Terra = Earth in this song. The French equivalent might be a popular French saying for leaving one's country but that is not what Tori Amos means in this song. She means Leaving the Earth (Presumably as in your spirit leaving Earth).

@purpleoliveoil I also love when she talks about Marianne. There was some interview where she said that she played Marianne through in one take and the performance you hear on Boys for Pele is the very first time she had ever played it--she wrote the lyrics right there in the studio then sat down and recorded it perfectly the first time. If I could be her for a day...

@MithraMusic Yeah I heard that about Marianne too. Thanks for the clarification though because I had heard it said like she improvised the whole thing entirely or something and as a song writer who plays the piano and sings too, I thought, "that's unlikely" but your explanation makes more sense. That's not to say it's not extremely impressive though.

@purpleoliveoil Have you ever seen her live? During her American Doll Posse tour she improvised two songs for us live without any pre-written lyrics or anything, she just made them up on the spot. One of them was this incredible thing about...well let me just link it lol. ?v=4hu8s36YgNU So it really wouldn't have surprised me if she really did just make Marianne up on the spot!
