  • i think a princess or queen or sumthin made wing chun to protect herself. i know a girl made it soo ye.

  • lol i luv the top comments

  • IP man is AWSOME

  • Please keep in mind that this is not supposed to be a stance. It is meant to be an exercise for your legs.

  • but I would recommend if you like wing chung then go to a wing chun school :D

  • I think his toes are too far away from each other..my sifu in wing chun told me that it should be under the shoulders..make sense if you watch the lesson 7 I think when you have to kick...When your feet are more together you don't have to change your standing so much..but I may be wrong :D

  • I'll add that he doesn't explain how we can see that we are doing right .... when doing this your knees must be folded enough so you can't see your toes anymore but not further than this and when you're done positioning your shoulders, knees and toes should be aligned if done right. And i don't know how it's called in chinese or in english but where I live the literal translation would be "neutral position".

  • 00:16 my teacher told me that it's exactly how it shouldn't be done, you need to keep the knee folded from the start to the end unlike him, during the positioning there is a step where he has his knees straight, besides he also forgot to mention that when you are positioned you need to align your pelvis with your knees. Further more you arn't forced to have your two foots stuck together, the best would be if you let 1-2 cm away from each others.

  • Master Wong, I've been watching some of your Wing Chun videos and i like the way you explain the exercises - simple and straight to the point. I'll start practicing some basic routines from today with your videos, so I wanted to thank you for making them and sharing your knoweledge with the world.

  • Thank You :)

  • He gives really good instructions !

  • Great. I like your accent. Sounds like mixed between English and Viet

  • Kung fu is meant to be original and not copied by some englishmen who will evantually change it.I learnt kung fu in china from 1999 , from master yip chun, now i am only 19 and undergoing National Service , i believe Master wong here is a great master , I will tell master yip the next time i go to china .

  • @Luminiqable

I learned In the SOG first from Grandmaster William Cheung and later from the Moon to Pai School whos Sifu is Jack Roberts who is under Sifu Steve Lee Swift which was a student of Yip Chun. Master Wongs style is very different here and seems a little more hard. But diffrent people translate Wing Chun in different ways. Tell me how yip likes this video.

  • Wing Chun Kung Fu is what Bruce Lee used was trained by the best MA in china IP Man :) they also have a great Video called IP Man 1 and 2

  • @jeffhardy123877 yip man was the teacher of bruce lee .. i think the founder of wing chun?

  • @tolusoretolus Not the founder, but he made it popular, then Bruce Lee made it famous.

  • nice info, but i prefer to keep lower my body down and stay still or do some punches, it works better and it can strenghthen your thighs for wing chun footwork more easily

  • thats funny the stance hes in at 23: is very similar to what WR in football learn when blocking

  • very helpful! Thanks so much!!

  • wing chun rulz way better defence than karate

  • ok thanks but howcome just 3-5 minutes?

  • i love u mr wong

  • i wish he would tell everyone that he is teaching us the modified version of wing chun and not the traditional.

  • @MrGtafan44

It was modified in a purpose to make it better , not everything that old equals to good .

  • @MrGtafan44

Keep in mind that there is no "traditional" form. Wing Chun has been modified by many since it became widely known. Ip Man style for instance has a few bad habits and vulnerabilities that you don't want to get into the habit of using. I learned Mainland style mixed with Ip Man's style in what is perhaps the greatest and most effective way to learn.

  • @HalfAzNPersuasioN Thumbs up if you were inspired by Yuen Kay Shan instead of Ip Man.

  • @HalfAzNPersuasioN ahahaha yes i watched and love ip man :D

  • @HalfAzNPersuasioN

lol that was an EPIC movie made me wanna learn wing chun!

  • how many times should i do these exercises? and for how long?

  • @7kaos95 Times: Just like a workout. Good enough to feel stress, but not so hard that you will not be able to do them the next day. How long: Everyday, no more than 3-5 minutes.

  • THANK YOU VERY MUCH! This is much appreciated.

  • are these videos useful? id like to learn but not waste my time on something unhelpful, if they aren't good, can you send me a link to one you'd recommend?

  • WING CHUN!

    '

  • i cant exercise cuz i keep laughing at his accent. No offense

  • this is actually a very good excersise cause you're legs get stronger you gaine more ballance and you're legs get more limber and loose

  • this more like how to become a profassional porno actor lol...

  • how many reps and sets of this should i do?

  • @heavymetal420420

Try not to think of it in terms of reps or sets. This isn't a workout (though it does exercise you). Instead, try to take what you've learned here and slow it down as much as possible. The most important facet of Wing Chun training is this "root" stance. You'd NEVER fight like that, mind you, but that's not what it's designed for. It strengthens the legs whilst giving you a valuable idea of how to root yourself so you don't give ground to your opponent.

  • @MaestroDraven so pretty much just do it as much as i can to strengthen my legs while slowing it down? i would love to actually learn it from a instructor but i live in the country and there are no instructors anywhere close. i just wish he did it from the side so you could see exactly how low hes going and the way the body is lined up. i'm very new to this as you can tell but i'm also very interested to learn the right way. thank you for your help by the way.

  • @heavymetal420420

Think of it like a triangle. The stance is designed so that your toes point forward to the top of it, and your feet make up the other two bottom points. Then you just lower your body down until your knees bend like you see here. Be careful not to try and MAKE your knees bend, because then you're putting strain on your knees and that's bad. You should feel it in the top of the thighs the most. After awhile you strengthen them and feel really solid.

  • @heavymetal420420

So to summarize, don't worry TOO much about exact leg positioning. Just make sure your feet are apart to your shoulders when you're doing the stance. You'd never actually fight like this by the way. It's designed to train your body in the art of rooting your stance. In this particular stance for instance, it'd be very hard for an opponent to push you back, as opposed to if you were standing straight up like normal. EVERYTHING you do in WC is for a vital reason.

  • @heavymetal420420

Also, the way your knees are pointed inwards when you lower your body, it might look silly, but keep in mind that it's training your body to quickly go down into that stance if someone tries to kick you in the groin. You can either block the attack, or if you're good, you can catch the opponent's ankle, twist your legs, and break his leg. VERY brutal stuff.

As for helping out, no problem :) Glad to see you're learning!

  • the first part is like the c-walk

  • how many reps and sets shud i do of these

  • Ip man did lead me to this and i want to be like ip man but i DONT want him to be lke my lord like Compadect123 says, because our lord is in heaven and he is mighty and stronger than anyone and he is jesus christ so believe in him and whoever believes in him im sure jesus will bless you with the power and you will be good and good job to whoever is successfully learning from this

  • @beardeddragon741

    well said my friend

  • I miss IP man

  • I add to favorites,very good channel.

  • @Falling2Grey29 You are aware that it's not part of his name. It's just Jet Li.

  • Master Wong... monkey move

  • POTISION!

  • WING CHUN! (Y)IP MAN! HOY!

  • How long should we do this before moving on to lesson 2?

  • @litestudios

Don't think of it as "moving on" to the next lesson. Instead, keep practicing everything you see here until it's complete second nature. Then move on to the next while still continuing to practice the first few lessons. The key to Wing Chun is repetition. If you're in a hurry to excel, you're going to put yourself in harm's way. As with any martial art, patience is the key. It's a lot like a musician who has to go through basic exercises even though he's a master.

  • @MaestroDraven Musician wasn't a good example but I think I got the idea

  • @litestudios

Well just think of Joe Satriani. He's the greatest guitar player on Earth, but if he doesn't go through his most basic exercises, he won't be able to play his music everyday. He himself said this. I still go through the most basic WC drills everyday, just to keep the reminder. But basically, the best advice I have is to practice the hell out of each lesson until you're doing it unconsciously and not even thinking about it. But don't stop once you move on.

  • @MaestroDraven Stop already. I mean music stuff isn't my thing but I get it you don't need to explain anymore

  • @litestudios

You asked. If you're so sensitive about advice then you're not going to get very far with Wing Chun.

  • @MaestroDraven I'm not sensitive I'm just saying I can't relate to that stuff. It's not nice to assume you know

  • @litestudios

Well, where I was raised, when someone gives you advice, you thank them. But that's just me.

  • @MaestroDraven Lol. It all comes down to basics no matter what. Thank you for your time. But I already knew about how important the basics were I was just asking if it would hurt me to if I watched the other vids to soon

  • end death penalty, countries getting away with murder: us, iran, china, japan, iraq, afghanistan, israel...

  • Do you raise your heels when you go down?

  • This is exactly what I was looking for. First things first, and excercises before everything else is important to learn. Thanks for this. :)

  • Its Yip Man , no Ip man

  • @MrNenolindao Technically it's Ip Man, The "Y" is added at times to help in pronunciation

  • Thank you Sifu Wong for spreading the beautiful art of Wing Chung to the world. While these exercises by themselves may not seem important, they all work together towards a common and synergistic purpose of elevating the human body to it's highest potential. While it is best to learn hands on with a trained instructor, many people around the world do not have access to such training. This is the next best thing and can possibly save someone's life.

  • Ok ok.. I've done this basic leg excercise .. But when do I learn how to split someones head ?!?!?

    Just kidding..

  • if only he could teach us the wooden dummy techniques

  • It's wrong from a beginning man

  • MAster wong, i really want to learn wing chun, but in indonesian we don't have it, i want learn it so much :'(

  • thanyoooou!! =]

  • thankyou =]

  • since i saw ip man 1 it give me a lot of interest in martial art it may look simple but can be deadly most of the silat in SEA originated from China being admitted by Silat Beksi betawi gurus

  • Pain is good. It tells you that you are hurting yourself :-) Seriously, though, good video.

  • Hi five

  • gadget show

  • Wing Chun is a system tested and approved worldwide, is an excellent system for close combat. Many comments made so far are just stupid incompetence and arrogance. Congratulations Master Wong!

  • @ranzemis dude tell them to watch ip man 1 and 2 and there see how kick ass wing chun is i cant wait to get into the nerest dojo near me.

  • @ranzemis i am still unsure , but maybe it s just my lack of speedness and bodycontroll to keep the wingchun techniques at fast pace what do you recommend?

  • @ranzemis well put and it seems if not negative everyone is a comedian! I myself would love to spar with Master Wong and learn even more!

  • @neeraj4369 Yip Chun is 87 and he is the son of Yip Man who is deceased

  • @neeraj4369 Yip Chun is 87 and he is the son of Yip Man who is deceased

  • Can somebody link me which dvd(s) of Master Wong's has all 60 of these basic lessons?

  • I've studied Tae Kwon Do, Kung Fu and most recently Goju Ryu. Wing Chun appeals to me because of it's simplicity. When we go through self defense sequences in karate, I know that most people including me will never be able to execute these moves because they are too elaborate and often are predicated on a non moving attacker.

  • what city are you based out of ?

  • this is so cool, u cant do it unless ur fit :D

  • thnx for sharing and i want to learn about it.

  • I didn't realise you were only a county away! I don't find the exercise too difficult because I do another martial art (taekwondo)

  • I am 47 years old and trained King Fu ...

Really Great that you have ur lessons online....

It s just great and hope we can have some spirit combined too

  • thank you so much for offering these videos on Youtube

my knees hurt when doing this exercise - it buckles and pops and clicks - I cannot bend very far down yet

  • @ricknicklesarts I've been doing this exercise every day - and the more I do it the better it gets - but I still have a long way to go.
