  • From a good Columbo episode. Cash did a great job acting as well.

  • Spoiler: ugly, evil woman behind is going to die in a fire.

  • pure soul. excellent

  • He hated his wife in this one

  • I like David Crowder's better because it is faster. This is good anyways. RIP Johnny

  • I love his dance moves :D

  • Those clappers were off

  • rest in peace

  • I'll go in jail, I'll go in jail, no more wife, no more mistress, now I'm so happy, no more women in sight, praise Columbo, I'll go to jail.

  • Just finished this episode. One of my favorites ever. This song stays in my head for days. Two great performers working together(Cash and Falk). What a treat!

  • I bet old one-eyed Falk is still running around in the underworld after the notorious Man in Black! How many times have ITV repeated Swansong? Many ... and every time I clap along with ol' Johhny Boy and I fancy the young blonde hotties too! Phew ... I'm a convert man!

  • magnifique, j'aime bien ce chanteur, sa chanson et l'épisode de Columbo.

  • Ok so that was an ironic posture I hope... great johnny cash but where is Columbo ?!

  • It was so sad in this one when Columbo finally caught his man. You really feel for Cash's character.

  • praise the lord i ever saw the light. god lives and his son is real. through all the tears and fears. jesus rose from the dead.

  • Comment removed

  • columbo has seen the light

    rip

  • This cracks me up. Every time. Probably because I am simple.

  • 4 dislikes = 4 people went to prison after being asked "just one more question" by a man in a dirty mac.

  • I wonder if JC had control over the background vocals/actors?

  • Four people haven't seen the light.

  • Rest in peace mr. Falk :(

  • @ksufler Rest In Peace Mr. Cash!!!

  • @ksufler yea :( very bad :(((

  • Oh yeah, now I remember this episode. Dang, WHY aren't any of the tv channels showing reruns of Columbo? 800 channels and nothing decent to watch. Networks, just start reshowing the good sitcoms from the 70's and 80's and you will have all the ratings you can handle.

  • @Bombeni

I live in canada and i can watch about 3 episodes of Columbo a week on a channel dedicated to older movies

  • Thanx for this tune friend:)

  • From this youtube video, either the song was lip-synched or there is something wrong with the video. I don't remember noticing the lip-synching when I watched the original Colombo episode on tv, or later on dvd. I love this version of "I Saw the Light" so much that I grabbed the audio off of a vhs tape many, many years ago to digitize, and tried to find it elsewhere, but could only find a vinyl version of him live with Jerry Lee Lewis, which is not as good as the Colombo version.

  • As far as I know, this version of the song was not for sale to the public. According to one source, the studio take of this version was made for the film and auctioned on eBay years later along with other paraphernalia that was used for this episode. I am not sure if it was sold, but when I asked the seller, the recording was valued at about $6,000.

  • I like both columbo and cash!

  • @nettieheartful

    iI LIKE BOTH

  • i remember the night i watched this and yes it was maybe best columbo filmed. i am very much a jc fan

  • watchin the pisode as we speak on netflix...one of the best tv shows of all time...oh sir, Just one more thing"...

  • Die beste Columbo Folge überhaupt..

  • I miss Columbo and Johnny

  • If Johnny hadn't went back to get the parachute he would have gotten away with it .

  • all good

  • Yup, that's Ida Lupino. This might be my all-time favorite Columbo (and I have MANY favorites!). From Ruth Gordon to Janet Leigh to Donald Pleasence, Vera Miles, Leonard Nimoy, Martin Sheen, Rip Torn, Ray Milland, Martin Landau, Sal Mineo -- who WASN'T in a Columbo episode?! LOL But this one -- I will always watch this one again. I don't care if acting wasn't Cash's forte; this was so-o-o-o good.

  • @connies419

This was my favorite episode too.

  • Is that Ida Lupino?

  • Massive Johnny Cash fan

    but this is cringeworthy

  • Very good video.

  • A shame that this song isn't on an album

  • @AndreHiltre . Man. How are you going to say all that hateful stuff after watching Johnny Cash sing that? It is amazing that you miss the point of the whole song. It is you my friend that are trying to poison minds. R.I.P. Johnny Cash. I get your message sir!

  • @MrChuckrice1 Geuss he got his username scrambled on purpose?!? Called me a retard after some well ment info, see now it,s this person. Shame to see someone like this on Columbo video,.It,s the opposite of what Columbo/Falk and Cash stand for

  • I remember seeing this episode when it first aired. I did not like the Idea that he played a killer in the show but maybe he wanted a little twist for a change from the daily norm.

  • Tommy! This coffee is awful.....still, it's better than nothing.

  • Great scene from one of my favorite Columbo Episodes.

  • If you're missing church this morning, here you go...The Man in Black & Columbo ッ

Johnny's "wife" (the redhead), "saw the light" when he killed her after the concert.

  • I miss Columbo! It is sad...

  • Written and composed by the greatest of them all....HANK WILLIAMS SR.

  • How I love that song...in a "Columbo" serial, how such a chance!...I adore that character!...A song that's been played by JERZY MAK too...in french "Le jour est là"...I admire another singer too whose name is MO'SEAN..His song's "Give you my soul" and his voice's just a blessing!...I just can't wait 'bout his next L.P. 'cos I don't think I'll be deceived..an' that Supersinger will climb up many, many mountains from now on..Thanks YOUTUBE very much 4 all those marvelous finds...

  • what a mess i am the biggest fan of all things country and a big fan of johnnys but what is with the dancing he is singing the song wrong 1:15 to 1:33 and the dance after come on and what is wrong with that jaffer's dancing at 0:56 and 1:37 the worst and upsetting song from johnny did not like at all

  • I personally felt so sorry for this character! Unlike most others, he was not evil, he pursuing another's fortune, he was just pushed to what he did.

  • des ess clssica cmpored tuu DC*B.

  • What's with the arm movement?

  • Hehe, þarna er Cash bara ""sleazy" gospel/kántrý söngvari í gömlum Columbo-þætti. (Enda nær Columbo honum í lokin).

  • I just saw this a few days ago on Danish TV. I love both Columbo & Cash, but I had no idea this existed! The plot was maybe not so good, but who cares, this episode was Absolutely F. Brilliant! :)

  • I'm enjoying this great Episode right now!!! Can it get any better, Johnny Cash in a Colombo episode?

  • he is still the best

  • Great episode, great voice, great acting.

    J. Cash and P.Falk two legends

  • this move they make in the refrain... so cool xD i saw the light bäm

  • Ah, the summer is here. When the summer vacation comes i always watches colombo at night, it's the best tv show ever created IMO!!!!!!!!

And Peter Falk is the best!!!!!!!!

  • PLEASE DONT READ THIS. YOU WILL GET KISSED ON THE NEAREST POSSIBLE FRIDAY BY THE LOVE OF YOUR LIFE. TOMORROW WILL BE THE BEST DAY OF YOUR LIFE. HOWEVER IF YOU DONT POST THIS COMMENT something bad will happen. NOW UV STARTED READIN DIS DUNT STOP THIS IS SO SCARY. SEND THIS TO 5 VIDEOS IN 143 MINUTES WHEN UR DONE PRESS F6 AND UR CRUSHES NAME WILL APPEAR ON THE SCREEN IN BIG LETTERS. THIS IS SO SCARY CAUSE IT ACTUALLY WORKS THIS ACTUALLY WORKS

  • Johnny Cash also starred in a made-for-TV movie called "Murder In Coweta County" based on a true story. He played a sheriff who got to send, of all people, Andy Griffith to the electric chair!

Griffith played a real bastard, and Cash was excellent. Shame he didn't do more acting, he was a natural. Always his own man, Johnny is irreplaceable.

  • What's with the arm swinging?

  • i agree...one of my five preferred Columbo episode...and...from this i began to appreciate the great Johhny Cash...as the episodes with Donald Pleasance i'm wished he would not have been imprisoned...

  • This was one of the few I actually wanted to help the killer get away with the murder. In this movie Tommy's wife needed killing.

  • my arse

  • after Smac id need Help

  • I have to echo the other comments about the ending of this episode. Beyond magnificent. The Columbo series was almost too good for TV. RIP Johnny!

  • This album is on Amazon

  • Great!!!

  • Thank you for this beautiful old gospel favorite .I did see the light and am blessed to have God in my life everyday.

I don't know what I would have done without Him all the years. He has always been my Lighthouse my refuge from lifes storms and I know I don't ever wanna be without Him by my side. Thanks Again God Bless and Take Care

  • Swan Song

  • One of my all-time favorite Columbo episodes!

Johnny Cash was a musical legend and genius and skillfully played the role of the sleazy gospel singer/evangelist to the max, LOL.

And I love Hank William for writing this! :)

  • @sbarr10

Also one of my favorite Columbo episodes! Believe it or not, this episode was my introduction to Johnny Cash. Also, one of the few episodes where I'm sympathetic to the killer.

  • @HiHoJose me too

  • @sbarr10 Ida Lupino is great in this episode, to bad she gets knocked off so early in the plot

  • @sbarr10 said skillfully played the role of the sleazy gospel singer/evangelist to the max, LOL. I think Johnny cash was a sincere Christian, in case you weren't aware.

  • A catchy tune

  • The final scene in this episode is so good ;Columbo proves the Cash character killed his wife-Cash asks Columbo if he's scared to be alone with a murderer-Columbo replies",Nah,you would've confessed eventually-Anybody who can sing like that can't be all bad."

  • Habs im tv gesehen ^^ Omg sau geil <3 5/5

  • Great feeling!

  • I wish so much I had the oppurtunity to see him live,... damn..., guess I missed the chance.. rest in peace johny, we wont forget you down here....

  • I saw him a few times, and met and talked to him once. I'd give left, just to have had a cheap camera with me!!!!

  • his relationship to his "wife" in this episode reminds me of Basil and Sybil in Fawlty Towers. Basil!

  • PIGMEAT -!!!

  • Did you notice, that our Lord and saviours name Jesus Christ was consequently left out in the altered text Johnny Cash sings?

Please compare to the original and think it over! Leaves a very bad smell...and spoils the whole thing....

  • man great song. I miss johnny and columbo

  • Johnny Cash also had good acting potential, its a pity that it wasnt recognized earlier

  • one of the best songs ever that jonny cash put out to bad he isn't still here

  • I love the ending of this episode after Columbo has captured Johnny Cashs character, Cash asks him "Arent you afraid to be alone with a killer?" and Columbo says "No, i had a feeling that sooner or later you would confess." Cash replies "I would have, It was getting to me." and Columbo then says "Listen, anyone who can sing beautifull music like that cant be all bad."

And then they drive away with the great song playing in the background, such a good episode of Columbo too.

  • It was a great episode.

  • You're right! I loved this episode too! It made me a really Columbo fan.

Oh yeah... I walked in darkness and clouds covered me...

  • riddick:I just wrote the exact same thing.Amazing how good writing stays in your memory;much better than some shit throwaway line on CSI

  • Amen Brother, great minds think alike.

  • prais the lord!!!! i'm 14 years old and i didn't know if i were religious but i know now i am!!!

  • go Johnny, go! Love this song, I'm not a religous man but this song rocks!

  • Did anyone ask you to reveal you whether you are religious or not

  • great song =)

  • raise your arms, rejoice..rock on!

  • Wonderful song.

  • Simply a wonderful song!

  • Compare Cash's version to Hank Williams' version and you decide which one you like. Both are wonderful beyond easy description.

  • lyrics..I have faith in the goodness of Jesus, for he has saved me my soul cries out hallelujah? whats the name of that song? Please help thanks

  • lisalisa, Hank Williams Senior wrote this in a moment of sobriety. Thought u might like to know that.

  • Why didn't he actually release this song? It's absolutely great!

  • I actually like this song. It"s very inspirational. Johnny Cash was a master country singer.

  • I never never knew this was a real song.

  • Great song. One of his best gospels.

    Cash as Cash can.

  • great song and best episode

  • If he would have left the parachute alone...........

  • LOL!!!! One of many great Columbo episodes!!!!

  • @digga2552 you got that right, I know Ive seen it at least 10 times, Johnny is not a bad actor, just perfect for the columbo genre.

  • It was one of few parts the murderer was so likeable I wanted to forgive his crime.-)

  • The elderly lady is the victim played by the wonderful Ida Lupino ..... this is my favorite episode...

  • hi, it's mine too! And even my Mom's :-)

  • This was the absolut top of the colombo serie.

"You cant be a bad man, singing so - so I remember he result of Columbo.

  • ist das lange her.

einer der beiden hauptdarsteller ist tod,

der andere hat alzheimer bzw demenz.

mein gott, wie schrecklich diese welt doch sein kann...

  • Great song and a great movie.

  • Yeah, the end was awesome!

    Columbo is the best!

  • The episode from Columbo was in tv yesterday( in germany) i love it !!

    great song!

  • The great thing about the ending of this episode of columbo is, that the luitenant is saying to "Tommy Brown" in the final scene someting like: "A man that can write such a song can't be bad at all". I'm always expecting Brown saying: "The song is by Hank Williams..."

Anyway a wonderful song. I wonder if the audience was really in the studio when he sang it.

  • Actually Columbo says

"Listen, any man that can sing like that can't be all bad."

He doesn't mention song writing, just the singing.

  • I agree with you. :D My favorite singer still is Martin L. Gore. His favorite singer is Johnny Cash as well. :D I adore both. :D

  • Johnny i love you!!!

  • Praise the Lord that i saw the light! actually i just finished this episode from the season 3 DVD and it is awesome, Columbo even says that anyone that can sing like this cannot be all bad.

Johnny Cash's character even says that he would have confessed to the murder that he committed because it was getting to him and he was a better man than that, what a class act all the way.
