Why don't they combine Clara Rockmore's rendition of "Hebrew Melody" with that of Josef Hassid? Heifitz's may have been technically perfect, but it lacked the deep emotionality of the Hassid performance.
Combine Clara Rockmore with Josef Hassid - and the tears will flow, I guarantee. Both Clara Rockmore's and Josef Hassid's performances of "Hebrew Melody' were soul-wrenchingly beautiful...
I'm beginning to REALLY get into the theremin! But I have a question for theremin-enthusiasts: it seems almost unsurpassed in it's capability for melodic passages, but what about fast or technically difficult things like staccatos? I haven't heard any such passages yet on the videos I've seen. I would appreciate any info theremin players or enthusiasts could provide.
The God of violin and the goddess of theremin immerse into one.....wow is the most beautiful thing! Thank you for creating this!! It would be the soundtrack of my dream tonight :)
She was my friend. Google us. I can relate a story about her and Heifetz if interested. What year was he born? I will look up his bio, meanwhile and answer that myself.
See, they met at the St. Peterberg Conservatory,
she, entering there in 1915, at age four: the youngest admittance of a prodigy there, ever. Auer did that.
"Oh, I knew him well enough--when he was still in knee pants---he was older, of course, than myself, and very---obsequious" (exact words).
I know a great deal of Clara that she would want me to share with her fans.
BTW: of the Delos recording of the late seventies and the resultant DVD: Bob Moog engineered those recordings. Neither Clara nor Bob ever got a penny of payment, no royalties. The female owner of Delos, I forget her name, she was CEO or something, and simply stole the works and marketed the recordings for decades. This hurt Clara and it hurt Bob. I knew them both.
(cont) Neither Bob nor Clara would go through the ordeal of taking legal action against Delos for non-payment of royalty. They both were martyrs for the music.
For them, the presentation of her art was worth more than the money both of them might have gained, but got no thanks from Delos... ZIPPO, nada, NOTHING from the Delos-creeps. So, I am the angry one now.
She only wanted people to hear, and then, someday, surpass her art.
Amazing artists-I also really admire how you put this together, trading off solos and combining also. Two pupils of Leopold Auer... I am guessing they never played together... until now! Many Thanks!
Thank you for posting this. I find it fascinating and musically valuable. When they play together, their sense of pitch is amazing. I am grateful to you. Thnaks from a member of the Chicago Symphony Orchestra.
Yes,indeed,my dear freind...and about your message..when you ask me for Mme. clara Haskil,my response is:yes,i know her..ansd i love her...i have an olkd registration in vinyl of Bach's double concerto, with her,and M. Geza anda.
This video shows the marvelous similarities between the Theremin and the violin.
The coincidence is that Clara Rockmore was a violinist, but suffered repetitive motion injuries to her neck that forced her to terminate the violin and play the Theremin instead. Hence, she developed a good ear for the violin sound of the Theremin, as opposed to the "bleep-and-squeak" of modern electronic musicians. They could learn from her.
Eerily beautiful..........beautifully eerie...
Thank you.

So far, how close have new artists come to her?

Clara Rockmore remains the very best Theremin artist who ever lived. Absolutely nobody could play it better, before or since...

Clara didn't sing. She played the electronic instrument called the Theremin. It's the same as in the beginning of the Star Trek TV show.

Just incredible poetical!
All the eastern jewish culture and its tragedy is expressed in this mixing.
I have no words!

How on earth did you get these two performances (each in itself brilliant!) to fit together this well?
Well done - Thanks!

This is an interesting video highlighting each performer's image as their version of the song is played. Nicely mixed, too. Thanks.
