Eddie van Halen was not the first guitarist to incorporate tapping into his music. There were several before him... even Ace from Kiss. However, Eddie van Halen took it somewhere no other musician had up to that point. And the tapping is not even the part that impresses me in this song; the licks he's doing prior to it are amazing, and require a lot of skill.
We can all talk about how easy this is to play in 2008, but, this song was released in 1978. Eddie's guitar playing inspired an entire decade of ridiculous guitar soloing- featuring tapping and divebombs- things that were not a part of guitar solos prior to Eruption. Yeah, it's easy to say that, 30 years later, someone can play a solo on guitar that might be more challenging than this, but the real question is: would it exist if Eddie hadn't set the precedent in 1978? I think not.

Muisc doesn`t consist of just fast playing, shredding and etc. you should be able to to put the massage in your playing, singing, or whatever. and Eddie totally lacks that. Eddie van Halen was not the first guitarist to incorporate tapping into his music. There were several before him... even Ace from Kiss. However, Eddie van Halen took it somewhere no other musician had up to that point. And the tapping is not even the part that impresses me in this song; the licks he's doing prior to it are amazing, and require a lot of skill.

We can all talk about how easy this is to play in 2008, but, this song was released in 1978. Eddie's guitar playing inspired an entire decade of ridiculous guitar soloing- featuring tapping and divebombs- things that were not a part of guitar solos prior to Eruption. Yeah, it's easy to say that, 30 years later, someone can play a solo on guitar that might be more challenging than this, but the real question is: would it exist if Eddie hadn't set the precedent in 1978? I think not.

uhm, this solo is easier than some of the Avenged Sevenfold solo's I've learned. And the tapping, especially in this solo.. is beyond easy.. you obviously don't play guitar either, and considering your user is guitarhero, I bet the closest thing you've touched to a guitar is RockBand or something..
