@hemroidalrampage He's why I watch/subscribe to FLD. If it wasn't for Leo, I'd be pouring gasoline on Alex Roy and lighting him on fire with exhaust from a Top Fuel dragger.
@12gaugebleachdrinker Hah, definitely, Leo IS the integrity and the glue that holds FLD together. If it wasn't for him, they'd be like Alex's left eyebrow (chopped in half)
if ticket prices are 380 per person for 3 days, and people can eat 70 dollars worth of food in those 3 days, that's 450 bucks per person. that's almost half of the costs to run the race yes? how much of anything is funded by ticket prices alone? if it was, a baseball game wouldn't have advertisements surrounding the entire field, vendors vending, beer being sold, people buying memorabilia, and private investors giving money to make the place better. same goes for this. easy money maker.
What the hell? Austin has built a purpose F1 circuit, has its in 2012 and the economy to cover it. Why all the F1 in N.J. coverage and nothing about Texas on FLD or Shakedown?
Granted, racing is a business. But there is too much "business" and too little "sport". Profits are a side effect doing a great job. Not the main reason. Play the game, play it right, and and the money will come.
US racing fails because it is second fiddle to int'l racing and is largely non-competitive. Grand-Am (LMS), Trans-Am (WTCC), and INDY/CART (F1) need to be at least as serious as the NFL, NBA, and MLB such that no one in the US thinks of int'l series.
Not sold on the NJ idea. I've loved F1 all my love and love the idea of a race with the NY skyline in the background. But it just won't work. Mark my words, it won't last 10 years.
Thank you Leo But 'The Grand Prix of America', me thinks we need a better name... how about - The 'Guido Grand Prix'. - The 'It Smells like Jersey Grand Prix'. - The 'Hey! It's Not New York, but at least it cheaper Jersey Grand Prix'. - The 'Nookie Grand Prix!!!'. PS: Also "The Jersey economy is perfect for the Bernie model" This from the Governor that wants to kill teacher, cops and firemen pensions cause their killing the economy. How about.. The 'Fat Jersey Governor Bastard Grand Prix'.
looks like the mafia finally got on the same page and decided to let this thing go down in jersey! thats where the money is coming from leo, DUH!! lol
Oh so the race in jersey writes jokes about its self? College humor said the same about the iPad and what happened?! Everybody loves it! Good and interesting episode though, Leo
hahaha "in fact we're so screwed up, we get two grand prix!" you do make a good point though leo. if new jersey economy is already down where are they going to find the money to actually fund the race?
leo. Are you against NJF1? That is what it sounded like. All i heard was you making fun of those NJ meat heads. Are you saying the race is impossible, like it int going to happen? please clarify.
@DanFrederiksen You're forgetting that major of visitors will come from wealthy Manhattan - this GP is not about NJ residents - it's all for New Yorkers. Also it's a boost in hotel base and other entertainment this area is lacking in. And finally the property values will jump high = more taxes for the local towns. Let's wait few years and see how much those town will change thanks to F1.
Yeah, it's only $1,000 average per person to get 100k spectators to go into $100 million. So, get 2,000 VIPs to pay an average of $10k, and 8,000 pseudo VIPs to pay $5k each, and you're 60% of the way there already.
Seriously, New Jersey can make a killing on this. Imagine how they can nail the out-of-towners on traffic violations, and inflated parking fees!
It's not meant to add up Leo what we learn in school is about profit and losses but when it comes to Politics that doesn't apply. Any growth in motorsport I am for it I don't care if it doesn't make money as long as I am entertained.
you're forgeting about the money that the teams spend while they are staying there. hotels, tourism parties etc. i mean these guys will be putting a good amount of money into the local economy. plus you cant forget there will be a good amount of higher class people coming from outa state.
While I want to be glad that the US has two GPs, I also share the same skepticism Leo does about this race. The fact that this was put together by politicians and a shady businessman just leaves me...unsure if I'm honest. Also, has there always been that kind of divide between New Jersey and New York?
I'm pretty sure that there will be at least one race happening, then the officials will realize how out of control the expenses are and bail, screwing over everyone involved.
Leo stop being sarcastic and say that your glad that there is a nj GP. Im happy. Its 20-30 minutes from my house. Also f1 didnt have to come to america if they wanted to.
@lamdo23tech I am glad there will be a GP in NJ next to NYC where I live. Because for that weekend all the foreigner tourists will be across the river and my wife + I will have NYC to ourselves.
You don't think NJ / NY natives will be able to afford that race, do ya? $360 per ticket. I know a guy that paid $700 for a Sunday Montreal grandstand seat! Besides, Yankees + Mets play in June! Ya know, real sports! More sarcasm! Jokes! Sorry. Fun for me. Thanks!
I heard Nascar wanted to race in NYC, hmmmm, Nascar to another road course? Na, All the rednecks would complain since Dale Jr can't win on a road course.

@Goldsack Actually, go back a few SD shows [and Google deeper into our inventory, pls] as we did shows along those lines. Promo message here - It pays to watch every week! Just saying. Thanks!
