Yeah ill give you that, Kirk and Paul are not good examples because they are in a lyrical band where there is structure to the songs. However, just because they are in a band playing songs, doesn't mean these songs cant be very complicated. "Dragonforce" "Children of Bodom" "Pantara" Just because songs have structure doesn't mean they cannot be a demonstration of great complexity.

Joe Satriani is a better melody man than Vai I think fo rthe common Fan. You have to truely be in music to appreciate Vai. Satriani can be played to an audience better. Vai is better technical wise by a half step than Satch. I consider Satch more of a halfshredder/amazing songwriter and Vai a Freak/good songwriter.

How does one judge half a step better technical ability than another? Steve Vai is extremely talented but Satch knows exactly how to make sounds people like to hear. I bet Satch could play anything Vai has played, and vice versa. I agree but I don't think either is half a step better than the other.
You make a good point in that there is no better here. However, there is also no equality. They noted before, on a G3 interview, that every guitarist is uniquely his own player. This goes more than anything for such developed players as Vai and Satch, and I must disagree that they can play each others things. They might technically be able to learn each other's songs, but they will never be the same or equal. And that's exactly the way it should be.
Vai has the unfair advantage of having fingers longer than ET's... But yes, I think he is better than Satriani...
As for buckethead, I think he is vastly underrated on account of the fact that he hides his name and few people can take anyone called "Buckethead" seriously...

PPL LISTEN there is no "BEST" overall guitarist, just preference, steve vai is the best at technical stuff and probably up there for emotion, slash is good at "wowing" the crowd, with wahs and stuff, and joe satriani is good at putting soul into fast moving music, van halen is good at improv and whammy/harmonics and staying in tune, and tapping he is amazing at, eric johnson is good at scales and has amazing tone, etc etc etc it goes on forever
This man is easily better than Satriani. He may not have the wild energy of Halen, but he's definitely one of the best technical guitarists out there by far.

Yeah ill give you that, Kirk and Paul are not good examples because they are in a lyrical band where there is structure to the songs. However, just because they are in a band playing songs, doesn't mean these songs cant be very complicated. "Dragonforce" "Children of Bodom" "Pantara" Just because songs have structure doesn't mean they cannot be a demonstration of great complexity.

Joe Satriani is a better melody man than Vai I think fo rthe common Fan. You have to truely be in music to appreciate Vai. Satriani can be played to an audience better. Vai is better technical wise by a half step than Satch. I consider Satch more of a halfshredder/amazing songwriter and Vai a Freak/good songwriter.

How does one judge half a step better technical ability than another? Steve Vai is extremely talented but Satch knows exactly how to make sounds people like to hear. I bet Satch could play anything Vai has played, and vice versa. I agree but I don't think either is half a step better than the other.

You make a good point in that there is no better here. However, there is also no equality. They noted before, on a G3 interview, that every guitarist is uniquely his own player. This goes more than anything for such developed players as Vai and Satch, and I must disagree that they can play each others things. They might technically be able to learn each other's songs, but they will never be the same or equal. And that's exactly the way it should be.

PPL LISTEN there is no "BEST" overall guitarist, just preference, steve vai is the best at technical stuff and probably up there for emotion, slash is good at "wowing" the crowd, with wahs and stuff, and joe satriani is good at putting soul into fast moving music, van halen is good at improv and whammy/harmonics and staying in tune, and tapping he is amazing at, eric johnson is good at scales and has amazing tone, etc etc etc it goes on forever
