Ralfy, thanks for the great ideas to enjoy my Whisky. I have a question, can you comment on the mixing of Green Tea and Whisky? There were articles about this mix from China a couple years back, and this is my preferred way to drink more budget whiskys without flooding it with cola like you mentioned.
@ralfystuff, thanks for this vlog. I enjoy scotch very much, but sometimes I get fatigued by trying to analyze and break it down. Sometimes you don't want to think, and just enjoy a tasty beverage. IMO, Making a long drink is a perfect way to enjoy the basic nature of scotch without trying to decipher subtle flavors. (Not sure I would do this with any expensive single malt though). Do you ever try scotch neat with a lemon twist, or even an olive - or is that too sacrilegious?
hi ralfy i have just started drinking whisky and the first two bottles i have bought are the glen moray classic and glenlivet 12 year old and i was wondering if they are good ones for when you start drinking whisky?
Those are some great tips, Ralfy! This is why I watch your channel. You seem to genuinely care about making sure we don't put our malty bucks toward something that is substandard or overpriced. Not to mention different ways to take a middle ground whisky and make it the best it can be. This is greatly appreciated and I think I speak for all of us when I say I hope you never stop your entertaining and informative malt reviews. Cheers!!!! :)
@chandin69 Ralfy is great, in the video where he shows his private collection I remember he mentioned an Undertaker. Let me know if I am wrong. THANKS.
Ralfy, can you do a video of "recommended collectible malts"? In other words some whiskies that are superb right now and that are worth stocking up on either for an investment or future enjoyment. A format of five or six would be nice like your other "recommended" videos. For example: Ugedail, A'bunadh, HP 18, Bruichladdich? Thanks!
A bottle of Ugedail or HP18 aren't going to be that "collectible" unless quality goes down in the future. A good A'bunadh batch may be more collectible because each batch might have something unique. However it's the single barrels that are truly collectible because a great barrel of whisky is hard to repeat.
speaking of mixing ralfy - have you experimented much with single malts mixes - i'm thinking of combining - a bit of Jura 21, Glenmorangie 18, Balvenie 12 double wood and a little Laphroaig
Hey Ralfy i have found you vids really informative. I have been a blended whiskey guy all my life but you vids have inspired me to go out and give a single malt a try got any suggestions for a beginner like me
@Chaz560 No, it rots and sticks to the bottle neck and will crumble after two years or so. If practicalities mean you have to store the bottles on their side, due to locker shape on a boat for instance, make sure you empty the oldest first after aout 2 years or get some plastic stoppers or possibly composite corks. The natural cork always rot following when a bottle has had some time (6 months maybe?) on its side. If some cork sticks to the neck after withdrawing, that's your warning
Ralfy the mixologist makes another guest appearance! Another great video Ralfy! When my craving for a whisky cocktail kicks in, a touch of lime and a good ginger beer does the trick.
I'm looking forward to the recipes, ralfy. I hope you'll do some vlogs on scotch-based cocktails in the future, too - not only the classics like the Rob Roy and the Rusty Nail, but some of the newer drinks as well. I recently discovered one called the Copper Lantern which is brilliant with a smoky/honey-rich whisky to give it depth.
50% of White Horse + 50% of Glenfarclas = premium blend with a great balance of a sherry and malty notes! I had a half of a bottle of WH and a half of Farclas. It's not just an experiment, it's alco a pretecting a whisky from the air. Bottle is full again, and the oxidation wont touch the drink so quickly.
I have a simple question. Why doesn't anyone in the states know the difference between Mineral water, Soda water and Seltzer water? Sometimes I ask for a glass of Mineral water at a restaurant and most times they don't know what I'm talking about. The restaurants that do have it serve it in a wine glass like its something fancy...
@MrMariusroyal Actually in germany noone knows either, but here it's all called mineral water (and also served in wine glasses, along with the "fancy" bottle on the table)
@PrinzvonHapunkt hmm... I think where I'm originally from (Romania) its more well known because there are a few big mineral water brands, like Borsec. Borsec can be found all over the world and it is want I drink in the states now, but I can only find it in European owned stores like; German, Romanian and Russian stores usually.
@MrAndrewdamon I enjoy pouring a bit of Ardbeg 10 in the JW Double Black. Sometimes I do half Ardbeg & half JW Double Black and its heaven! Try it if you get a chance...
The idea about mixing the single malt sounds really cool.I read the guys question in the comments about what water to use if you don't have potable water in your area, got me wondering what effect fluoride has on the whiskey's flavour being that almost all of UK's drinking water is fluoridated.
@ZEDZOR2 I've not drank tap water for two years because I started choking with it, I did not know about the flouridation. I have also stopped using flouridated toothpaste as I've had a reaction to it. Sodium Flouride is commonly used as rat poison. Flouride numbs your brain. The flouridation of drinking water could be considered an act of population control as it reduces fertility in both sexes.
@TheBeebopper Yeah i know all this about Sodium Flouride i was wondering what effect it had on whiskey, maybe because alcohol works like a catalyst something should be happening,im not sure im not a chemist however if people are realy concerned about whats in their drink then this seems important but sadly often overlooked just like aspertame and all the other bio tech weaponary we are consuming.Take care my friend.
@ZEDZOR2 I often wondered why heavy whisky drinkers tend to become violent, or do the violent tend to associate more closely with the more firey spirit? Could it be the cleansing action of the whisky frees one from the bounds placed by sodium flouride. For anyone not already following, check out flouexetine (I hope I spelled that right)..
@TheBeebopper Fluoxetine is Prozac.I think some people kick off when they drink alcohol because they are drinking not to be merry but as a type of self medication.I think that it's important to remember that on a night out drinking it's only the minority who act in this way.One point that may have some bearing is that when alcohol reaches the bloodstream it converts estrogen to testasterone in females and vice versa in males i think this can confuse some peoples mind in a miriade of ways,
What I've started doing lately is that I take 2 separate glasses of islays like an ardbeg 10 and a laph 10 for example, and when I have 1/4 of each left I combine them, it's really interesting to try and spot the influences from both of them!
Thanks for the long drink tip by the way, I have to go buy some herbs tomorrow and try that out! Finally I've got a second use for the tonic I always have home for the occasional g&t!
Ralfy what type of water should be used in whisky? I assume you have access to some pretty clean spring/well water on the Isle of Man. For those of us living in the big cities of the world, is there any problem with using treated tap water? Or is it worth it to spring for a bottle of spring water?
I believe herbs are our makers real and authentic medicines, have been growing them and learning from them for a while but I never thought of merging them with my other passion.
Brilliant simply brilliant, Thanks, I'll be making me a tonic right now.
@TheEmbalmer77 Alcohol opens up channels in the body which may otherwise remained closed due to illness. It can be an ideal transport method to deliver the chosen herbal remedy, should simple water fail. Great videos Ralfy...I'm your biggest fan in Brazil (I loved the cachaças review, I know a lot about them, count with me if you need a help about cachaça). About VAT 69, in Brazil, we use to pay 14 dollars. I agree with you, VAT 69 it's a great whisky...and the best...it's cheap!!! I preffer to pay 14 dollars on it, than 25, 30 on a bottle of red label or Ballantines finest (I hate them). Will you review Buchanans, Logan, Old Parr, C. Sark Std? They are very popular in Brazil! @ralfystuff Last question Ralfy...I Swear....how many brands you have available on Scotland? I ask because the brazilians are starting to drink lots of good whisky.
