  • He was good....I think I see Steve Perry standing back next to the speakers behind the chick dancin...waiting to take over!!! hehehe!!!

  • Holy friggin cow. I love the studio version of this song, which was this singers' audition. I didn't know that they performed live and recorded it. GREAT

  • This is a great song. It should be on the greatest hits album.

  • When robert was in his prime, I think robert was better than perry without a doubt!! Robert could hit higher notes and hold them longer. Robert's brother has a channel on youtube, called profanatio, check it out everybody. Robert Fleischman fucking rules and made journey what it is today, a total success with timeless music. Robert, god bless you, you are journey!!!!

  • Sweet song - great to see it sung by the guy who wrote it. Cheers Dude!

  • Fascinating to watch. No doubt about it...R.F has a great voice.

  • Children of the corn sno, Robert was singing in JOURNEY, yes jOURNEY, before Perry was in the band. Robert did one tour and one album with journey. Learn your history before spouting out incorrect information.

  • correct me if im wrong but robert didnt put out an album with journey. he just wrote some songs that steve sang for infinity

  • Just kidding ;)

  • This isnt Journey, Steve Perry was the original singer

  • What a voice

  • This guy sounds nothing like Robert Plant. Just because he hit high notes did not make him a Plant clone. Are people that stupid?? Greg Rolie had a great voice as well - he was Santana's lead singer for fuck's sake. Why did'nt they just have him be the front guy and hire another keyboard player who could help the writing process?

  • Nice voice. According to Herbie Herbert.. The band got rid of Robert because he was a bigger prima donna than Steve Perry. Which in Herbert speak.. probably actually means.. because he was a pretty decent guy, they just didn't like him because they couldn't milk the big bucks with him at that time...sooo under the bus he went.

  • Marginal Robert Plant clone, though still cool to see.

  • Cool tune-demo version of this song is on the Journey box set.

  • I found out, that Robert Fleischman was not the orginal Journey singer. That was Gregg Rolie.

  • It didn't take a GENIUS to figure that one out!!

  • You are 1/2 right. Robert was their 1st official lead singer. Journey's stuff before that was mostly insturmental. The record company told Journey to get a frontman besides Rolie and Schon or get off the label. The result was Robert Fleischman who was discovered by CBS executives.

    Rolie was fantastic, though.

  • Their first three albums weren't mostly instrumentals.... Rolie was their 1st official lead singer and had been from the outset.

  • ha ha thats cool. vinnie vincent invasion is a killer album!

  • Can someone post why Robert Fleischman left Journey?

  • The story is that once they heard Steve Perry's audition tapes, it was all but over for Fleischman. Journey's management wanted to sell albums. The old lineup of Journey wasn't selling many, hence the introduction of Perry.

  • Fleischman was really good.

  • I couldn't have said it better.

  • so this is what rock was like the year i was born. awesome. :) i love steve perry cuz i grew up with him, but this songs pretty cool too.

  • Yeah! This song rocks!

  • I agree!

  • I love digging up this old stuff. Far too many people think that Journey started and ended with Don't Stop Believin' and Faithfully. Their 70's music is much better -- no matter who sings it.

  • @bomalley i agree with ya.

  • hey this guy was good and reminds me of perry

  • Well, as a testament to Robert's character, him and Steve Perry are best friends.

  • Ok singer my ass, this guy had an amazing voice.

  • @carrfox72 yea he does

  • Robert was an ok singer and lyrics were very simplistic. Perry on the other hand was musically inclined and was a true talented singer songwriter.

  • He's okay, but Perry seems to have had more training and can do more with his voice.

  • i have to agree here.

  • The band only gave him 9 months with the band and he certainly wrote/co-wrote some of the band's best early songs. Who knows what creative punch RF would've evolved into if they gave him more time. It's not fair to judge the guy based only on such a short stint.

  • Agreed!

Can you imagine the balls that he would put in "Any Way You Want It"? Since Neil wrote it, it would have been passed to Robert if he had stayed.

  • Perry ALSO wrote "Anyway You want it" So Neal couldn't have GIVEN it to Robert!! LOL!

  • this video is a jewell, thanks for sharing it.

  • Robert was with the band for about nine months in 1977, contributing his song writing skills and vocal performances, but never actually recorded any albums with the band. He co-wrote one of their biggest hits, "Wheel in the Sky", in addition to "Anytime" and "Winds Of March". The only released Journey song featuring his vocals is "For You," which can be found on Journey's box set release: Time3.

  • wiki copy and paste

  • extraordinary - a wonderful surprise finding this on youtube! thank you very much. Seems that Steve Perry certainly wasn't the guy who turned Journey into a commercial pop band - the seeds must have been sown when Robert joined.

  • I believe they're a karaoke band because the original singer(s) are not singing the music; they use their old hits w/various frontman instead of coming together with a new format or recent popular mainstream music. I know that is not inaccurate!!! Also, where did you hear of this rumor about Perry? Sounds doubtful.... very doubtful!

  • what rumor?

  • What rumor about Steve Perry???

  • A lot you know about music siksuzie! Journey is not a karaoke singing band at all!! They are just as popular today as back in the 70's and 80's!!! Plus they're set to get Steve Perry back which means they are going to take te world by storm once again!!!! Remember their reunion album "trail by fire" debuted at number three which means they never really lost their muscle!-yetroym

  • A lot of you guys just don't get it. If it weren't for Robert these guys would have been fired from the label back in the 70's. To compare Robert, Perry, Augeri & Soto is just idiotic because they are apples & oranges. If this band would have some good songwriting today they wouldn't have to keep alive as the karaoke band that they are. A band with any merit can keep up with the times and continue to produce hit music. They should be ashamed of themselves.

  • The falseto part of the song Steve Perry would have done it 10.000 times better.

  • Steve Perry can also play chess better, lick a stamp wetter and wipe his ass cleaner... who cares what Steve can do compared to other singers. Peter Cetera and Dennis Deyoung also can do the same above said items in relation to any of the other singers in those bands too and really... isn't your statement just a little "Captain Obvious". Steve is a wonderful singer but he isn't god and us Robert Fleischman fans don't care.

  • This song is also on the box set "Time 3"

  • Yeah.. Robert Fleischman definitely is one of Rock's greatest vocalists. Robert fans should also check out his vocal stylings with the Vinnie Vincent Invasion.. nothing like 'em!!! Vinnie's band also spawned Slaughter when Mark Slaughter took over lead vocals. Isn't it amazing how many bands one member can play in and still keep his credibility as an amazing artist? Robert Fleischman is definitely a prime example of this..

  • This song was so awesome that even that barrel chested Herbie Herbert in the background was getting off on it! I know I do!

  • I have that album on CD. Many people think that is a Billy Joel album, which is actually a high compliment to either artist, but Billy doesn't deliver a tenth of what Robert does and like Billy, Robert also plays piano beautifully! I liked the album so much I paid $45.00 to have it put onto CD, Graphics, lyrics and all! I am proud of that, too!

  • For any Journey fan this is a gem. Not many know that Fleischman pre-dates Steve Perry. Fleischman wrote Journey's anthem "Wheel in the Sky", and was responsible for taking Journey in the new direction that reinvented the band and eventually brought them superstardom. It is clear that The studio version of this song (with Neal Schon playing a blsitering solo) appears on Fleischman's solo album "Perfect Stranger" (Arista, late 70s).

  • I had no idea that he did a solo album. Thanks for bringing that up. I would love to hear Fleischman sing "Wheel in the Sky."

  • @connerjd I just found this video not to long ago and I couldn't help but notice your comment about Fleischman singing "Wheel in the Sky." I actually have a demo version of the song with Fleischman on vocals!

  • @Musicfan1020 Can you post it? I and many others would love to see the video.

  • i love journey past and present. and robert fleischman is an amazing vocalist. this is also one of my favorite journey songs.

  • This song still holds up today!
