where is a good place to get copper foil shielding tape..ebay is alittle expensive...can you get it buy the roll? (without having to sell a kidney!)...will aluminum foil tape, used on air ducts and air trunk lines in the HVAC industry suffice? (15 dollars a roll at Lowe's) any help is appreciated, thanks.
@badbulletvideo Thanks, but believe me, I haven´t planed it at all but last minute plans. The result is I completely forgot to record the assembling part. :-)
@PauloEPedroso eh uma golden strat hahahaha x)(modelo exato, deus n me respondeu =-().
@takusamadotcom Hi, I didn't notice it was a conductive cooper foil. Anyway, I believe I would have put some soldering on it because this is not the kind of job you want to do twice. :-) Thanks
@buckethead30001 Hi, sorry taking a bit long to answer. I've heard about people using this kind of material to shield a guitar but I would never try it. It should be not easy to glue it on the wood and it's not meant for that but for cooking turkey :-)
Try buying a few meters on eBay, you won't regret it.
what is the name of the cement you applied on the hole?
i wish i have those kinds of pick ups :( huhuhu....
im using a generic guitar with generic pick-up and my guitar sounds really bad... and really noisy.. although the shielding helped put out some noise still its noisy... buzzy buzzy buzz buzz... :(
@hombrebuen Hello. I don't know how to name the cement in english, it's some kind of finishing cream for wood. Alike the ones used on brick walls before painting.
About your pups, while they're buzzing, turn yourself in several directions relative to your amp. Like in front of it, then start turning until he's on your side. Try several positions. If the buzz goes back and forth I believe it's the pups. Otherwise it might be a bad cable.
oh.. :) thanks a lot, i'll try to look for one of those on the store :) and ill use it with the scratches and some holes on my guitar :(
and about my pups yepyep im doing that sometimes... and when i get the right position i can't move anymore because a single move would make the noise back again.. :)\
well if only i could buy a good pup... but i dont really have the money.... and pups are soooo expensive specially here in the philippines..
@hombrebuen Well, you can always rewire the pups, I have never done that and I don't know how to do it. All I know it's not an easy task and you can ruin them or make them worse. There's a little science behind it and I really don't know anything about it. My advice is, save some money and order new pups on eBay, it worths the hassle.
Very nice informative vid--thanks friend! I'm also on strat type--by Vintage-brand (before the nowaday's reissued models). Makes very nice sounds! One curiosity is that on some positions the potentiometers would be very active on the first quarter of the active zone...
@hallobaaaby Hello, I'm sorry taking this long to answer. And yes, the potentiometers have this nice feature. Thanks to that Gilmour was able to make that seagull sound using a wah pedal connected backwards and moving only one potentiomenter.
@AlphaQGoode Hi, the first one is The Fletcher Memorial Home from The Final Cut album. The second one is called Marooned from The Division Bell album. Both from Pink Floyd.
@hafstrat Fender is doing this a lot now with the routing. It is called the swimming pool route. It is so the buyer can customize with humbuckers later on.
Hey there, my guitar its got a hb in the bridge and the neck, it's a peavey predator plus exp - do you know how much it would cost for the music shop to shield a guitar? it is right to say that if a guitar is shielded that nothing will interfere with it weather it has single coil or humbuckers? Hope you can answer my question :) btw your video was really cool and you seem to know what you're doing, very professional :)
Hi, I don't know how much it would cost. I don't know much about electronics and I can't tell weather it will reduce or kill interference, all I know is the single coils get more silent than before. I researched a lot on how to shield it, spoke with some friends and learned a lot on the fly. Thanks.
@shortbusheros4 Hello. The soldering is to ensure the overlaping foil tapes are really connected. Some models has conductive adhesive, thus they don't need soldering as both sides of the foil are conductive. No matter how you do it, you have to ensure the whole cavity is connected. Did that answer your question? Thanks for watching, Paulo.
It seems like half the videos that make reference to Gilmour, and Pink Floyd are from Brazil. It's cool to know that people in that country have great musical taste and passion.
I don't think that you need to use solder on that copper shield... That guitar was already shielded with paint... I guess you could never be to sure...=)
@stratman7000 Hi, I don't think one would do a cosmetic paint the inner cavity of a guitar, but the thing is, regardless of the conductive paint, the shield was not established. There was a hole in the body to house the 9v battery (I don't understand too much of electronics but I read the shield should be totally closed), there was no electric communication between the cavity and pickguard and the pickups were not ground wired to the body.
Yes, you do need to do this once the ground wire should be in touch with the shielding. I soldered a metal ring in the wire and then I screwed it within the wood (wood screw). Just put the screw and twist it until it starts to move down the wood.

Why do you connect copper foil with solder, if copper foil is conductive??
I think it is a must only for alluminium foil... or I'm wrong??
