Just Met?!! What about Covent Garden, Staatsoper in Berlin, Staatsoper in Vienna, Liceu in Barcelona,La Opera in LA, Salzburg festival, working with best conductors like Barenboim,Chailly,Papano etc
Probably something in "this guy" if there is waiting list to schedule him....
He should sing with a correct technique of low larynx or open throat so that people won't bash him anymore. It will help his voice to avoid another throat operation.
@mondayblues5 I think Rolanda sings with complete open throat. He is exceptionally good. I dont think yiu know what you are talking about. His voice is very well projected. Beautiful sound.
It is incredible how this loser and ignorant gringo that calls himself inquisite4ever spends all his time pontificating on you tube, does he have a day job?

Peace? I didn't know we were at war :) The marketing machine may be a fact of life, but it is up to us to refuse to take things for face value and reject the brainwash. That is why we have a brain. Marketing has become too agressive. It pushes tenors with limited vocal dexterity to sing in "money-making" heavier roles, destroying their voices prematurely. Typical examples: Alagna and Villazon.
I agree with you on many things, more than you thought. In fact I am very much agree that marketing machine became impossibly agressive. The case of RV is truly an example. But (if you interested) he started new approach and seriously resisting this.
You cannot imagine how difficult this. I trust his intelligence and intuition.
At this day and age, most audience have no depth indeed. Otherwise, they wouldn't consider such opera singers of limited talent and ability the next best thing since sliced bread.
My concern is the downwards slope opera as the business aspect of it has taken precedence of the artistic aspect. As a long time opera lover and paying opera goer, I demand that top quality be restored in this most remarkable artform.
It is not a matter of liking. I am disenchanted by the fact that an ordinary tenor with limited vocal ability is marketed as the next big tenor by the marketing machine, and promoted by his overrated countryman Domingo.
Now cut this melodramatic nonsense, and let's get back to opera and operatic singing. It is unfortunate that the expectations of the pop-audiences of opera is a so low, so much so that whatever is shoved down their throat by mass marketing is perceived as excellence.
You mean audience of no depth. Last time I checked artistry was based on excellence. I see no excellence whatsoever. And pop-opera is not considered opera per se. Being a clown does not conform with being a refined tenor. The foremost and most important concept of opera is singing. If you want to settle for less go watch a Broadway show. For acting, I'd suggest a motion picture, or theater. How can such an inferior voice represent emotions and communicate them? You make no sense.
He has perfectly hooted, throaty, monochromatic, pushed voice. Last time I checked, perfection of such characteristics in a tenor's voice is not considered something positive. To what has opera come down? Someone singing with such a voice is an insult to those men of exceptionality gone before him.
I have just received my Don Carlo tickets to see him at the Royal Opera House, June next year. Hope he gets well soon. We miss him, I got tickets to see him in L'Elisir D'amore, now I shall be seeing Secco, and later on Korchak instead.

From the perspective I've just given, note that my "approach" inherently protects the artist, while yours "implicitly" expedites their down fall.

Let's make peace.
Marketing machine is product of todays life.
It has pluses and MINUSES for everybody including artists.

You just don't like HIM. That's all right.
We all have different tastes and choices based on many factors. Education, upbringing musical and otherwise, all backgrounds, nationality after all.
The main thing - to stay civilized, not to show hate and respect other opinions. I did not mean audience of no depth, no.

Image of an Artist comes from number of qualities. You should see more than ones HOW this man of Extraordinary Talent influensing
audience, HOW he leads them through Music, Drama and all Opera passions. And how people greatful to him for giving them chance to live
those 2 or 3 hours experiencing feelings of Real Opera-Drama which we are not always have in life.
Particularly HIS VOICE brings those priceless emotions and thousands of his listeners respond to him with unconditional love .
