Coast Guard Expeditionary Warfare Units are nothing new, but admittedly, they are maturing through a metamorphosis of circumstances which are influenced by not only world events, but also by the development of like units emerging within other branches of the military. As the process matures the roles will eventually become more clearly defined. Growing pains are to be expected. And posturing of OER motivated individuals within their ranks will continue to be a pain in the ass for the ranks.
Things got pretty lame once "Blue Coast Guard" got involved. We are not the MSSTs or MSRT "deploying" to the Marriott Residence Inn to do a security zone at a Blue Angles air show. Training has suffered significantly since the more sensitive Coast Guard (Blue Guard) has got involved with out program. Hope to see the DOG disappear and the PSUs allowed to do what they do best... cheers to the poster here- 303!!! That's original PSU roots!!!
I'd say talk to your local recruiter, but they'd be so busy blowing smoke up your kilt you probably wouldn't get a straight answer.
Truth is, it's constantly evolving, and is different depending on rate. Because their function is to establish a 360 degree perimeter of security for any given asset, training includes everything from urban warfare to battlefield assaults, to assault boat tactics. Basic asset protection, both offensive and defensive. A fun time to be had by all!
