Yep, when the Conservatives get into power next Spring, we can all kiss goodbye to employees rights.

They opposed the minimum wage at every step. That's the first thing they'll abolish. The Tories want an army of 3 million sub-minimum-wage-slaves as a source of cheap labour for fat-cat employees.

I agree that it's wrong for employers to exploit workers, and right that workers should stand up for legitimate rights.

The reason I think postal workers are stupid to strike is that it's guaranteed to have exactly the opposite effect to protecting their jobs. They're guaranteeing the loss of millions of pounds of contracts. Amazon is just the first. This will eventually lead to the loss of thousands of Royal Mail jobs.

TNT is not the only option. There are dozens.

When Royal Mail are a dim and distant memory do you think TNT or DHL or any of the other carrier services are going to take a letter to the other end of the country for pennies. Not going to happen and then we'll all be screwed.

I can't believe how stupid the strikers are. How can they possibly win the support of the public when they make the public suffer so much.

Small businesses are going bust because these militants have hijacked our post.

I'm delighted that Amazon has withdrawn their contract with Royal Mail, and I hope other businesses do the same.

I try to use the post as little as possible. I do most correspondence by email. The strikers can't attack our email system at least.

If you let yourself be walked over by your employers that's entirely up to you but these people are doing what they need to do to ensure their jobs are there in the future.

Here are some alternatives to Royal Mail. You say TNT is the only option, but for businesses the options include: Interparcel DHL APC CollectPlus Fedex City Link CitiPost Why do you say the only option is TNT??? And what about the hundreds of small businesses going to the wall because cheques stuck in the post have killed their cash flow? If the employees of Royal Mail want to protect jobs, going on strike is the worst possible thing they could do.

You'll be surprised to hear that we're in agreement on more than you think.

I agree that it's important to defend the principle of a postal service that is a real service to the whole of Britain at a reasonable cost to the user. And the principle of treating workers decently, vital.

However, what I disagree with is the tactics. However justified the cause, the effect of strikes will cripple Royal Mail and put far more postal workers jobs in danger than not striking.

hello KingHotDog - Here's the plan: Each postal worker puts £200 into a kitty to produce a £6million fund to hire a national PR/lobbying company.

This will fund a national publicity campaign to explain to the public and government the reasons for the postal workers dissatisfaction.

The majority of the public are ignorant of the fact that our national postal service is being run down. A publicity campaign will force government to re-think its policies.
