Also, The phage is fairly common in Russian medicine, A lot of what is considered be a fatal here in Australia could be cured with a simple sewer dwelling phage
@dushiemcbag Haha, I'll have to rent it or something. I've seen it / heard of it. :U Haven't had the time to venture into games / blind buy some things.
sorry to choke up your channel with comments but i just thought of one more thing: the "ash" in ash lake doesn't refer to ashes. the connection lies between the great archtrees under the surface of the world of dark souls and yggdrasil, the tree in norse mythology that supports the world. specifically, yggdrasil is an ash tree. the connection is further established by the dragon's existence there, parallel with the figure of niddhoggir in norse mythology, who gnaws at the roots of yggdrasil.
@MrApol Its okay, I love this kind of stuff. And I'm procrastinating right now. So this is great. And holy crap. That's fantastic. (About the trees) It makes me think of "the tree of life" that was established in tons of other early religions. And yeah, the soliare and Gwyn definitely have an Icarus Daedalus relationship almost. I sometimes wander what exactly it was that the soliare destroyed (historical document - but of what?)
@Quelaag well, from the item descriptions at least it says he destroyed the "annals", like you said, some historical document. it had to have been something more significant than just a physical document though, it's almost as if he's been erased from history itself, even the statue of him that should be in the area you fight ornstein and smough is missing. gonna go out on a limb here, but it's almost like he destroyed something like an akashic record.
in occultism the akashic records are a sort of super-dimensional archive that contains the totality of history, both past and present. still though, this is all just conjecture. the reason for it interests me far more. at this point i'm guessing it had something to do with gwyn's handling of the new londo situation. still, the game doesn't provide hard info regarding it.
@MrApol Ahh well like I mentioned in the comments below, he destroyed the document after his father had "died". Although - now that I think of it, its kind of strange that his monument had been established. It was like the Gods knew he had died in the first kiln without actually being there? Maybe he knew he was going to die? Hmhmhm
@Quelaag you should! my friend james howell is playing through dark souls now - he's the guy who wrote the ridiculously awesome killer 7 plot analysis on gamefaqs. i'm waiting with bated breath for his inevitable analysis of dark souls. you guys should team up on it or something.
@MrApol Yeah! I'd love to read it too. I definitely have a lot to fix on some of my videos regarding some plot holes or just shit that isn't really explained well enough. I also found that there are a lot of areas that aren't elaborated enough on - which is kind of a bummer considering they're in the game. :C Primarily the Nito plotline.
@MrApol Yeah, I'd say the same - it all doesn't just happen in one scenario. He leaves that miracle on his father's tomb before he leaves. So the destruction of the document is after Gwyn left for the first Kiln - but before Gwynevere abandoned Arno Londo with the rest of the deities since there is an item that said he was exiled by the Gods - meaning not just Gwyndolin.
continued: you could easily say the events of dark souls signify a massive upheaval in the dynamics of that world, equating with ragnarock. death of the sun = death of gwynevere, death of the moon = death of dark sun gwyndolin or perhaps seath? in the skoll/hati connection, after these events fenrir succeeds in killing odin (gwyn). you could almost equate the player character with fenrir, but that may be stretching it. just thought i'd bring it up!
hi quelaag, glad you enjoyed the podcast. i wanted to maybe point out something. saying sif is related to fenrir is easy. when i thought about it though, beyond them being wolves it didn't really fit. however, there is another (two, in fact) wolves in norse mythology that fit almost perfectly: skoll and hati. skoll (whose name means treachery) chases the sun. hati, his brother, chases the moon. at ragnarock they eventually succeed in killing both the sun and the moon.
@MrApol Yeah, I almost wanted to say Odin = Gwyn and Izalith = Hel - but that's stretching it a bit too. :D And yeah I got the skoll artorias thing. I kind of wish there was a bit more norse mythos. Or made Izalith more kindred to sorceries / switched her location to something more kindred to new londo ruins (dark/moon). Not sure why. Maybe elaborate on the struggle Gwyn had with his child leaning more toward moon magic. Maybe that's making it too simplistic though? Hm hm hm
@Quelaag yeah, it's probably impossible to draw a complete parallel but the norse influence is definitely strong. i don't know why but i keep seeing the solaire/gwyn relationship as almost greek in nature, similar to the father/son relationship between kronos/zeus/hercules. though, the theme of son usurping (or attempting to) father is one that is found in a multitude of ancient religions.
Veridiyagoodru22 sent me here, Thank you so much for doing this! I knew there was something very special about demon souls just could not put my finger on it until now.
Seeing the mutated maiden, make me think of my Seath and Gwynevere and Priscilla. Which I never found an item connecting them, must have been a dream. What better way to strike back at at a lover/mother of your mixed child who left, then to attack her friends/followers/maidens in a very "lifetime movie" like way.
Dark Soul's needs a friendly giant Tardigrade as an npc/covenant/vendor to offset all the creepy "biology" Now my skin crawls thinking of all the stuff I can't see or fight directly.
@Quelaag Sorry it was late and my mind blanked at 4am on their true name in game. When you referred to Lovecraft and showed the Pisaca from the art book.

@Quelaag Perhaps you are right. My apologies for bringing conflict to your video. It wasn't my intent to disrupt your discussion. I'm just disappointed what SBP has been reduced to (they are likely attempting to retort my opinion of them right now. sigh... The old SB crew wouldn't give damn enough to even try in the first place). Their old material is good, if you want to dig into that. These days, though, especially with that one "voice actor" - bleh.
@matman125 :3 Its fine. Name dropping is just obnoxious. I understand that neogaf (while having great factual information) isn't the best place for discussion - which is why many people leave and join other forums like select button etc. etc. I will definitely check those podcasts out though, and thank you for the suggestion.
@matman125 any podcast with ario elami (diplo) is going to be good. i rarely bother with podcasts in general, so i can't comment on the rest, but he usually contributes quite a bit.

BioLOLogy. One thing to point out is that Indian culture, symbols, and architecture are the direct inspirations for the buildings where Buddhism prevailed, especially in south east Asia which is predominantly old school teravada Buddhism. I'm not sure what you are asking about trees growing out of ruins, but i do know (can't show pictures) that in India and southeast Asia, trees were/are used to make living bridges. They may have also been incorporated into buildings in the past.
@formlessdream I wasn't asking. I was saying that the ruins of Angkor Wat have tree roots engulfing the architecture exactly like Lost Izalith. I provided images in the description. I should have yelled that at my camera rather than using annotations.
@Quelaag A short version: Odin is the God of Gods, and Hel,Fenris and Midgardsormen are some of his biggest "foes". These are also the children of Loke - a half-god. Odin and the Gods banished these:Hel was sent to Hell,Midgardsormen was cast into the ocean, and Fenris was bound to a mountain.Hel is the ruler of Hell and Odin is the ruler of Midgard.Odin possesses many things:two ravens,a ring, wolves(Freke and Gjere). He sacrificed his eye and his body to gain knowledge(magic) and became:Allfader
I'm not an expert in norse mythology, and i haven't been following your conversation but in this video are you referring to Jormungandr (or Jormungand)? He's known as the "world serpent". I've read a little bit about it after encountering a dragon in final fantasy XI of the same name. Nearly all the enemies in FFXI are pulled from various mythologies or legends. It was fun to see a new one and find out the lore.
good videos! i see a lot of similarities between dark souls and the lord of the rings trilogy. i could go in depth about it but i dont have enough comment space. things such as geography, rings, structures, and even some characters. check it out when u can. in LOTR there is a white city called "Minas Tirith" before the third age was called "Minas Anor". it even looks like Anor Londo.
Kinda off topic but its still about symbolism ... what's your thoughts on symbolism in real life things such as money ... is it some kinda conspiracy? lol
ALSO what was the first bacteria typed creature you showed. Was it the one in blighttown?
@Quelaag ahh i see, i quickly googled bacteriophage ... it kinda sounded like you said bacteria...something...something...your audio is quite low...although you HAVE explained why, i don't blame you. And its pretty neat that they've designed a larger than life version...but i didn't really get the point of it being there...it never attacked and you get....the rite of kindling from it if i remember. Also sounds like something from the mass effect series zenophage...xenophage...genophage
@wendysnailland phage means "to devour" and is usually used to describe viruses. Geno I'm assuming is like genetics. Or something of the like - although the construction of the genophage never seemed like a virus to me. Bioware likes to pick their words poorly. :'C
