Re:VirDIS VS2480 users. Product is called VirDIS (Virtual DISK Image Server) by Advanced Storage Concepts, Inc. Convert VS2480 (.HDD) files/projects into .WAV files from within the PC too! You can master (CD-R Master) to the PC Hard Drive and listen to it back without burning a physical CD-R DISC + more! You can store VS2480 files to a thumb drive if you like, move VS2480 files around your PC just like a word document or .JPG. Search internet using VirDIS and virtualscsi and you'll find it!
I have had my VS2480 since since 2004/5 and use it exclusively for recording and it has never let me down whether at home or on the road.I have recorded a fair few CD's with the Roland it is easy to learn.. Use the mouse and VGA monitor for ease of use AUTOMIX IS AWESOME
yeah your wise to stick with an interface however this machine is awsome for mobile it sets up super fast with lots of user interface(knobs) so it wastes little time +i find this to be way more stable,no shut downs no freeze ups...
i own a vs2480cd. i use it on the road and i use it in my studio to cut drums and hammond b3. i then dump to pro tools. i have cut 3 records with this machine. God bless roland!
This is a great machine if you can get your hands on it! easy to use with vga and mouse option. Needs to step up fx cards and minor things to get you threw it faster! But straight to the point!!!! OVERALL GOOD MACHINE
im 17, and I don't think this is TOO complicated...but I also had to take a whole summer last year to learn how to use most features...this + my korg triton = greatest items besides pussy and weed in my life
these products WERE about 3500 plus ta and another grand for the dvd...after everything, it could run you around 5-6 grand which IMHO is silly when the akai dps24 puts this mtr to shame on many MANY levels!!! read about that...
hey , if you are happy with the vs then all the power to you, i dont deny how amazing that machine is, but when we talk dps24 we talk industry standard, or so should be...the dps24 (esp for the price) was/is in class of its own bar none...it is military and ingenious in every way...but enjoy tha
I have 2 in sync for 48 tracks and will NEVER go back to my computer....stable as a rock and adding the vga screen is killer....everything has a learning curve, and this is worth the time......
I've been using them since they been out and their some workhorses! Been to the shop a couple times, but what hasent? can someone one youtube upload the whole video please?
GOD how I wish I would have bought a good PC/ sound card, and programs instead of my Roland unit! You need a freakin degree to work this thing! Now I have one month to make a decent full length CD for a job. I dont know how the effects routing works....Bus this, prefade that Inserts, etc. wtf? Can I record in stereo onto one track? That WACKY manual makes it sound like you can, but I cant figure it out. There is nowhere online to train with this stuff. I HATE IT! (Nice venting here though :-)
Damn, I love my 2480cd. I use it ALL the time. It takes no time away from my guitar playing and my band loves it! We record EVERY session and if we like it we keep it and polish it up later. If we find no reason to keep it I just hit delete.I use the 2480 as our PA in the jam room and bought it on Ebay for about 8 bills....I love the automix features and the routing and on and on..........
The market for high end digi studios seems to have dissappeared now it seems that now evey man and his dog has a pc with recording software. These machines were seriously expensive too , my vs1680 plus effects card was £2500 in 98! Where roland went wrong was the badly written and difficult to understand manuals.
As far as the learning curve, learn it using an external monitor/mouse set-up rather than the "on-board" monitor. The mouse makes it very intuitive and user friendly, plus you get great color and easy to read display. Piece of cake recording live this way!
It's really to bad they don't make these anymore. I use mine with Sonar and a RPC card linked to my VS2480. I virtually have unlimited tracks in real time. Plus when you master in the VS2480 it will warm up all your sounds a bit. It would be hard for me to go back to just mastering from a computer based DAW alone. Yea its big & heavy, about 2ft X 2ft. But it truly is like having a million dollar studio on a desk.
Musicians are not engineers, use one of those things take same time to learn a new instrument and the size is half of your desk.
The best of the best quick and easy with pro finish and quality is software visual mastering like cubase, sonar, samplitude, etc and also keep hundreds maybe thousands of dollars on you pocket.
Why aren't any of these high end multitrack recorders sold anymore? They are all discontinued. I cannot find one company that still makes a high end MTR!!!
can any one tell me if theres a pitch or Auto-Tune program i can buy for the 2480.
i need it for vocals

I've had one of these for two years and love it!
Endless possibilities! This thing really shines in the mastering section. The FX could be better, but you can patch in your own, or buy upgrade cards.
