  • that's dumb cause with Canada wit 450,000 u really think that it will only be 100,000

  • an the race is sapose to hold 250,000 people dumb ass

  • this guy suck to much penis i have bin to the Canada grand Prix 17 times and Indy and im only 19 and when i am there i see people from all over the world people love f1 so being right next to NYC why not attend the race

  • this guys annoying.

  • What the fcuk are you ramblimg about???? What a winey voice. too.

  • AWESOME!!!!!!!

  • hey leo, on behalf of nj - "screw you"

  • fuck

  • when he said in the beginning "when we come back..." i thought "What??!!!?! COMMERCIALS?"

  • someone explain why there's two grand prix's in america?

  • @Capstickk there isnt, I think he's referring to the old Indianapolis Grand Prix.

Its always one GP per country, except Italy at one point of history, not anymore obviously.

  • Haha, Leo's soapbox is always entertaining

  • hehe, Leo and your math =)

Stick to being awesome with cars, Leo!

    j/k <3

  • this guy looks like he's from new jersey, don't be haten

  • damn leo can i go with u bro?

  • Leo you Da man ! Lot's of great info.

  • so is the pit stop going to have a body dump too?

  • The NJ GP would be a 10 hour shorter drive than the Austin race... I'd rather go to texas.

  • @TheFoyer13 It's a bit longer than Monaco I believe.

  • Good show as always Leo

  • leos a good guy

  • @hemroidalrampage He's why I watch/subscribe to FLD. If it wasn't for Leo, I'd be pouring gasoline on Alex Roy and lighting him on fire with exhaust from a Top Fuel dragger.

  • @12gaugebleachdrinker Hah, definitely, Leo IS the integrity and the glue that holds FLD together. If it wasn't for him, they'd be like Alex's left eyebrow (chopped in half)

  • if ticket prices are 380 per person for 3 days, and people can eat 70 dollars worth of food in those 3 days, that's 450 bucks per person. that's almost half of the costs to run the race yes? how much of anything is funded by ticket prices alone? if it was, a baseball game wouldn't have advertisements surrounding the entire field, vendors vending, beer being sold, people buying memorabilia, and private investors giving money to make the place better. same goes for this. easy money maker.

  • Leo, if a fastest lap is to be set in the McLaren Mp4-12C at Nurburgring , you should be the driver! You're like Jenson Button on acid!

  • What the hell? Austin has built a purpose F1 circuit, has its in 2012 and the economy to cover it. Why all the F1 in N.J. coverage and nothing about Texas on FLD or Shakedown?

  • TEXAS F1 2012!!!!!!!! nuff said ya'll

  • Granted, racing is a business. But there is too much "business" and too little "sport". Profits are a side effect doing a great job. Not the main reason. Play the game, play it right, and and the money will come.

US racing fails because it is second fiddle to int'l racing and is largely non-competitive. Grand-Am (LMS), Trans-Am (WTCC), and INDY/CART (F1) need to be at least as serious as the NFL, NBA, and MLB such that no one in the US thinks of int'l series.

  • Not sold on the NJ idea. I've loved F1 all my love and love the idea of a race with the NY skyline in the background. But it just won't work. Mark my words, it won't last 10 years.

  • SOFA KING = Aqua Teen Hungry Force episode.

  • Thank you Leo But 'The Grand Prix of America', me thinks we need a better name... how about - The 'Guido Grand Prix'. - The 'It Smells like Jersey Grand Prix'. - The 'Hey! It's Not New York, but at least it cheaper Jersey Grand Prix'. - The 'Nookie Grand Prix!!!'. PS: Also "The Jersey economy is perfect for the Bernie model" This from the Governor that wants to kill teacher, cops and firemen pensions cause their killing the economy. How about.. The 'Fat Jersey Governor Bastard Grand Prix'.
  • looks like the mafia finally got on the same page and decided to let this thing go down in jersey! thats where the money is coming from leo, DUH!! lol

  • Oh so the race in jersey writes jokes about its self? College humor said the same about the iPad and what happened?! Everybody loves it! Good and interesting episode though, Leo

  • fuck jersey, than wtf is the point of having auston build a fucking track

  • @jbilla713 they still get that race too, just cuz he didnt meantion it doesnt mean theyre not racing there

  • my head know hurts from trying to understand all that

  • sofa king gp, Leo I love you

  • Screw profit. The Australian GP hasn't made one in 5 years lol

  • hahaha "in fact we're so screwed up, we get two grand prix!" you do make a good point though leo. if new jersey economy is already down where are they going to find the money to actually fund the race?

  • Bernie ecclestone tried with Graham Hill and failed to get a race in the area. A long long time ago.

    I hope it works.

  • LOL "we so screwed up we get two grand prix"

  • Why couldn't they do a F1 in Aspen,Colorado high altitude and tight turns. Google earth independance pass and you will see. FLD is epic!!!!!

  • Comon really do Otto Mann and Ralph Wiggum work for FLD?

  • no this means New Jersey Grand Prix = error ?

  • 360 is lot of money how about more like 100 or 120.

  • @GhostCell07 $120 per day with access to any grand stand you want? That's not much - compare with Montreal.

  • leo. Are you against NJF1? That is what it sounded like. All i heard was you making fun of those NJ meat heads. Are you saying the race is impossible, like it int going to happen? please clarify.

  • 6 math majors watched this.

  • can you even get 100.000 to pay 360$ ticket fee? seems very unlikely to me.

sure it would help Jersey image if it goes well but could be expensive.

maybe time for old bernie to earn his place in hell and a new economy come around. and for F1 to go fully electric.

  • @DanFrederiksen You're forgetting that major of visitors will come from wealthy Manhattan - this GP is not about NJ residents - it's all for New Yorkers. Also it's a boost in hotel base and other entertainment this area is lacking in. And finally the property values will jump high = more taxes for the local towns. Let's wait few years and see how much those town will change thanks to F1.

  • Ahh man a F1 race outside the house sweetness HAHA

  • LEO Math FAIL! But the point stands!

  • Bernie Ecclestone takes 75% of all money taken in over the race weekend, not the profit, ALL the money that is taken in.

The guy from the Silverstone tour told me that the BRDC actually makes a loss on the grand prix every year

  • Yeah, it's only $1,000 average per person to get 100k spectators to go into $100 million. So, get 2,000 VIPs to pay an average of $10k, and 8,000 pseudo VIPs to pay $5k each, and you're 60% of the way there already.

Seriously, New Jersey can make a killing on this. Imagine how they can nail the out-of-towners on traffic violations, and inflated parking fees!

  • Seems like the NJ GP is getting a lot of buzz. Where is the buzz for COTA in Austin Tx?

  • It's not meant to add up Leo what we learn in school is about profit and losses but when it comes to Politics that doesn't apply. Any growth in motorsport I am for it I don't care if it doesn't make money as long as I am entertained.

  • $1000 is a BIT more realistic Leo. But yes, you all should chew faster. Wash it down with some concession soda and stuff your face some more.

  • This made my day.

  • math fail

  • you're forgeting about the money that the teams spend while they are staying there. hotels, tourism parties etc. i mean these guys will be putting a good amount of money into the local economy. plus you cant forget there will be a good amount of higher class people coming from outa state.

  • While I want to be glad that the US has two GPs, I also share the same skepticism Leo does about this race. The fact that this was put together by politicians and a shady businessman just leaves me...unsure if I'm honest. Also, has there always been that kind of divide between New Jersey and New York?

  • Do u really practice what u say bcause ur good at it

  • Soprano Circuit

  • I'm pretty sure that there will be at least one race happening, then the officials will realize how out of control the expenses are and bail, screwing over everyone involved.

  • is that the 3rd f1 race in usa? fuck sake!

  • @rikwatson200 nope second after austin and canada is not part of america dumb fuck

  • @ablair37 are they not racing at indy anymore? texas + NJ +indy = 3

  • @rikwatson200 They haven't been at indy since 2007, I believe. Bernie says they will NEVER go back there.

  • @yellow1fox22 i stand corrected

  • @rikwatson200 nope they not raced there for 5 years due to low turn out

  • So Leo is not buying this? No GP in NJ? ... I hope you are wrong Leo.

    Awesome as usual Leo.

  • Leo stop being sarcastic and say that your glad that there is a nj GP. Im happy. Its 20-30 minutes from my house. Also f1 didnt have to come to america if they wanted to.

  • @lamdo23tech I am glad there will be a GP in NJ next to NYC where I live. Because for that weekend all the foreigner tourists will be across the river and my wife + I will have NYC to ourselves.

You don't think NJ / NY natives will be able to afford that race, do ya? $360 per ticket. I know a guy that paid $700 for a Sunday Montreal grandstand seat! Besides, Yankees + Mets play in June! Ya know, real sports! More sarcasm! Jokes! Sorry. Fun for me. Thanks!

  • BOSS!!!!!!!

  • Very funny. Every statement. Love it.

  • I heard Nascar wanted to race in NYC, hmmmm, Nascar to another road course? Na, All the rednecks would complain since Dale Jr can't win on a road course.

  • I cant wait for the Indian GP!

  • It's fu£$ing ridiculous that so many new f1 tracks are being planned and built. for two reasons. 1 - WE'RE IN A RECESION! 2. I feel it will ultimately hurt the sport, so many tracks runs the risk of destroying the heritage.

  • intresting show but given recent events a more general look at the entire future of motorsport is what I was expecting.

  • @Goldsack Actually, go back a few SD shows [and Google deeper into our inventory, pls] as we did shows along those lines. Promo message here - It pays to watch every week! Just saying. Thanks!

  • An F1 race will be good for America. Maybe Americans will get into better handling cars after they see something besides people racing in circles or a straight line.

  • Good stuff as always Leo, but there's a grand prix in 2 days.. I only heard you talk about a grand prix in 2 years...

  • @podiceps ?? Some viewers think I talk too much GP. Promo message here - It pays to watch every week! Just saying. Thanks!

  • @LeoParente Well, I'm not surprised some think you talk to much GP, I suppose most of your viewers are from the US. I for one cannot wait for the NJ GP, F1 could do with a bit more cow bell, I mean street circuits! Anyways, I appreciate your coverage of racing what ever the series is, I like racing, it's as simple as that. Friday is not Friday unless there's Shakedown, so the thanks go to you Leo!

  • They will get enough sponsors to bring it in look a Houston their building a whole new track for their race.

  • Great Video- I doubt a GP in the US will ever work. Maybe for 1-2 years, then it will get canceled. The US does not have a tradition, a fan base or any understanding or appreciation for F1. The only city in North America that can host an F1 is Montreal.

Austin will fail and NJ will fail.

In the Americas the only other countries that have a good fan base and love for F1 are Argentina and Brazil.

  • you are only counting the money earnt from ticket sales, if sponsors also invest, it might just ad up ;)

  • @SUPASIXTEEN Think not. Sorry. Track sponsorship / signage dollars go to Bernie.

Humpy was right - Tickets, Event Naming rights [+ BTW am being very generous with 5-10MM dollars for naming, really think 1-3MM dollars per yr], consession sales.....Done. Maybe if Humpy goes all promo like he can + they create stand-alone events that get cost-plus sponsors 2 get the race more cash. But....

Hindrey compares NJ to Austin as 'pennies vs dollars' to make the event happen, but still.

  • @LeoParente wow... didn't get that, well then your question is pretty relevant, who the h*ll is going to pay if there is no public funding? btw thanks for replying :)

  • Leo !! u are awesome !! u are aware of Malaysia's political situation !!

yea, it is kinda messed up in Sepang International Circuit now !

  • awesome SHAKEDOWN, Leo

  • There is no way that the race will pay off for New Jersey citizens. DerekD taxes will be going up to pay for the weekend. Good in theory but the reality is different.

  • On this episode of Shakedown: Leo learns math!

  • nothing on Simoncelli?

  • @ionsunteu We paid respects to Marco on Monday on FLD.

  • @LeoParente saw that, still, i was sort of expecting something on the dangers of driver error in racing

  • Austin, Texas 2012

  • Leo! Good one!

  • Great show as always

  • what happens if there is a crash? will some lucky kid run upstairs and find vettels front wing resting on his bed like a present from the F1 parts fairy?

  • DEREK D should be the macot!!!!

  • This new joisey GP is a horrible track.

  • Leo gettin' funky on da mic like a ol' batch-a-collard greens

  • So math is not FLD's strong point...

  • This guy talks like someone just kicked him in the balls

  • @art78570 Which means I'd be a ventriloquist when I kick YOU in the balls?

  • @LeoParente i dont get it... 8=======D~~~~

  • I still don't see how this is really going to work. Just wait till all the property owners pitch a fit. Or maybe it will totally transform the area and it will become the next Monaco GP... hopefully the 2nd one.

  • shoot, i'd love having a GP going in front of my house for 3 days. i'd camp on the roof!

  • This guy is making a valid point... but he's being a total ass and offending everyone who lives in NJ. It's stupid people like this douche... that keep the bad stereotype of NJ going.

  • @admx94 I swear I did NOT make anything up. Not one thing [including the back-door story]. The Sorvino dudes were there. That lady said exactly what I said, in the same intonation, I imitated. And Gov Christie's mic work / presentation was somewhere between a talk show host and car dealer. So, it is what it was. Jersey lives. Sorry. Douche back at ya!

  • i watch this video, just to remove it from my subscription box. fingers on chalk board, this guy.

  • Actually, Jersey might really benefit from the GP. Look at what the Western US GP did for Long Beach back in the day. Long beach was a languishing port & industrial city until the GP came along.

  • @aemst Yes. true. The 1st F5000 and GP races had cars speeding by strip clubs + porno theaters.

Now look at Long Beach! You have to go at least 2 miles away from the track to find them.

PS - They're in Carson near the oil refineries!

  • will the snooki be the official mascot of the circuit?

  • @errorcode99 no its pualy d

    jalopnik.com/5852369/formula-one-coming-to-new-jersey-in-2013

    :)

  • @errorcode99

on the contrary, I think her figure will serve as the track layout, both elevations and curves.

  • F1 New Jersey!! F1! F1 New Jersey!! F1! F1 New Jersey!! F1!

  • Math wins again.

  • Comment removed

  • @roflcopterofchaos wellhave two GP's

  • @awesomenoob6281 well....why don't we just come out and say "we're america and we are fucked........" i like the idea of f1 in america, but not in this way....

  • HELLO FLD!!!

  • Fourth! Nope chuck testa

  • second wooop

  • FIRST!!!!

    Dont say

    "You're Gay!!"

  • @BassHelal Why do I half expect everyone to say "You're Gay!!" when I told them not to?!

    lol

  • @disengagejam OMG!

Thank you so much for doing what I didnt expect you to do!
