  • I like this song 'cause it's got a groove to it and nobody has done anything like it. I like fresh new music.

  • This and the cover by In Extremo are the best things :D

  • those were the days :))) rocktabulous

  • That woman is gorgeous. Freakin amazing.

  • ROCKING SONG!!

  • her hair is going to get really frizzy in that rain.

  • just read this in a book, "the bitch posse", and was kinda curious - not really my style, though, i prefer metal.

  • Oh my, I remember that I was listening to this a whole bunch of years ago...thanks for the upload! 5/5

  • man i remember the first time i heard this song ages ago...i fcking loved it!

  • This is my fave of theirs, if not then Temple of Love.

  • To me this is like watching vampires singing: nothing from "Lost Boys," "Dracula," what have you, is a tenth as atmospheric as this!

Look up "Eldritch:" HP Lovecraft was fond of this term. Coincidence? I think not!

It's not for nothing that it's called "graveyard shift," folks...

  • Theres some good shit out here in youtube land

  • Ahhhhhhh Old Kerrang :D

Amazing song though and the video is great...

  • I love this song. This is one of my favourites by them.

  • Big Classic, this song rules. Great

  • Rather have no comments instead of this bunch of BS....sorry,just sux

  • i must agree ... where do all these geeks come from?

  • Or may be that's Michael Jackson who can be described as "Pop Andrew Eldritch" instead? :)

  • It probably works on both directions

  • Jackson has changed dramaticly his style over time, Eldrich remains what he is until today. See him live and realise he lives his song. He's not a showman, he's an artist.

  • Oh, don't get me wrong, I like Eldritch more, and believe me, I'd see him live if I could. I was just nothing their physical similarities. And about him not changing his style, did I imagine that video of him wearing a white suit and beard?

  • its cut short by like 6 mins . . .

  • Igualito que David Bisbal

  • Esto es Musica de verdad nada que The Cure ... Sisters of Mercy Siempre Fue Una Banda Oscura y el carisma del cantante le da ese toque !

  • maybe best song of Sisters...

    this is darkrockgoth

    not emo,not cyberpunk...

this beatiful style not exists today

only in the 80's music do in this way

  • Back in the 80s, my live re-enactment crew used to use this as our battle music. sixty people charging down a hill into battle makes a cyberpunk moment worth every second

  • this video looks this way and yes is pompous and pretenious and "reeks of the '80's"...but then so does all of the stuff done by Jim Steinman...and that makes it so much fun...

  • In my opinion, Cyber Punk has many roots in Goth Punk of the eighties, as that is when of the greate cyber punk novels were written. Now if Cyberpunk the RPG was going it would be different thing I think

  • Hey, don't be so rude (-3), i say "may be i mistake"...Okey, they are goth.))

  • "Reptile House"?

  • I think taht is cyberpank style)) May be I mistake))

  • Cyber punk? NO NO! You are mistaken.

  • I don't know what everyone else calls them but they are definitly not emo. In the San Francisco bay area there considered 80's deathrock/goth

  • DEFINATELY NOT EMO.

DONT BE RIDICULOUS, its almost offensive to Eldritch <3

  • Bombastic, over the top, gothic hard rock - how can you not love it!

  • This song is actually pretty sweet.

The lyrics really don't make much sense when you think about them.

You can definitely hear the 80's in this.

These are just my thoughts while listening to this.

  • He wrote it about Wayne, his old guitar player.

  • The best band of the world motherfuckers!

  • They are neither. They are a British rock band.

Both those labels don't fit at all to them.

  • Of course the goth label fits them. o.o

They're gothic rock, that's what goth IS.

  • They are the Sisters of Mercy ¬¬ Where you see any emo thing in they?

  • They are totally goth. The goth subculture began in the United Kingdom during the early 1980s in the gothic rock scene, an offshoot of the post-punk genre. The Sisters of Mercy were one of the primary gothic rock bands.

  • Nice song!

It was covered by "In Extremo", too.

  • And Maryslim with Jyrki of the 69 Eyes ^^

  • No! white michael jackson looks like andrew eldritch

  • Comment removed

  • Love it. Floodland was a good era of The Sisters

  • I love SoM and whatnot but, this video just reeks of 80s cheese doesn't it?

  • point well taken nikki. Thanks.

  • my girl says this is frank black singing i think she is full of it

  • the pixies doing goth covers, that would have a lot of snark involved.... like the jesus and mary chain cover being sometimes better than the orginal song.

  • boli glava...

  • i love them!!!!

  • this song is badass. "Emo" kids, take a lesson from this kind of music as oppose to the lameness you're subjected to today. On a side note, I'll take watching this video 10x over watching that wedding dance video lighting up the web. lame.

  • You know, I've been listening to The Sisters of Mercy since middle school (early 90's for me)and I don't think I'd ever seen a music video till now....and I love them even more. It's funny, my younger sisters, in middle and high school now, are following in my footsteps, in regards to music and fashion, and everyone calls them "emo"...it drives them mad.

  • lol! I remember that dilemma in junior high. People declaring....oh, you're "new wave" or "a devil worshipper" cuz you liked siouxsie and the banshees. I'm sure your sisters will follow your original footsteps. The emo lable will die off soon for everyone I think. I'm sure they'll laugh about it later on life.

  • I thought that was gonna happen about 5-6 years ago when all of the emo bands were singing about their high school woes. I work at a concert venue, and the shows are still going strong as ever. Not defending it... I think it's the worst rock music ever created. It's even more amusing to me that most of the band members are well into their 30's, and they're still whining about being dumped in h.s.

  • Thank you! This is how the music should be played.

  • Hi realis0043, I totally agree that this song and The Sisters Of Mercy is badass. But emo kids, we all know their thinking is immature but it's not that bad, at least they spread out their true feelings at that moment, which is much better than the mindless mainstream nowadays.

Once again, this band is awesome and they still rock now. Go go Sisters Of Mercy! \m/

  • I agree with most of what you say, but disagree slightly re: emo kids. SOME of them are talking about/following their real feelings in that moment...but most of them, it seems to me, just want to whine and get attention. Not all, just most. Still, SOM is a great band, and way better than most crap that passes for music these days.

  • Yes that is a sad truth.

On the other hand, Sisters Of Mercy are awesome! First time I heard them was the song Lucretia My Reflection and I was like 'Gosh this music is ONE OF A KIND!' xD

  • This corrosion... damn corrosion. The enemy is the "Self" . Great song!

  • my fav gothic song - just legendary.....

    thx for posting.....

  • I loved this song back in 1988 when I discovered it. Went out and bought the album. It was ok, I liked "Lucretia" alot and maybe two other songs.

  • GOOD SHIT!

  • Full length required !

  • hot water

  • I just realized how much this video looks like Farscape. I wonder if the Farscape writers were fans?

  • Post apocalyptyc

    Sisters to the death !!

  • My god Andrew Eldritch is epic

  • Yes, we needed the 11 minute version!

  • The woman in the video looks to me like a mixture of bellatrix lestrange (harry potter) and Vibeke stene (Tristania) SHE looks very nice and has got a good voice.

  • michael jackson was a freaking awesome muusician

  • you fockin' idiot!!

  • Naw this is Goddamn Genius. I almost drove myself nuts listening to it as a kid trying to pick out every partk

  • How come this reminds me of the Goblin King guy in the Labyrinth? Same Era?

  • Never thought about that til now, but yeah it kinda does remind me a bit of Bowie.

  • you know he was played by David Bowie?

  • The Japs got a HUGE GOTH scene!!!

but eastern pagan myths not western ones: animism, shinto, confusionism, buddhism, and taoism instead of norse, egyptian, and celtic mythologies, (ima atheist so i dont really care) Ima fan of Dir En Grey, an awesome industrial (metal) band from there as well as Malice Mizer who are more symphonic metalheads also check out Gazzette, they are all awesome! A large goth club in Shibuya is called Tokyo Dark Castle, you might like it!

  • the musics great but the video sucks, SOM deserves better than this!

  • Reptile room?

  • Guess there wont be any Sisters of mercy tribute bands now Micheal Jackson is dead ;)

  • And as we all know, "Bela Lugosi's Dead" was a track, done on a lark, that spearheaded the whole movement. Amirite? I mean, Pete admitted as much to David Dorrell from NME.

If anything, Joy Division were be the populist "beginning" (even before Ian's suicide), but the whole scene coalesced at right about the same time in quite a few bands. Public Image Ltd., Sex Gang Children, The Birthday Party, etc.

Still, compared to them, I can't take anything away from SoM. They carried the torch.

  • I prefer the complete version but the video to this is great,

  • This video is like a scene from Mad Max :)

  • Genial arek

  • Oh I love them-original goth/industrial movement no insipid Emo-no offense but this was the nuts and bolts-I started listening to them in the l8 90s-and haven't stopped.

  • great....andrew is great.

  • If you have never heard this song, be prepared to be impressed.

This is one of my favourite songs.... but this video is of poor quality. A+++++ on the choice of music, but the visual is awkward.

  • yup...this is definitely the very beginning of gothic rock...

  • hey now,

    hey now now,

sing this corrosion to me :)

  • haha this is so cheesey, but they are good

  • love this song! its great! thanks for the ulpad. from slovakia. x

  • to charmcast, absolutely no way is this Punk, this is Goth music all the way, before you type next time , think !

  • same this band is all time goth and always goth. they have no time for punk because andrew is past the hillsof punk

  • So this is goth well maybe, its is a great song i don't usualy lable because personaly i like what others would call rock, punk ,goth, metal etc

And yes i'm thinking that this was played in both the punk gigs and the rock pubs xx

  • This band is considered the mother -band of gothic rock by quite a lot of people.

It plays a lot in gothic clubs, if that helps... :)

  • Andrew always hated that his band was pigeonholed into the "goth" niche. Labelling someone's art is never a service to them, and at worst it's an insult.

  • people will always lable or own "there " music . it may be an insult to the band and i see were your coming from. but it comes in bloody handy when you are looking for a cd in the shop to look under lables

  • Yeah, but when you're a contemporary of both Killing Joke and Siouxsie & the Banshees, it's hard to escape the labelism. It happens; it's the musical integrity that still shines through at the end of the day.

  • This is the coolest band ever.

  • This is one of there best songs but if it has to have a lable it has to be PUNK,this was played at the end of all the punk gigs years ago.this was when we all had mohekens and prettycolourd hair! (sorry for the spellings, too many glasses of wine)

  • it is more of post-punk than punk

  • Let the word spread!

  • He is just the coolest ever.

  • Yeah and is was known as 'alternative' as well.

  • although im not a fan of SOM, one has to love this bigger-than-life alternative bands of the 80s

  • I LOVE this song! It's my favorite at the moment.

  • This song is still awsome til this day.

  • Sisters of Mercy rocks I have been a fan for many years, was wondering when the younger kids were going to catch up

  • I will agree with you, although it¡s hard to label any particular genre of music... my comment is rather on the musical structure, the image presented and the concepts expressed in both of these formats.

  • I'm grateful for what YouTube offers to the world...

where else could I find a video like this, if not here...?

nowhere... one of the greatest songs ever, was demonized

and severly underrated back in the 80's,

when gothic music was better known as Dark Metal...

I'm watching this video for the first time,

and I can feel all the sweet corrosion running

through my veins deep into my brain...

... to better experience the rusty feeling and acidity

of this song, always watch it in HQ

  • goth was never known as dark metal, metal and goth have nothing in common, not even goth metal, the early goth was known as post-punk

  • THIS RULES, THIS IS MUSIC!!!

    xD

  • Industial metal is probably a more apt description, This track wouldn't be out of place on a N.I.N record.

But agreed, My Chemical romance and all the other so called Emo/Goth D'ont measure up to this.

Also, Bauhaus, The cult and Fields of the nephillim deserve a mention when you are talking of bands of substance whose music stands the test of time, You wont be reading about and listening to My Chemical Romance in twenty years time, FACT!!!

  • Star Wars Kid Action at 0:42 !!!

  • i wish more kids knew about the goth lords of the 80s. at my school you them whats your favorate goth band and they'll say something stupid like my chemical romance. they have no idea what sisters of mercy is

  • I guess this is a weird question, but what is the song actually about?

  • It's about former band members with whom the singer had a split in 1985.

  • Waver, it was a joke, genius.

  • The best Sisters of Mercy song in my opinion. Magnificent!!!!!!!!!

  • This song and video is awsome. I know they still perform live but Im wondering if the female bass player and vocalist is still with them? she is gorgeous.

  • Nope. She went back to the US and made a couple of solo albums in the 1990s. Patricia Morrison, if you want to google.

  • i completely agree patricia is gorgeous,

she is married to dave vanian of the damned

  • hits video is awesome and Andrew looks hot lol

  • Sisters of Mercy are releasing their 3 X cd album of leonard cohen songs soon - promised for ages it is going to be called Some girls wander by mistake - strange title as it is a line from a leonard cohen song already used for a SoM compilation.

  • i have that album, had it for ages, its amazing!!!

  • My God, I remember myself standing before the "indie sales guy" in the record store, singing that song so he would tell me by who it was... back in the days before MTV, youtube and all that. Boy, I feel old! ;)

  • lol hey m8, i know the hell what you mean...feel old too now :)) (but its not a bad feeling)

  • Come on kaleba...Andrew can sing and well....I have my doubts about Manson--he growls.

  • Indeed! Andrew`s a singer,that`s for sure-and quite a good researcher and songwriter,too. kaleba,Marilyn himself says he doesn`t really sing-doesn`t need to,still a good act!Personally, I think the comparison between these 2 a bit weird,apples&kiwanis,you know? Doesn`t matter, weirds ok, hehe

  • Dosnt get much better than this! Anybody know of any gigs going near future?

  • doesn`t look good, I`m very sorrry to say! not even showcases or small clubs...

  • Guys, that's like glam rock... ;-)

  • It's pretty cool but i prefer In Extremo's cover

  • I agree with you, but I like this version as well. They did a really good job as far as covers go.

  • Hahahahaha....love it.

  • Andrew Eldritch = Awesome. SoM released some amazing songs, and I have seen that they have inspired a few generations since!

I have a silly proposition! See how Andy twirls and flexes his walking stick? I wonder how much oomph that practice gave him regarding combat situations!

I mean, I'd kinda like to see a video game based on a goth-industrial fighting league...

Andrew could be one of the fighters, wielding his walking stick, and others could have varied styles.

    Boss shit, yeah!?

  • try the charlie`s angels films the 2 new ones. Both starr a guy you´ll like incl. walking stick&fighting techniques.Played the main carakter in the remake of Ben,too...

  • Comment removed

  • I don't consider myself "Goth", but I heard this song on Ishkur's Guide, and it's prooty awesome.

  • Only thing that tops this is the ull album version of the song. To think I used to get done up to head out listening to Floodland, lol.

  • Back in the day when kerrang played good music...ahh, i love this band :)

  • I love this, I have it on single somewhere

  • Star Wars Kid at :41!!!

  • that takes me back - top tune
