nice axes buddy and great mixing, like yourself i have many, mostly customs and a few fenders epi,s, vantage accoustics, violins amati and stradivarius, keyboards and such. love to play when it hits me, never done any solos (self mixed), but someday will try it. keep it on the upload
WOW! Great job re-creating the chlangy guitar sound. And you NAIL the bass line (which is prob the best part of this song). As a bass player, I think I will use your version to learn the line because it comes out clearer than the original. Did you learn it by ear or did you have sheet music?
@Lamborghini652 - I currently have five Rics: three 12-strings (Black 330/12, Red 360/12, the smaller Red 660/12) a six string (Blue 360) and a base (Blue 4003).
That was lame ... like a carrot in front of gold. If education was the goal, the technology (lighting) failed, and it ended prematurely without a finale to validate its worth and prominent source.
No, but it turns out there's this thing called a "job" where they pay you for doing something called "work", so you can buy stuff for yourself. Check it out, it could change your life!
Good one mate. screw them. Why be so ascerbic? Jealousy mate. Im a huge Smiths fan, and also a fan of yours now it seems, as i like watchin in detail how my favorite tracks are played on the guitar. I really want to learn but cant afford just yet. Top stuff. I'd like to hear you do The Headmaster Ritual also.
It's a relatively easy tune on bass. But it's fun. I was thinking of making a vid of myself playing it on my Ric coz it's fun!!
The song basically has 3 parts: it repeats one riff a lot, then it has a "break" which is easy as heck (a move from G# to C when there are no vocals), and then there's the intro/outro.
Rourke uses a few accidental notes which I REALLY like though, in this case he plays A, even though the song is in C minor and A is the 3rd major he plays it as an accident. Very cool.
This is superb, I've taken to listening to this as often as possible & providing my own vocals! ;-) Liking Danielearwickers other stuff too, man is a talent!!
johnny marr used sometimes up to 12 tracks on a single proposition for a song which he would post coyly through the letterbox of his songster in the anticipation of a response.
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
what i dont understand is why a single song has to use so many guitars at once... yet when you see the smiths videos you only see johnny marr and the basist?
In a 1990 guitar player magazine interview Johnny says he dropped a knife on the strings of a telecaster to make the chords in the intro to this song and in This Charming Man. I SEE NO KNIFE DANNY!
I heard that also from the 1990 guitar player magazine interview. At first I thought it was a joke but apparently he did drop a knife on a telecaster for the intro chords of this song and This Charming Man
Probably slapped the strings with the knife instead of picking them - like bass player sometimes does with those drumstick looking things. Come to think of it I can guess which part he does that on in this intro. Explains why I can never get that awesome sound for the Charming Man intro!
Meu... VALEU THE SMITHS!
I think he used the knife technique in This Charming Man too. Another important part of the sound at the end of 'Stop Me' (that I missed) is that great feedback sound from the last note of the "solo" riff that keeps ringing out. Also reminiscent of The Queen Is Dead title track.
fun fact, the first chord, marr put the guitar on the floor and dropped a knife from above on it, to get that "woiiiin" sound that u hear on the studio version. (ofc, the knife didnt land with the edge on the guitar)
MORE COWBELL! Haha jokes, unbelieveable mate! I'm a huge Smiths fan and you do us all justice with you're impressive cover versions :D give me one of your Rickenbackers haha that's a great collection of guitars you have there =)
Love the way you roll of the A chord to get that weird studio bit (up down all around!) - I'd never have thought of that. I also replace the d chord by rolling up the neck with the c shape and dropping the first finger - just for colour.
very good !!! the smiths are my favorite band ever , i also watched your half a person version, you're good ! i really loved your black telecaster deluxe , i have a regular telecaster custom sunburst.
Great stuff, The Smiths are virtually non existant when it come to accurate tab, not surprising really. The one i have trouble with is Cemetery Gates. Johnny Marr Says its in open G tuning Bm,G Change, but i cant get anywhere near the right sound, any help??
gee whiz, aren't you just such a pro with golden ears... "only the Les Pauls sound a bit too thin"... wow, pitiful child... please just go to sleep for a few weeks and maybe when you wake you'll appreciate the genius of danielearwicker.
Johnny Marr once said, he throwd knifes with a metal handle on his guitar, to get the "big doings effect" at the start of "Stop me..", so why you didn´t do that? ;-)
I use digital audio recording. The analogue signal (either direct from electric guitar's pick-up or from a mic, makes no difference) is digitised in the same way as the sound on a CD, so the detailed shape of the wave form is captured in numbers. To play the sound back, the computer converts the numbers back into a smooth analogue waveform. From the musician's perspective it's no different from using a tape recorder. MIDI is different, a lot simpler. It's more like traditional sheet music.
