  • The lyrics remind me of a Robert Browning poem.

  • beautiful 2:17

  • feat Grandma from Squidbillies

  • Dat bass. Amirite?

  • I fucking love this song so much. Probably my favorite by them.

  • I wish this song was longer!

  • All the years I've listened to this song and I never even noticed the "P-I-X-I-E-S!" part until I read about it on wikipedia.

  • @FerenswayRecords wats the P-I-X-I-E-S part?

  • @cotupina187 listen to 1.10 to 1.15 :-)

  • holy shit my pee pee just went back inside of me

  • the pixies just kick you straight in the balls,

  • I wish it was louder =O

  • So fucking sexy!

  • Will you take off that dress, and send it to me?

  • whats the picture? Its prettty cool

  • Does anyone know of any Pixies songs that are particularly heavy metal sounding. That would be right up my ally.

  • @Thanos700 try Tame! My fave track.

  • Un bon rif^^

  • make this song longer sonic youth

  • to cool

  • this song is awesome but it's def not long enough.

  • David Bowie really likes The Pixies.

  • P-I-X-I-E-S!!!!

  • @7waystowin You're an idiot! Bowie covered this song! Go kill yourself!

  • @AkiZivina344 He's trolling, faggot. gb2 basement.

  • @thoughtcrimer Go fuck ur mom.

  • @7waystowin what a lame guy... go get fill up with info and then argue about it.. you dummy

  • @7waystowin Wikipedia would've saved you from humiliation.

  • Mescaline!!

  • Great song, very interesting lyrics. Wow, Black is a genius.

Basically, he's shooting down the idea that reading some words can provide true comfort. This is very similar to his mocking in "Mr Grieves". The point is that if you've tasted the flesh and body fluids of another, mere words pale in comparison.

Prisons connote different things. Is he in a physical prison? Brilliant song. Awesome.

  • Jesus, the Pixies even sound like what was eventually the White Stripes, it's uncanny...is there any major alt rock group that doesn't owe some gratitude to the Pixies??

  • No one should ever cover Pixies songs. Not saying that in a dick way, it's just no one can ever come close to touching their versions. They are too unique. One of the greatest bands of all time.

  • @guanjon yes, you're right, nobody can touch her versions, but when they take a pixies song and change it? Do you know the Mr.Grieves Cover by TV on the radio. I think it's really good...

  • @vanboaconstrictor No, I'll check it out, thanks. And I agree with you that covers are better when they are changed up/reworked. But listen to Bowie's version of this, it's exactly the same (in terms of following the original musically). I've heard some good covers of Hey also.

  • I think this song influenced Cobain to write Frances Farmer Will Have Revenge On Seattle

  • @Tybangy Check out Foo fighters tired of you is almost the same song jajajaj... you bet who influence /copy who

  • ROCK AND FUCKING ROLL!!!!!!!!!!

  • Man I love both versions of this song. They both offer a completely different experience. This one is much more desperate with the vocals and really just draws an image of complete desolation, while Bowies is more of a romping flowing rock song.

  • I love both the bowie version and the Pixies version.

  • Amazing song. I have an acoustic version on my channel. :-)

  • lol

  • wow it's amazing how hard it is to find the official video of a song

  • the most demented and awesome love song ever recorded....

  • but the lettter in your writtin doesnt mean your not dead -bloody your hands hands on a cactus tree wipe it on your dress and send it to me---!

  • I'd subscribe, but You Tube said, 'You have too many subscriptions compared to the number of subscribers'. Like, what? I don't KEEP UP with them? YT should get their facts straight!!!

  • this has absolutely nothing to do with mescaline! why dont you listen instead of spouting pseudo psychotropic nonsense?

  • It's called mescaline, it's the only way to fly.

  • aint no 'The' homie. they just Pixies.

  • Great song!!!

  • fr4nk bl4ck r00ls

  • I heard the Bowie cover first but didn't twig at all that it wasn't original, and was pleasantly surprised that the Pixies released it first. The two are crafted from the same clay maybe.

  • @p1nkAcid Bowie has praised the Pixies in many an interview and they are fans of his. Yes, they are cut from the same cloth

  • he kinda sounds like jack white

  • @hunggar2000 you mean jack white sounds like frank black

  • @hunggar2000 dude jack white sounds like him ;)

  • The best song by them is every song recorded from Caribou to The Navajo Know.

  • where did you get the skull image from?

  • wow he is desperate

  • Top 5 Pixies songs:

    5.Debaser

    4.Where is my Mind

    3.Velouria

    2.Gouge Away

    1.Cactus

  • But what about Manta Ray, Crackity Jones, Motorway to Roswell, Ana, Into the White, Tame, Caribou, All over the world, Hey, Wave of Mutilation, Where is my mind, I Bleed, Isla de Encanta, Vamos, Space (I believe in), hell any song! I couldn't make a top 5 if I wanted to. It's all too brilliant!

    Jefrey with one F!!!

  • we'll just say surfer rosa is the best album then.

  • I find it very hard to name my favourite Pixies album. They are all very different and choosing one is almost impossible. It's like saying you love one of your kids (who happens to be a superhero named Tony) more than the others. You may like one a bit more than the other, but you could never say it out loud because you don't want to hurt their feelings. And naming my favourite Pixies album would hurt the other albums' feelings. And than they would have to kill me in my sleep.

  • @AllRiseForDrEvil Lmao, i love you!!

  • @AllRiseForDrEvil

    dUUUUUDE YOU SMOKE HARD SHIT

    WHERE DO YOU GET THAT-'?

  • dUUUUUUUDE

YOU SMOKE HARD SHIT....... WHERE DO YOU GET THAT?

  • @tukitronic

Actually I ate a desert cactus. The same one Frank had for dinner when he wrote this song.

  • @AllRiseForDrEvil doolittle its there beest

  • @0987cheez personally i think letter to memphis is their best.but i would put this at #2

  • This is by far the best song of longing ever written - I'd drop my panties in a second for shit like that

  • wow that's an awesome background pic

  • wow, the studio version seems a lot more haunting and disturbed

  • <3 Love Pixies so hard.

  • Do you have more information on that poster? Pixies playing UC Davis? What's the date? Love the way it looks.

  • Awesome song!!

  • She is sooooooooo beautiful!!!

  • I cant stop listening to this song. Greatest band ever!!!

  • Yep. Dont forget David Bowie, though :-)

  • I'm surprised Bowie knows Grunge.

He covered this song on his almost-totally-unknown 2002 album.

That's how I know this song existed.

  • The Pixies were many things but never were they grunge. But I will admit a lot of the grunge bands stole from them. But why wouldn't they? Pixies are artistic gold.

  • The pixies aren't grunge?

  • No. Pixies started in Boston. Grunge was mostly a Seattle/West Coast thing: Mother Lovebone, Alice In Chains, Mudhoney, Nirvana, Pearl Jam, et al. Different vibe, attitude & look. Pixies were more artful than grunge IMO & were closer to punk but weren't quite that either. They weren't anything you could categorize easily & were alternative before the term was coined - they called it "Progressive Rock" back then. I love my Nirvana & I love that they admired Pixies but Pixies were not grunge.

  • Woah thanks for clearing that up. I was apparently taught wrong.

  • good job clearing that up - the whole Subpop thing was cool but nobody was in the same league as the Pixies except maybe Nirvana and well, we know how that turned out

  • one: pixies were not grunge. Sachapp464 just clear that up 4 u. great.

two: why will you be surprised that Bowie knows grunge, or Pixies for that matter? ge is an incredible curious artist always on the look for new sounds. reciently performed with artist such as Arcade Fire just to name one.

Three: Reality is not an almost totally unknown album!!!

  • I was surprised he knew grunge because I never really related his musical style to that of grunge at all.

Reality? I thought this song was on Bowie's "Heathen" album. That's how I got to know this song.

  • you are right is heathen.

and yes, his musical style is different but he is one curious guy!

    cheers!

  • get lives

  • we have an awesome ones: all day listening music and smoking shit yeaaahhhh what more could a girl want in life? :D

  • Some blues in this song.... like it :D

    And pixies rule... :o FTW

  • in fact, david bowie covered this song....this song isn't a bowie cover

  • Bowie knows good music. Pixies are damn good music.

  • @Crackerdamus101 who the fuck is David Bowie lol

  • "Cactus" is a song by the American alternative rock band Pixies, and is the eighth track on their 1988 album Surfer Rosa. It was written and sung by the band's frontman Black Francis ... So next time, think before you speak!

  • Wow calm down. It's a simple mistake.

  • @antiXincorporated GET AIDS.

  • @antiXincorporated fuck your dumb

  • @bman462 *you're*

If you're going to call people dumb make sure you do it correctly.
