was it a manned plane? Thanks, it's a great video anyway ;)

@bjzq8 Master skills then... i wonder if this can be, even if it was only on paper, achieved with a "normal" wingspan plane.
