Well, the problem wasn't that he wasn't interested exactly. It was that two different species together isn't socially accepted in the society they were in. Note that in the end he has a heart over his head when she drinks the fish juice thing. Basically, the moral was to give love a chance. ^_^
Still the cat wasn't interested from the begining only near the end that he seemed to give in and it just makes me feel like he was forced into it. I'm a kind of cold person so I don't really think about this kind of stuff but the cat really seemed like he didn't like her >_> honestly the morale as you say is a bit misleading
