LOL when I saw this come up I thought it was going to be an old 70's public information film. One way to stop cigarette butts is to make the mouth piece edible so when people have finished their fags just eat the rest. Maybe make them out of edible paper or sponge cake or something Heston Blumenthal comes up with.

@TheShepster80 There already is a problem. They're even more unsightly than a lot of other litter, they make places look scruffy and so encourage druggies, and little kids keep picking them up (and we know little kids like to put things in their mouths)

If Keep Britain Tidy spent the money used for films like this on outdoor ashtrays (as they do in my town) instead, there wouldn't be even a tiny problem. You can't put a lit fagend in a litter bin, so what are you supposed to do with it? As responsible smokers we are not - yet - criminals, so please don't behave as if we are.

We have hundreds of cigarette bins in our city and they are never used. They onl;y require emptying once every few months because there is so little in them....smokers prefer to drop their butts on the floor for people like me to pick up. cigarette butts represent 50% of all litter we pick up. @millyfromhutton I believe you. Smokers, in my experience, are extremely incondierate, and even break the law, standing smoking in doorways when it's raining instead of outside or waiting
